Matt Parkman is one of my favorite characters. He's just such a good guy, he only wants to do good, and isn't an ****** like half of the "Heroes" cast (i.e. Nathan, Niki, D.L., Issac, Brody, HRG, Mohinder etc..) and hasd a power to match his kindness, because he can make a person feel good whenever they need it.
I'ld want his power.
Agent42
Nov 1 2006, 10:31 PM
A great power to have, undeniably.
His "flaw" of course, is that he isn't the brightest bulb on the tree (hey, he failed his promotion three times). Which is fine -- his compassion and dedication more than make up for supersmarts.
It seems the other flaw or limit to his ability is he isn't a full telepath -- he can only receive, not send. So that's nice, just enough power. Though of course it could develop with practice...

Just because he
hasn't sent messages telepathically doesn't mean he can't. It's a little premature to say he can't do something...for any of the characters. If he can send, then that could be extremely cool. He could scan badguys for their next move, then send it to other heroes so they can avoid it...that would rock!

Hey I just read somewhere that Matt's character is from the past? Is that true?
I think it's a good theory. He hasn't met any others yet, not even in a bumping into each other kinda way. BUT I think he has met Claire. He saved that little girl in the closet. That could be Claire!

I love Greg Grunberg and I think he's doing a great job as Matt, but where has he been lately? I hope we see him some more this season, I'd especially love to see him interact with the cast more since it seems like everyones starting to interact with each other more.

Eric Weiss (aka Vaughn's best friend); Greg is the reason I wanted to check this show out.
I am glad Matt is out of the uniform..the street clothes are more flattering. The perfect date he prepared for his wife was great!
It's going to be interesting to see how his story unfolds and to see what happens when he starts coming in contact with more heroes.

With so much shady things going around he's a kinda refreshing actually being the honest cop.
I think they purposely haven't connected him to the other heroes because it would make it almost too easy for him to find who Sylar might be. He can read minds going from one person to another to get clues, plus he now has the FBI woman on his side.

It doesn't look like he escaped. He apparently was released after MBG wiped his memory of his captivity. Remember how he woke up on the couch and didn't realize he had been missing for a day?

The little girl Matt saved is not Claire. Firstly, the little girl Matt saved is named Molly or something, Secondly, remember the conversation Claire had with her mother? "When you were a baby we went through a lot to try and find your parents" etc etc. She had some heriditary baby disease, but in true Claire fashion, it healed itself! :D

I think this was an important clue. It shows that HRG and MBG are not out to hurt, but their plan is still kind of unknown. Who else was worried about Matt when you saw him on the slab, HRG and MBG looming over him? I know I thought "how the hell is he getting out of that? he just reads minds!" though it would have been sort of awesome if he proved to have another power.
I think Matt is a sweetie. He just wants to do good, protect people, and enjoy his marriage. I kind of feel that he's not as important right now, since he's not in a plot point city (New York, Odessa) but maybe his FBI work or something else will take him where he needs to be in order to shine as a true hero :D

Matt's my second favorite, after Hiro, right before Peter. It is a joy to see 'three' people who are like these sweet compassionate guys. They break the stereotype that says 'a group can have only one gentle and compassionate good guy because they are all alike'. Good guys can all be different! I'm tired of characters written to fit a slot. You know, the hot hero, the hot babe, the bumbling sidekick, the innocent do-gooder, the sly villian. Everyone here is developing into a real person, and I treasure them all...

I have to disagree with you on that Claire is the little girl in the closet.
Becasue, her mother said in the last episode that they discovered abnormality in Claire's chromosome when she was a baby. so Claire was adapted way earlier age than the little girl.

Being Dyslexic myself, I have now moved Matt from near the bottom of my list of favorite characters to number 2 now that his dyslexia is official. It's good to see a heroic character who has dyslexia, without it being some major plot point that blows it all out of whack. It's a part of Matt's life, and that's how they're treating it. Good for them!

Now, THAT is an interesting idea, Dave. It would be fascinating if Matt's ability ended up having the effect of helping a lot of the other Heroes better understand/control their powers.
ETA: Oooh, what if, every time Matt's with Niki, he can hear both her thoughts

Because of the graphic novel on matt it seems like he has a very good handle on his power. using peoples thoughts as sign post so you can drive through them all, that's impressive. I bet he will eventually be able to transmit to others. No proof on that just a hunch.

Matt does seem to have a good handle on his ability, it might not be that great but he certainly does have control.
I enjoyed it when he was able to read the thoughts of the lady that was in a coma. Although it kind of freaked me out because it makes me think that we can get trapped in our own bodies. That's a scary aspect. To have your mind working properly but then the human body shuts down like that; ah, it totally creeps me out.

http://www.9thwonders.com/boards/index.php?showtopic=31982There are different levels of dyslexia. For instance I can read most things very well, but sometimes I don't see words correctly. Sometimes I read can as can't or cow as crow or I miss words all together. In general reading this is not a big deal, but when you take a test where the difference between can and can't determines whether you get the answer right or wrong is when it becomes a problem.

and now he seems to be having trouble controlling it.. and it might make him go crazy which would really suck...
