Future Hiro's katana is in fact, not a katana at all. Look at the handle, that is definately too long for a hand and a half (traditional katana). And thus, I present to you: Daikatana. Now, if you all remember, remember waaaaaayyyy back in the year 1997 or so, a game came out for the PC (Later on, N64 and Gameboy Colour), a game called Daikatana. The basis of this game was that there was a two handed sword called the daikatana, which had the mystical power to travel through time and space. Basically, the gist of it is that the bad guy owns the sword, travels back in time and does some bad stuff to make himself rich and powerful, and your main character gets that sword himself. Problem is, the bad guy has it too, there are two existing, and you have to travel through time and fight and whatnot.

Anyways, for those of us who have played it, do you remember the name of the main character? Yes, that's right... Hiro. A time traveling hero named Hiro with a Daikatana. Booya! Woo, go nerds! And by nerds, I am referring to at least myself, and Hiro Nakamura, who probably knew of the humour to what he was doing, and perhaps anyone else out there who thought of this as well.

I bet America wasn't expecting this many geeks cuz Heroes is number one and will stay so as long as the writers keep us satisfied and questioning

I'm sure they'll dump a lot of nods to the "Geek" pop culture (should be called Obscure Culture really. tongue.gif ).
Dill0n
gives added depth to HRG's comment to claire about dating the nerds, huh?

I'm more surprised someone actually played DaiKatana.

If that is true, I guess there is no denying it.
But thankfully, the sword is not the reason for Hiro's powers.

I heard Romero's Daikatana was years in making, then ended up being a really bad game. DangardAce sure seems to think that. biggrin.gif

I'm in awe of your geekdom. I was just thinking that from the size of the hilt and the fact that it was straped across his back, that it was a ninja-to not a katana. Who knows if we will ever get a shot of the blade to see what it see for sure.

No kidding. Released well after its deadline, massively overbudget, and didn't nearly live up to half the hype.

Aaahhh the grand fall of John Romero.

That's intriguing, to be sure, but it seems to me that Future Hiro owes more to Hiro Protagonist from the book Snow Crash. It's certainly the kind of thing Hiro Nakamura would read.

Here's a Wikipedia entry, for those who aren't familiar with the book. I highly recommend reading it...it's a ripping great yarn.
