Full Version: Niki: Most Boring New Female Character

I disagree. But like all of the characters in the show.
Tynesha
I kinda agree, but after her performance in episode 4, I want to give her the chance to be great.

I agree that the storyline for Niki hasn't been what I hoped, but I disagree about the Micah charactor. As much as Niki's line is kind of disinteresting to me, I find myself wondering more about Micah than about Niki. Especially since he's so smart and perseptive, and it's a great actor who plays him. So there's that.

MOST BORING NEW FEMALE CHARACTER: Niki Sanders (Ali Larter) on "Heroes" (NBC). What's the deal with Larter's single-mom/stripper character? Thanks to a meandering plot and Larter's colorless performance, it's hard to care.

I agree 100%! The character of her son is almost as bad. I hope the creative people on the show read this article and drop this character from the show. This character/actor is the weak link in a great show.

I think her character is tolerable but why the hell does she always have her mouth open showing her overbite all of the time? Kind of annoying to me.

I am so shocked! I think there are a lot of people that watch the show just for Niki or at least started watching the show because of her. her character is intriguing and still somewhat mysterious.
Surreal
Really?...I love Niki she's my favourite and I think she makes the show so much more interesting tongue.gif
Ego
I'm fairly indifferent towards Niki, but her family (as in Micah and D.L.) are beginning to facinate me.

As for her mouth being open, Ali Larter has a short upper lip, so the natural state of her mouth would be to not having her lips touching. When she does properly close her mouth she brings her lower lip to her upper one, which would probably take a conscious effort on her part to do and keep it that way.

I agree that thus far Nikki is the least intresting character in the show, but I am willing to give it a few more weeks to see how they develop her split personality and see her interact with her husband starting this week.

Sorry, I find Niki rather intriguing for the following reasons (none of them deal with here beauty/sexiness).

First, this is a woman with issues who is dealing with them the best she can. A lot of what I have seen in these forums deals with a WYSIWYG attitude when it comes to "powers." We have seen Nathan fly. We have seen Claire be indestructable. We have seen Hiro bend time. We know what the powers are here.

Niki/ikiN is a different story. SHe is all about protecting herself and her loved ones. Is the power the mirror image...is that image a different person.

And what about her saying the Micah is "OUR" son. That is powerful stuff, no matter how you slice it.

What I see happening here is a frustration with people who are used to things manifesting themselves within a 1-2 hour period on TV, not taking into account that life does not resolve itself in that way. As Ali has said, the Niki/ikiN arc is being told from N/i's point of view.

To me what will be interesting will be how this self-protect mode will play itself out as Niki joins the Heroes to Save the World.

I will say this:

Memo to DL: I know you will get together with your wife soon...but I caution you, giving any answer to her asking you "Does this dress look fat on me?" may not be the best thing right now. You might be safer back in jail! wink.gif
Bat Girl
I agree with accessdlp on all points.

I don't want to repeat it, so here are a couple of other things I'd like about the Niki character.

Without the superpowers, Niki seems pretty average. She doesn't seem very bright (borrowing 25K for a school donation and not thinking through how she'll pay the tuition). It looks like the only job that she can hold down is stripping to take care of her and her son.

Wham, she gets superpowers. How is she going to cope? Is she going to be able to mentally handle it? How will she be able to step up to the plate and control her life without blacking out?

I think it's a very interesting dynamic and that she has the potential to be one of the more complex characters.

A couple things I want to add is that the actress has great facial expression. You really see a change going on. When there are sex scenes, I think they are tasteful too. That could really be off-putting if done wrong.

Booo.

I find Niki to be one of the more intriguing parts of the show, since she's the only one whose powers aren't clear to her OR us. It's nice to have a little bit of mystery in such things, and with such a large cast, it's something different to do than the rest of the gang.

I also concur with what the last two posters said, pretty much.

Nikki/Ikkin are two of the most facinating characters. I say two as they are quite disimialar from each other. Really... one is the Ego, the other the Id.

How many times have you wished extreme harm on somone who wronged you but wouldn't do it as there was a consequence attached to it?

For Nikki/Ikkin there seems to be <so far> very little consequence.

I think Mirror Nikki represents the true nature of a female. Feral, predatory, protective and with a grace that allows her to slide out of problems with the ease as any cat can land on it's feet.

Compare Nikki and mirror Nikki to any discovery channel footage of feline predators.

That is Nikki to a T.

Why drop anyone? they all make up for a great show and shes ones of the strongest characters(powerwise) and i think she can be a huge link when they face Sylar along with Hiro, Peter and my boy D.L.

My interest with Niki increased with this episode. Now that the whole mob-boss-is-after me story line (which I dreaded, blech) is over, it will be interesting to finally see the dynamics between D.L, Niki and Micah for once. I've only been waiting five episodes! Plus I would like to finally see NikkiA confront NikkiB, which seems like it will happen next week. I havn't given up yet. I'm just gald to finally see D.L. in the show!

Well, whenever they start moving along to that point. At least some of the core characters have actually started meeting each other such as Peter and Issac, Nathan and Hiro, Nathan and Niki, Peter and Future Hiro, and Niki and Ando. I'm glad they are at least starting to put the pieces of the puzzle together. If they went through most of the season without coming together in some form or another I think I'd scream.

Funny you should mention this, as the overbite is what caused me to recognize her from a little known(and actually not half-bad) teen flick called Drive Me Crazy from about 7 years ago, starring Melissa Joan Hart.
JunaD
I think the show would still be okay without her character.
save_the_world
NOT TRUE i find thats nikki story is a good storyline just have to give it time to evolve now micah charater is non-believable he doenst have alot acting skill
roxygr1223
wait til episode 6 and her big fight...i think the next ep is a lot about her, hence the title Better Halves...she actually confronts her other half and fights DL like crazy

Niki is one of my favorite characters (Peter is another one). Femme fatales usually are uninteresting to me, because they usually are ultra-confident, ultra-competent persons. Now, Niki is a femme fatale that is all messed-up and vulnerable, I like that.

I like her mystery too. Not only the obvious one (what are her powers exactly?) but also what exactly happened to her to fragment her psyche in two halves. I like the thing that seems to be building up with DL too.

It's a show with a big and varied group of characters, I kinda like all the characters, but it's natural some people will love some characters and hate others.
