Careful Cyc, some people might get offended (though I doubt if a moderator is watching, there is a chance of getting reported and booted)
I think that Claire is only dead if every cell dies completely while her power is inhibited...

That was my basic assumption. Her injury was obviously specific, it is possible it was just stopping her brain from sending signals to the rest of her body to keep working. It could have been a limited brain stem injury.

i guess claire is able to die if her brain is injured. it wasnt until the branch was taken out she came back to life. is it safe to assume her brain healed up and that is why she was brought baack?

i think it was a hint that heroes with regeneration need their brain to regenerate

I'm guessing that the core of Claire's powers lie in her brain matter and not in her cellular structure as a whole (i.e. body). It doesn't seem to be an autonomic response, like breathing. It has to be a conscious effort. With a brain injury she cannot regenerate unless and until the physical source of that injury has been removed from the equation.

well her rib cage didn't heal in the first episode untill the protrusion was corrected ie- bone set back into place and not breaching the skin. with the twig remaining in her head her body was not able to heal it.

Eh, that's a good thought. I thought it had something to do with her central nervous system being blocked off... D'oh!

Agree about the clean up, there are a lot of similar threads out there, especially the Sylar's ones
And yeah...the brain is the key, maybe that's why someone are
stealing them

Who ARE you, how are you a genius, and do you write comics?

Well naturally the heroes need their brains for their bodies to function including their powers. Thats probably why sylar is taking brains from the people he kills. Could he be like rogue in xmen except he needs their brains to absorb their powers?

At some point in this espisode the fbi chick mentions that all of her suspected Sylar killing had some form of neck and brain injury, and that others did not. With that knowledge one would assume that he is hunting the powered ones and knows that the body cant obey the brain if they are not conected. so the branch was stopping the brain from conecting with the rest of the body to heal its self. Her heart stopped as fast as the branch went in her head so that would keep her dead.

I am just a guy who knows things. I WISH I could write comic books for a living! But thanks, you should register so that you are a more corporeal part of the board.
Back to the topic at hand. I will find an appropriate thread to discuss Sylar's brainsnatching in. If anyone wants my personal opinion here, we can do that too, just ask.

i'm sorry, i thought this was really funny.

I do agree about the brain. I'm interested to find out who was performing the autopsy. i think it's gotta be someone with knowledge of Claire's powers. she woke up and started coughing immediately after the branch came out. whoever was in that room, must have still been in the room when she was revived. someone connected to Mr. Bennet, and the people he works for?

Well, with most characters powers, it can be more of a mental thing than physical. For instance Claire.
Even though it may seem physical, as ShowbizPRgirl stated, it could be a sub-conscious effort on her part that makes her heal, and her pain receptors in her brain are not there, in turn, taking away all forms of pain.
As for the other characters... well, I could explain some, but this isn't the right topic!

I think the only reason she was "dead" was because the stick was directly embedded in her spinal cord and cerebral cortex. Since that part of the brain is what controls autonomous actions (like breathing and heart rate) she appeared dead. She also has been shown to be unable to heal if there is something impeding that healing (like parts out of place, or a big stick in the way).
