Ok... now I've been thinking about this for atleast two days and I can't think of any explanation. The little girl that Matt found under the stairs. How did she get there?

You see if Sylar surprised the dad and froze him or whatever then he would be in the house and the little girl would have had no time to run under and have two articles of furniture moved in front of the door. Did Sylar put her in there? Or maybe Sylar attacked first and then took the brains and went outside or something then the daughter and mom came in and saw dad but couldn't run because Sylar was there or something else. And so the wife hide the girl in there to be safe and then maybe fought Sylar or who ever and lost. Any opinions on this?
The Better Bard
I thought it was a play room or something. I mean it looked like it had some wallpaper and a little table. As for the stuff in front of the door, maybe Sylar stood on them as he pinned the women to the stairway and then moved them over to the right when he was done.
Last time I saw the episode was Monday so I might be remebering it wrong but that's what I had guessed.

I figured the family knew Sylar was coming and they hid their daughter under the stairs. Maybe they didn't have time to run away (or maybe they didn't want to run away?).
Super DJ
I agree. It makes sense that if the girls parents sensed some type of danger in the situation with Sylar that they HID her before they confronted him...or HE attacked them, we are still unclear as to what exactly happened there.

OR...perhaps Sylar hid her there HIMSELF?

as a way of drawing the cop Matt's powers into attention...?

details are still sketchy as to WHY Sylar even attacked these people let alone let the girl live, but Im sure this will be cleared up at some point.

It is entirely possible that the girl was already under the stairs when Sylar showed up. Perhaps the family was fully aware that Sylar was after them and couldn't chance him finding her. So, they let her remain hidden under the stairs and nothing Sylar did would get the parents (mom) to reveal her location.

But what about that frozen head thing? Freeze em and pop off the cap for some delicious frozen brain! Yum! ohmy.gif
Dill0n
how could the family have known sylar was coming, when the father was still in the midst of eating a bowl of cereal? it didn't seem like he was in panic-oh-my-gawd-hide-our-daughter mode.

laugh.gif Hoped someone would remember that.

I think the dad was eating his breakfast and the little girl was playing in her little space under the stairs, then Sylar came in and the little girl became scared and became quiet so he wouldn't know she was there. He then frezes the dad and takes his brain as the mother coes down the stairs for something in aother part of the house. She sees Sylar and locks er daughter in the closet to save her, but this gets Sylar's attention and he grabs a drawer of knives from the kitchen and pins her to the stairs. That's what I think happened.

the parents could have been heroes themselves [it seems sylar only attacks fellow "heroes"]

their child could have also been a hero..which is why they hid her.

maybe.

Yeah, Sylar was the only person who could have barricaded the girl in her secret playroom.
I'm thinking the girl was already in the playroom when Sylar killed her father. Her mother came out, screamed when she saw what had happened, and Sylar used his powers to staple her to the wall. But then the blood lust was abating when he discovered the girl. There was no point in killing her, so he ordered her back into her playroom and then he moved the table in front of it.

I agree that the girl's plight would make an interesting test for any supers who might wander into the crime scene. That means Sylar has some way of monitoring the results of his test. Hmm..

Meanwhile, the Fed played by Clea DuVal-- she knows about supers! She purposefully questioned the policeman with a thought. When he answered her, she reacted instinctively and arrested him. Two possible motivations-- the Feds know about superpowers and want to get a live subject. Two-- the Feds know Sylar is targeting supers and she's arresting him for his own safety.

I don't think Sylar would have left the girl alive, unless he just can't bear to kill children. The girl most likely has powers herself, because her parents (at least the dad) had powers and we know it's genetic.
NobleKnight
Well so far I don't think the parents could have done it. Unless the mother was begging for her life and the little girl could hear it. Because she kept on thinking "Please don't hurt me" so she must have seen what happened. It's just really confusing... and what if the creators missed that and it becomes a PLOTHOLE! OH JEEZ NO! I think that would kill us...

