i mean, it was kind of awesome seeing nathan fly like that, and it was cool having all the characters meet, and figure stuff out, but i can't help but feel that this episode is just one of those connecting episodes of filler stuff.
don't get me wrong though, I loved the episode.

it was great to me.
i like how shows of this kind gives more questions than answers in an episode.
gives me a reason to watch next week! =]

I thought tonight's episode is good, except that cop and his wife. Totally BORING and non-neccessary.

Well when you talk and speculate about it all week you kind of get an idea of what's going to happen, so I can understand how you would feel that way.
I personally thought the episode was amazing, it confirmed alot of stuff I theorized and added a whole new batch of questions =)

I get exactly what you mean, while I still loved it, it did feel like just a bunch of filler, but I'm full so it worked

The way I like to think about it is, next week will be even better because this week was just setting up for something bigger.

To me, the episodes just get better and better, probably it was the new one
Actually, I like the idea of bringing the heroes together, makes a lot more sense than to show individual characters in different scenes. And it sure was awesome seeing all of them showing off their "skills". Two more characters left (Claire and the cop) before all of them are united.
...maybe just me, but it's the next episode that I am worried about...too much stuff on Nikki (judging from the preview) makes me wanna go crazy

I didn't think this episode was a letdown. I thought it was quite good overall. Paced very well, kept me interested. Things happend to really progress the storyline forward more so in this episode.
Last week I felt was more of a "filler" episode, but shows of this type are bound to have those.

His mind was erased, he didn't remember that day.
Heh that robbery scene with him was screwy. He shoulda left the gun where it was and, and told them to call the cops, then claimed it was a foiled robbery and the suspect got away

I think you may just have seen the Yahoo TV Preview, and now you're bellyaching that there wasn't enough brand new content to satisfy you tonight, because you had already seen a quarter of the episode and most of the key plot points.

Well every episode can't be action scene after action scene after action scene. Remember that even though it's a show about people with powers it's still a drama. People need downtime and that's what they're showing. For Matt she's there to show his human side, that he isn't all cop all the time, that he has a life outside of chasing villains. She is why he's putting his life on the line every day. It's all about human connections.
Don't worry, I'm sure the action will ramp up again. We still have the homecoming massacre and the big bomb.

Again i will toss up peoples impatience with the pacing of a TV show with watching too much BAD TV.
A great story needs time to build, and characters we CARE about...if we hate the characters or worse yet no so little about them we dont CARE about them than the story becomes worthless.
YES, the parts with Matt & his wife were slow, but they developed his character by showing his motivation for his future involvement..he loves his wife, is a good man, and would want to be a part of saving the world.
Look how he handled that gunman...instead of trying to tackle the guy, which could have wound up getting him or someone else SHOT, he simply REASONED with him with the help of his powers! I think that was an amazing display of the RIGHT way to use a talent like that.
Be patient my friends, this show is young and there is a whole great story to unfold for us, if we let it.
dont RUSH it folks, otherwise it turns into just another AVERAGE TV show.

The ending wasn't quite has "Wow!" as those in the past, but I loved the cyclical nature of it. Perfect.

Loved the episode. Perhaps my favourite one so far, actually. Sure it seemed to reconcile many of the early theories we've all been posting, but I thought it also revealed some very interesting future threads (more about those in another/alter post this morning, have to get the kids off to school right now.)

Thanks for posting this because I was about to say the exact same thing. Besides, it's a fairly good trade-off after Matt was seen for only about 2 1/2 minutes last week. It seems that in a few eps, you have to expect one major character not to have that much air time. This week it was Mohinder's turn, since there really wasn't a lot to develop for him.
I thought it was wonderful to see Matt trying so hard to save his marriage by just doing things nice for Janice. Of course, he ran into problems when all he tried to do was get some coffee ice cream. Someone in another thread said he was getting more adept, but it looked more like he was completely overwhelmed. It's going to take a long time before everyone becomes adept to their abilities.
These characters are trying to live normal lives, but having the powers doesn't make it easy. The writers are doing their job so well in keeping all the characters down to earth and using real world text, not comic terminology.

