Funny story - Somehow the X-Men 143 reference made it through again in the pilot that went out to millions of people. We asked them to change it, per the requests on this board and you know, common sense. But it refuses to die. Maybe Hiro knows something we don't.. Our apologies to the faithful, and of course, to the poor miss K.P. who is destined to having comic newbies looking not the briliant "Days of Future Past", but that weird Christmas Book. Guess what just came down the Chimney? I hope it's a No-Prize.

(Tangent: I read that "Demon" is John Byrne's last issue; is he Craig's dad or some relative?) * Does that imply that someone can make people see what's not there? There was a screenshot at the end of previews where HRG looked like he changed his appearance to look like D.L., like it was a hallucination or someone pulled an "Odo". Can someone mess with people's minds so that they see illusions, or in other words, is someone able to mess with people's imaginations? That would be wild, like psy-ops or something (Dark Angel reference)! I found a bigger pic of X-men #143 to help for comparison (click for larger image): *Nevermind- Found an answer about the Byrnes: QUOTE Mr. Byrne was kind enough to let me do this interview for the Krypton Club newsletter. Before anyone charges "nepotism," I can promise you that Craig Byrne and John Byrne are not related (we both just have really cool names!).

QUOTE (CraigB @ Sep 26 2006, 06:45 PM) You know, John Byrne was the first cool interview I ever did. That is so cool! You've been helping out people by providing info for at least 11 years! Good stuff! QUOTE (9thDoctor @ Sep 26 2006, 06:45 PM) I'm embarrassed that I never caught the X-Men #143 mistake either! I kept thinking "So cool! They referenced Days of Future Past!" Oops. But it appears with both the alien on the #143 cover and the comments by Joe that the reference was intentional, too! With such an astute group of writers, and the fact that everything's connected, it now doesn't seem likely to be a typo! I'd like to speculate that HRG does have some "psy-ops" abilities to allow people to see what he wants them to see, and further speculate that Isaac can not only "paint the future", but he can also paint what others may see or want to see or think they see. So Isaac painted Peter's dream of flying, and I think Hiro is pictured with "Uluru" because that is an image or vision that HRG is making Hiro see. That's the first draft of what I think, but I may have to edit it later...

I've had seen the preair and i thought it was great back then, but man the final pilot was AWESOME. I was like "OMG this show is going to be so good", the music was just perfect, and the scene at the end was so damn good

Wow! The pilot blew me away. This is the kind of show, in the super hero genre, that I have been waiting for. It is subtle, complex (raising hundreds of questions I MUST know the answer to) and has so many fascinating characters with with unique personalities and motivations. The movie "Unbreakable was the closest thing to this I have seen, but Heroes is "Unbreakable" to the tenth power and without the lumbering, dark broodiness.

QUOTE (Aron Coleite @ Aug 13 2006, 01:02 AM) We're so glad that you're all liking the show. And yes, X-men #143 is indeed the wrong issue. I wish we could say that we did that intentionally to test the true fans, but really... it was just a goof. We can admit when we've done wrong.
It will be fixed by the time it hits the air. #141
-coleite Except, it wasn't. But I enjoyed it anyway.

I asked Tim Sale if Uluru's head was drawn to look like the alien on the cover of x-men #143, and this was the answer: QUOTE (Tim Sale @ Sep. 26 2006,20:54) Uluru is most definitely NOT based on any X-Men reference, #143 or otherwise. It's much more a combo of Kirby and Mignola and having to come up with something REALLY fast...
...And I have zero knowledge of plotlines to come, folks, nor do I want to know. I want to have fun watching like everyone else, and I'm not really into spot-the-details stuff, though I know the producers are counting on the rest of y'all to be.

I have been hearing about Heroes all summer. I never knew there was a pilot episode broadcast back in July. I just saw the premier episode rebroadcast on Sci Fi last night and again off of the Heroes NBC site. Definitly an AWESOME show.
Since it is dual broadcast, on both NBC on Mondays and SciFi on Fridays I'll very likely be watching both. In my mnd (And likely ONLY in my mind. lol) Heroes and EurEka are perhaps the two best speculative fiction tv dramas on the air right now. Well, them and Smallville.
Ok, I have just pegged myself as a Sci Fi Comic book Nut. hehehe
Two things I have to ask though.
1) Did anyone else catch the "Matrix" reference by Mr. Bennet in Mohindur Suresh's Cab
"...I bet Suresh is a common name where you come from ... Like Mr. Smith or Mr. Anderson."
And 2) Am I the ONLY person in this thread who has never seen a single episode of Lost?

I never could get into The Matrix, so I wouldn't know. As for the second question, you are not the only person who hasn't seen a single episode of Lost. I've never watched it, either. However, I wouldn't mind renting the pilot just to see Greg Grunberg as the pilot...who sadly gets killed off within five minutes.

"...I bet Suresh is a common name where you come from ... Like Mr. Smith or Mr. Anderson." I didn't catch it sadly, but a few other people did. Here -> and Here -> Both of these in the same thread back-to-back. They are the first 2 posts in a thread called SF/fantasy/fannish references which is in the same sub-forum as this thread. Both of those posts are dated Sep 27, 2006 while your post is dated Sep 30, 2006, so they didn't steal your idea. Anyway, this post is just for clarification and in answer to the "Did anyone else catch" question. I missed it myself but when I read those posts I have referenced, I caught it the second time on Sci-Fi. Edit: The Matrix reference has also been mentioned Here and Here in another thread titled Cab ride with Mohinder in this same sub-forum also dated Sep 27, 2006

Never seen Lost either... if only I had tivo then... how different my television viewing life might have turned out... ha ha!
As for the references to the Matrix... I've been thinking about that... first - he doesn't say "Like Mr. Smith, or Mr. Anderson" he says "I bet Suresh is a common name where you come from, like Smith, or Anderson." And really, are we all reading too much into that? I mean - if we are talking common, generic, US names, aren't Smith and Anderson really two of the most obvious choice... the only other one I think they could have used would be Jones. So really, is it just coincidence?