I jsut got the re-watching the last episoide and I noticed the same thing, because if you notice when Matt answers the question just before she arrest she says "Then hear this one"

If the mother had telekinesis she could have moved the lamp in front of the door. As far as I could see the door could have been closed from the inside, then put a lamp in front and you are done.
I get the impression that mom had telekinesis from this whole setup.

But then again, her brain wasn't taken (was it?) which seems to suggest that she had no powers.

I think there had to be some noise outside for the girl to realise that something bad happens to her parents. She was probably told that she's in danger, anyway.
splinteredmind
Ok if the girl was hid by Sylar then why would she be thinking "please don't hurt me" duh. Yup i allways think unhappy thoughts when the bad killer spares me and hides me in the secret closet.
Could it be that they need a reason to show off his power ? could just be me.
Thank you for your time

Captain Obvious.

The Father was hit frist for obvious resons. From that scene and the last scene of the show you can tell that Sylar is targeting heroes. Taking the brain of the heroes has got to do with trying to figure out how these heroes are able to control their powers. The girl being the offspring of a hero is a prime target for anyone hunting down heroes. I think becuse of the mothers placement in the house that she was the one that move the table in front of the hidden room. Sylar most likely took his time killing her to try and get her to tell him where the girl was. Her brian was not taken telling me that she was not a hero or if she was Slyer did not know of that fact.
Darth Adogg
Ohhh.. nice.

So he tortured the mom to give up the girl ... hence the large number of knives... Slowly he pplaces them in one by one asking questions about the daughter
Abraxas
Oh, those were not just knives...it was everything sharp, really. I saw a knife and a scissor and some other stuff, it went too fast. But it was different sorts of sharp, pointy stuff. He really had his fun with her...
AznPride
The thing about the Feds knowing about the "heroes". Like I'm telling you people, the government behind it all! It's like Weapon X all over again. Except they're snatching "heroes" left and right and then they'll experiment on them. I think Sylar managed to run away (a la Wolverine) and is now terrorizing the world. Or they're using Sylar to find other "heroes" (Maybe Sylar has this auxilary power of tracking "heroes").
Abraxas
Another government conspiracy...I have hopes it's not that. But I'm sure there's corruption somewhere.
Constantinople
I'm gonna go for the amazingly mundane and say that she ran away. The space under the stairs was the closest place to hide, since it looks like Sylar attacked quickly, freezing the unsuspecting guy while he was happily munching on his breakfast, and then pins the other person to the stairway.
Sylar either had a reason to leave the little girl, didn't notice the little girl or didn't care about the little girl. Sylar doesn't really seem to be either the sharpest tool in the shed or perhaps he's the sandwiches, drinks, food hamper and a whole colony of ants short of a picnic.

If Sylar only attacks those with powers, perhaps his power is that he gains other "heroes'" powers by eating their brain. Perhaps he also gains all their knowledge, so by eating Suresh's Father's brain, he gain a lot of knowledge on how to find other "heroes" in the first place. From there on, he consumed the brain of someone how can make ice and stuff (Like Marvel's "Iceman" mutant) in order to freeze the guy we've seen.

Or I could be reading to much into this.
DigitalSpeed
I THINK THE GIRL MAY NOW KNOW WHO SYLAR IS... OR SHE HEARD HIS VOICE. I DON'T KNOW IF SHE HAS ANY POWERS BUT IT MAKES ME WONDER WHATS TO COME ON THIS ISSUE. I CAN'T WAIT TILL TONIGHT!
Constantinople
...

Oh-kay...

Even though Sylar's voice has already been heard and is recorded, could the police officer extract that information from her mind?

I'm wondering if we could find a cast list, somewhere. The IMDB says nothing of the little girl, although it has listed a character who is only seen for two episodes.

I don't think she'll be written in as anyone important, except the first person to be "saved" by one of the "heroes".