I couldn't have said more about Matt's character development today he knows his marriage is going down the drain but now he gets to see it from his wifes point of view and since he can hear her deepest thoughts why not do what she wants instead of explaining to her
I hope she never finds out about Matt's abilities!

i completely agree with you. that is exactly what i was thinking when i was done watching it. it was amazing, but, i agree with the idea of "filler space".

I AGREE, THE WRITERS NEED TO TRUNCATE THAT STORYLINE...I DON'T WANNA WATCH SEX IN THE CITY, THIS IS HEROES...YES, I'm YELLING, I YELLED EVERYTIME THAT THEY CUT TO MATT AND HIS WIFE SNUGGLING...
THE ROBBERY SCENE WAS DUMB AS WELL, WASN'T NEEDED, THEY STARTED TO SPEED UP THE NATHAN STORYLINE WHICH I LOVE, CUZ NATHAN IS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER...
ALSO, ISOTOPE HAND GUY, IS NOW A WHITE GUY. WTF?

I thought this episode wasn't too bad. But I can't help thinking that we are 5 hours into the story, and almost nothing solid has happened. The characters are barely less splintered as in the first 15 minutes, they still have either no, or very little clue about what is going on. The bulk of the 5 hours have been character studies, and there are so many characters, each gets only a few minutes in each episode.
I'm beginning to think that the writers were a bit too ambitious with it all. Tried to introduce too many characters at once.
Oh...and for just once, I'd like to see an episode end in something other than a variation of "Ok...here's something really really important, and it is..":to be continued.

I agree with what other people have said already.
If you want each episode to be filled with surprises and intrigue, don't sit in these boards and speculate about it all week, because there are only so many possibilities and every single angle gets analyzed here.
To me, I just started reading these message boards the last couple days and find the theories people come up with interesting, but it did seem like I knew what was going to happen with the major plot points in last night's show. But it was still a riveting show to watch everything unfold.
I guess what I'm saying is that you need to find your own balance between speculating and discussing the show and keeping the show interesting by watching it to see what happens.

My only problem was there were too many commercials.
WAY WAAAAAAY too many.
I know they have to pay bills and all but now that this show is pretty popular they should charge more for the commercials instead of adding in more.
Loved the episode other than that.

The only thing about this episode being a letdown:
Some more inconsistency in timelines. Just perhaps...it can be explained with far-fetched arguments, after all.
I don't think Matt's storyline is boring, unnecessary, pointless and whatever it has been called by people here (not in this thread, perhaps). Ok, I like Greg Grunberg. And his wife is not a bad actress, either. Maybe that helps. I think everyone would try what he does. And he will tie into the main plot, obviously, because of Sylar or whoever killed that family (remember that is in no way proven).
The whole deal about erasing the quarterback's mind was a beautiful solution to the problem. I wonder how I didn't see it coming. What else could they possibly do?
Sure, erasing minds is a terribly convenient power to have on this show, but whatever. I hope they don't use it all the time, because that might be abuse.
HRG is more of a gray character than before, which I didn't expect any other way and I like it.
I loved the scenes between Hiro and Nathan. Or Adrian Pasdar in this episode in general.
I think it enforces that Nathan knew about his power before Peter mentioned it. First I thought he was genuinely surprised, but I doubt it, now. He was just covering it up. He seems to be pretty convincing with lies (wow, who would have figured, him being a politician and all). Very nice interaction.
Niki and Ando was all I expected it to be. That's real. What else can you do except sending him home being a bit flattered and amused while feeling sorry for him. She doesn't know that he is not in Vegas just because of her, because he never said that. For all she knows he's a lonely guy who's desperate enough to chase a webcam girl around the globe. Haha. Poor Ando.
I was disappointed in the revelation that Peter can indeed paint the future, no problem. Just like he was Isaac. It destroys my theory I had about him only being able to use powers at low skill levels...he could just replace Isaac now, for all I know. But maybe there's something else to it.

I'm thinking some of the timeline inconsitencies have come due to rejuggling things once they got a season pickup, and wanted to stretch things out.
I heard of some scenes being moved around, and that could easily have goobered up the timelines a bit, but the folks working on the show might not have noticed, or thought it was minor enough to not matter.
Reshooting entire scenes to have it in daytime rather than night, for example, might be cost prohibitive, so "good enough" was run with.
