Full Version: Future Hiro tells Peter "BTOWN"

That was great to see more HEROES goodness with the Yahoo TV preview for "Hiro's"! I liked how Hiro seemed to choose his words carefully when he told Peter "Be The One We Need" (caps added). It seemed at first to show how Hiro (or actually the writers wink.gif ) wanted to relay a message succinctly to Peter, since he had little time to talk and said he wanted to avoid a "rift". He might've been able to say, "You need to be the one who we can rely on for help", but that just isn't as elegantly simple. Pretty cool in itself, right? Then I noticed something else!

Hiro did not say, "You ARE the one we need." Slight difference, I confess, but it got me wondering- was the message more than just a profound sound bite we the viewers can remember and/or repeat, or more than just a slick way to get across a message to Peter? Hiro didn't state the similar present-tense form of the phrase, as if whatever kind of person Peter is like now is on whom "we" can depend. I started thinking that maybe there will come a time soon when Peter may have to make a choice, whether to "BTOWN" or not. It could boil down to a difficult decision or a question of priorities at a time when he isn't prepared to quickly choose, and if Peter had not received the reminder from Hiro, he would or could easily choose not to "btown"! ohmy.gif Do you think it sounded like a statement of encouragement to Peter (along with being an efficient and catchy choice of words)? blink.gif

While Hiro was being Mr. Economical in his message to Peter (like measuring words for a telegram), he omitted a detail I thought at first to be important. He did specify that the Painter was Isaac, but he didn't tell Peter who the Cheerleader was. At first, it seemed like that detail might help Peter to btown, imo. Or is that just the "hook" by the writers to keep us viewers guessing? But if an important message has to be relayed, at least in some other shows, like van praagh's jlh show, I think it's kinda dumb when the messenger gives a cryptic message- why don't they just share what the people need to know to get things done? It might make the show shorter, or maybe the storytellers could do something else with the time!

But then... I thought of why knowing the cheerleader's name might not be helpful! What if the cheerleader needing saving is Claire, and Peter went immediately to find her, and then when he did find her, she wasn't in danger. The timing could be off and he'd miss his chance! However, if Peter goes about his timeline without much more than the reminder to "save the cheerleader", then he'll know what it means when he sees a cheerleader in danger, or in other words, the message will then be helpful when needed, right? What do ya think?

Also, I liked how Nathan acted like Jimmy Jean-Louis the Haitian had "neuralized" him! It looks like there'll be some fun interaction between Hiro and Nathan! cool.gif

Well, here are two screenshots of the symbol on future Hiro's sword from the Yahoo TV preview (pretty poor quality):

I DON'T THINK HIRO HAD TIME TO GO INTO DETAILS ABOUT THE CHEERLEADER! PETER HAD ALREADY MET ISAAC SO HE KNEW WHO HE WAS.. HIRO WOULD HAVE HAD TO GO INTO A LOT OF DETAIL TO DESCRIBE HER!
WannaBeAHero
The Heroes of the future may not know who Claire is, because she died before anyone of them could meet her. Maybe in the future they just saw Isaac's paintings and realized they missed a big opportunity.

A newbie here (to the board, not to the show)...but I think Hiro should at least say Claire Bennett, the cheerleader. A name would have been helpful..although the show wouldn't as good then tongue.gif

Wannabe> Wow I never thought of that...but now it makes A LOT of sense. Especially since Isaac's...or shall I say Peter and Isaac's painting shows Claire dead.

Oooh, good point. I was assuming they had met her. I wonder how the future heroes figured out she was the key to saving the world?

Maybe through the paintings?

Now that they know she will die. All Peter and Issac have to do is to paint "backward"? Paint before her death, her school etc...to trace her?

Well I thought Nathan acted like he was "flashy-thingied" by the Haitian from that preview... Anyway, it makes sense that maybe the HEROES in the future didn't have time to know more about who the dead cheerleader is, if events happened quickly after Claire's "splitting headache". I just thought that if Hiro was talking of a scar instead of some fresh wound, then that meant it was far enough in the future that there could be time for Hiro to ascertain the name of the cheerleader, and then maybe share it with Peter.

There still is the idea that he was given only the amount of information that he needed to btown, and any more might've messed things up.

I think telling Peter to "Be the one we need" is a good way to say he has to be careful in what powers he uses in the upcoming battle, if they're to succeed.

It sure looks like he did press Caps Lock once...

Edit: Nvm. I guess you meant that EVERY SINGLE POST IS IN CAPSLOCK. hahaha.

So yes, I agree, lay off the CapsLock. smile.gif
The Alternative One
Thanks for this post. I agree that Hiro had a limited time to tell Peter what he "elegantly" needed to say. I like the way you've thought out the process of being the one we need. This could elude to the fact that nothing in the future is certain and that Peter could very likely NOT be the one they need. Alternate Universe thinking, etc.
