Think of it, the left panels are all about the same size and shape, they could be in any order for all he knows. And the big picture of Claire dead, that could have been in the front or middle.

I think anyone who was specifically looking for a pattern would have seen it. He knew Isaac was painting the future, and he looked at the paintings with the express intent of finding connections and patterns and trying to figure out who the cheerleader was that needed saving.
Isaac probably would've been more attuned to what he was doing if it weren't for his drug-addled mind. Plus, until Peter showed up with the message from the future-Hiro, there was no way of knowing that the cheerleader was at all relevant to anything else (i.e., NYC going nuclear).

I don't think it would take a rocket scientist to group them together just to look at them. Once you see them together it's pretty easy to see it does resemble a comic.
