I don't think enough can be said about what perfect casting Masi Oka has been for the character of Hiro. It really makes me wish there had been more scenes with Franklyn in Scrubs.

Having lived in Japan for a year - and missing it ever since - I absolutely adore the character Hiro. He reminds me so much of the little things about Japan. I almost felt like I was standing with him on the train in the first episode because I've done that and looked exactly that way many times. And the way he just disregards the whole "we are Japanese" thing makes me think of friends of mine who wished they could do just that. Masi plays it all to perfection.

I also like the interviews he's given. Whenever I run across one I'll give it a read through because I like that Masi has more to say than the recycled lines I've read in so many other interviews by other stars. In fact, can think of only four actors so far where I have made an effort to follow their careers. Masi is one of them. (Just for gee whiz info, the other three are Meg Ryan, David Hyde Pierce, and Michelle Rodriguez.)

And I'll come right out and say it, aside from the brain, Masi is a cutie. Will I ever meet him? Most likely not, but at least I can enjoy the view every Monday. Of course, it'd be more fun to actually talk to him (I'm a sucker for brainy types).

Anyway, with such a great character played by such a great actor, let's hope NBC doesn't screw this up a la Fox and cancel it any time soon. And, I don't know about you all, but I'm at least hoping to see Masi in bigger film roles.

It's true... Masi Oka is certainly the diamond in the rough for this show. The rest of the group are all interesting in their own ways but Hiro is the life of the show for me. The cool thing is that he seems so similar to his character in all the interviews I've read. It's good that a nice guy is getting ahead. The nerdily adoreable shall triumph in the end.

He is also not just an actor like most of the other cast members. He has worked on a ton of special effects for movies. He has also done improv which is not easy either.

Yup! The guy is made of awesome. Truly. A slice of fried gold.
FrizzyCube
Agreed! He's very good in every sense. smile.gif

I'm sorry but when my wife and I watched the first episode we kinda of had a good laugh. The japanese they speak is a little messed up. I speak fluent japanese and my wife is full on japanese born and raised in Tokyo. We always have a good laugh because for some reason when ever there is an american tv show that has someone speak japanese it always seems they get phrases turned around and saying things in the wrong order.

This is not something new to film/TV. Try watching a romance where some "suave Spaniard" tries to hit on an American tourist and having the pick-up line translate to an obscure reference to a chair and calender cycle. It happens all the time in movies. Just try to ignore it and enjoy the show!

I really like Masi Oka too. He just brings life to the show for me. The other characters are really good but he's just so funny and I love his Japanese accent. He also does these hilarious facial expressions in every episode. biggrin.gif He's perfect for the role of Hiro though.

I highly disagree. My girlfriend and I are both Japanese and we speak the language fluently. I think Masi's Japanese is great, not perfect, but definitely understandable. He's speaks Japanese better than Dave Specter biggrin.gif His movements are very Otakkie as well.

His pal Ando's Japanese, however, is definitely laughable. I saw there was already a thread on that.

I'm just glad they found someone Japanese to play Hiro.

I totally love the character of Hiro! He is so likeable and fun to watch I don't know about his Japanese but I just know that he is one of the best characters on the show!! I can't wait to see how he becomes future Hiro and how he learns to use the Katana that is going to be awesome!! laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

I've seen Masi in gold member and Reno 911! but I haven't seen him on the Jamie Kennedy Experience, though I have seen him listed on it on IMDb though.
Last Man of Krypton
Without Masi, I don't think I would've started watching Heroes. Thought he was good in Scrubs, and he's awesome in Heroes, to the point where a lot of the episodes I'm just waiting for his scenes to come up (not that the others are bad, I just enjoy watching him so much). I even thought one day, "he's so cool, they should just name the show after him. Oh, they did! smile.gif"

Well, Masi Oka himself is a practioner of Kendo (Japanese fencing), so it should look pretty believable when he finally starts using the katana. I'm looking forward to it. I'm tired of Hollywood prettyboys being taught a few kung fu moves and playing kung fu masters on the big screen (ahem..Keanu...Afflack). They end up looking RIDICULOUS (though Keanu improved quite a bit during the Matrix trilogy).

It's always nice to watch someone in action who obviously knows what they are doing (Wesley Snipes, Jet Li, Bruce Lee, etc. Hell he can't his way out of a box, but Steven Segal's action scenes look pretty good).

Having studied kendo, I'm sure Masi will be in the latter category.

Yes I completely agree I love this show Hiro is my favorite character and his power is sweet his acting is great and his future is bright. He's gonna do well and I can't wait til he gets the black outfit and sword and of course learns how to use it. I also hope we get to see him fight a dino. Jurassic Park style.

Hiro is awesome. That is why I chose my username.lol

Does anyone know how tall Masi is?

I love the fact he seems to be the only one who sees his power as something more than just a way to save the earth bt something which excites him, in a geeky way.

I suspect as time goes by he will lose some of the things which make him charming now but im looking forward to seeing how he changes.
