actually, my 13 year old daughter had a REALLY good observation with that symbol...she said it looked like a strand of DNA...and I agree, it DOES.

Yeah..I must have missed something. I wasn't aware that Matt or Niki had a tattoo on their backs. Did you see this and can you point to the correct episode so I can check it out?

Perhaps Jessica is just they type that would get that tattooed on her shoulder. The others have had the symbol pop up in random places but I doubt there's a universal "birthmark" for the heroes.

In Episode 4 or maybe it was 5. When Niki and Nathan were in that room together it showed the symbol on her back. I think it only shows up when she's evil though.

So does anyone think that maybe after HRG runs his tests on the Heroes and they show the symbol on their back that they change how they use their powers. I guess we shall see how Matt uses his now that he has been freed. I wonder when and how they studied Niki? Maybe she wasn't so evil to start with...or maybe the question really is what did DL do to her that made her turn on him.

ok, Niki has the sumbol she shows it when she was sleeping with Nathan and she showed it tonight when she was Jessica. When HRG take Nathan they had no interest in Niki because they already studied her. In the preview for next week you see MAtt checking out his tattoo of the helix on his back...who has also been studied.

My guess is that it shows up after MBG has done his mind tricks on someone, he has the symbol on his necklace after all.

yes... it's an RNA strand, do you know nothing about genetics...

is it wrong if they don't know much about genetics? does that make them inferior in some way? does it not matter if they're not content with ignorance but are trying to cure it? or was that just stateing the obvious, as my 7 year old is prone to do?
It was in the pool, apparently Sylar made it. It was on Hiro's sword, so Future Hiro knows all about it. Claire must have doodled it herself (unless maybe her dad did or something). It appears and disappears from Nikki/Jessica. Issac draws it everywhere.
atm, imo, think it has more to do with the process that activates the abilities more than any organization, and it's somehow expressing itself much the same way alphabets sometimes emulate movements of intent. A circle can be used for both simplistic and complex explinations the same way the symbol can be doodled by a teenage cheerleader or used in a complex computer algorithm.

Well, the most obvious suggestion is that it's the RNA strand which forms itself with a normal RNA strand to give supernatural powers. Multiplys itself and continues on through out the body and what not.
Did anyone stop to think that it's a regular RNA strand that we have in our bodies in the first place? Maybe it's the strand in our DNA that stops us from getting supernatural powers. Because odds are, with most RNA strands indigenous to the human body will be destroyed quickly. So maybe it's the strand that stops us from being all cool and what not.

Yes he does, and that made me wonder if like maybe he branded them like the slaves in the civil war to tell who they are for future refrence or something.
It's a grusome idea, but hey it happened in the civil war it can happen now.

Yes. Im a genius when it comes to genetics. My theroy is that the RNA virus was somehow passed into their bodies, and 99/100 times, it died. the 1 time that it didnt, it gave the bodies superhuman abilities.

I agree with the whole RNA thing, but we've been wrong about things in this show before, so who really knows what it means. It is however an amazingly cool symbol, I tend to draw it everywhere now. Seriously, you should see my English binder..

On a somewhat related subject, does anybody remember in episode 8 when Matt and Ted (radioactive man) were in the police interrogation room thing, and they showed each other that they each had the same tattoo on their shoulder? What was that? It didn't look like the symbol, just two little lines.
Any thoughts on this?
I'm probably way off on this, but I'm wondering if maybe everybody with powers gains this symbol as a birthmark or something, and how pronounced the symbol is on their skin, the further along their powers have developed? The two marks Matt and Ted had could be the two lines sticking out of the one side on the symbol.
Just speculation, and I highly doubt I'm right.

You could be right, but you have illustrated what others failed to see. NOt everyone has the RNA symbol and Matt does not have a tattoo of the symbol either. It seems that anyone who has been analyzed by HRG has the two symmetrical lines. So does that mean Isaac has one himself? And the tattoo on Niki only appears when she becomes Jessica, so it could not have been done by HRG.
