Frankly, potentially the most potent anti-Hero ever.

The ability to wipe peoples' memory? This would in effect render the Haitian (we need a better nickname) invisible.

Consider, he could meet with you then wipe the memory of you meeting him. He could enter a room, assault or rob a person and wipe their memory. If his power increases, he may be able to effect entire groups of people. Waltz through a crowd, wipe their memories (only seconds, really) of him and he's "invisible."

Walk into a bank, rob it, wipe their memories. You get the picture.

In fact...if he can affect memories (brain function), why not be able to wipe the Heroes' powers from their mind? Or make them forget they have the ability?

He's the most dangerous guy out there.

TRUE.

Actually, MBG started the Men in Black.
They took his powers and put it in a pen.
Then wiped his mind.
Now he's stuck on NBC instead of the big screen movies, and he doesn't care, because he never knew.
SimoneD
He is one of the most dangerous guy on the show. I think we need a new nickname for him too.

Any ideas?

How about just calling him creepy wink.gif

Ack.. maybe that's his true purpose? although, he's probably just there to erase the memories of all the kidnappings/experiments HRG is responsible for... ooooh maybe he's the one behind alien abductions... wink.gif

Although there was a perfectly decent thread about Jimmy Jean-Louis now in the character archive, and Craig has stated that those threads will eventually be deleted, and also encouraged new discussions in these threads, here's some info from the archives:

Back around when HEROES had its NBC premiere, IESB posted an interview with Jimmy Jean-Louis, who at the time imdb had credited as the "Mysterious man". And in that (at the time) SPOILERISH interview, I liked his comment when asked about "super" powers: "I could erase your memory..."! blink.gif

I thought it would be neat if he had other "Jedi mind tricks", or "psy-ops" powers, too!
Thik
How about Hollowman.. Since HRG tells him to hollow out people...

my roommate and i watch this show together, and when we heard the phrase "hollow him out" we both shuddered / threw up a little at the same time.

creepiest EVER!

so, i'm down for "sweep" as long as i don't ever have to hear the phrase "hollow him out" ever again!

Here's something that I've been pondering. Was MBG able to block Matt's power simply because it was a mental based power like his, or can he actually turn off people's powers in general. I know, I know, you're gonna say "Then why didn't he turn off Nathan's powers when he flew away?' Answer: they didn't want him dead. If he'd turned off Nathan's powers, he would have fallen to his death. I think this bears further exploration. What say you guys?

If the Haitian can in fact turn off powers then why wouldn't he have turned off Nathan's powers BEFORE he flew away? Plus he looked liked he was about to fight Nathan when Mr. B a.k.a "HRG" said "Take him down." He turned he body into some sort of fighting stance. Soooooooooooooo, what do you guys make of that?

Rats. foiled again. Good point.

I like him the most out of all of the characters. He just seems to be a man of the shadows, and he usually gets the job done. Though I have noticed that when he wipes he has to have physical hands on contact with the individual, which would explain why he couldn't stop Nathan.

Plus, what's wrong with "The Haitian". I mean if the dude is Haitian, then I think it works. Too many times, I've seen some out of the box nickname for a character, and it's refreshing to keep that part simple for now.
peabodyseven
Every time someone mentions the 'Haitian', I want to hand them a kleenex because I thought they sneezed. It seems that MBG has to touch someone to wipe out their mind ( Matt and the Quarterback). He can shut someone's mind off like a clapper (Matt) and perhaps he can dampen their powers enough to where they can't use them (again, Matt). Seems he only follows orders and doesn't work as a free agent. He didn't blank out Nathan's mind because he wasn't told to. He obviously only uses his abilities when told to. HRG told MBG to "Stop him!" (meaning Nathan) MBG went physical and started chasing him instead of using his powers. When Nathan got cornered, again, MBG did nothing and just stood there as if waiting for orders. Is MBG a bad guy? Or has HRG have some kind of hold over him to make him obey orders? Until we find out what his real name is, let's just continue calling him MBG and not give him some lame, silly superhero name...it doesn't work on this show.

maybe this is how the show ends, the heroes save the day then their minds are erased

i vot that we change his acronym for MBG )mysterious black guy) to CED (creepy euro dude) as nathan petrelli stated

He does seem to have been able to block Matt from reading his mind, but then he had less success when trying to stop him from reading Bennet's mind. ("Who's Claire?")

...

Only thing I'm willing to commit to, power-wise, at the moment is his ability to erase memory at a touch.

Should be interesting to watch as more about his powers is revealed.
Micah Jackssah
Maybe MBG have no power at all, or yet his power is Voodoo...
So, why don't we call The Haitian/MBG "Voodoo"?

(As we know, the voodoo was born in Haiti long ago)
Slevin
How about calling him Mindrape
Marlique
You think it's possible that MBG/Haitian/whatever you wanna call him today, is the one responsible for Niki's split personality? Maybe he tried to erase her powers from her mind, but they came back out of the shadows of her unconscious in the form of a split personality?

YOU CANT BE SERIOUS! ARGGHHHHHH! Ok, there probably aren't a lot of black people where you live. But ALL BLACK PEOPLE DO NOT LOOK ALIKE. Geez, two bald black men and people think they are the same. Ok, to answer the question for the millionth time on any board, NO, they are not the same character or actor. This is really getting annoying as a black man.
Thik
Eh.. I was part of the "dl and mbg are the same" crowd at first until it was proven a over eleventy billion times that they arent..

If similar two built, blonde haired, blue eyed, white boys were in those characters places Im sure the problem would be the same. tongue.gif

His powers don't just have a mind altering affect they also give you a tat and a scar according to an interview with Greg on TVGuide.com
Reese
Perhaps the Haitian is what Matt could be. He seems to have been aware of what he is for a long time.

Reese
idallia
I don't think it's the same thing.

Matt has the power to read minds (thoughts). The Haitian has the power to (read?)/erase memories and is also able to block Matt from reading him and possibly others, though a stray thought does get through ("who's Claire?").

Why not call him Bic - the black dude with an eraser on his head
phenom
MBG does inspire many questions.

1. Who the hell is he?
2. If he is so powerful why is he HRG's thrall?
3. Why doesn't he speak?
4. Did he alter nathan's memories in part. He doesn't look
like a "euro" dude to me.
5. Could he be related to D.L? A brother perhaps?
6. Why is he always grabbing his necklace. Is it used to
tattoo his victims?
Very intriguing yes?

I personally don't think he really needs a official moniker.the lack of one just seems to enhance the foreboding air about him.

I had a thought, that perhaps his ability to block the use of powers only works when someone's not in full control of their powers, i.e. has just learned they have them.

This could explain how he was able to block Matt, who's real new at the telepathy gig, and HRG's comment "He's further along than we anticipated." when Matt was able to sneak around the power shield for a look into his head.

It also would go a way to explaining how he had no effect on Nathan Petrelli, who has obviously been using his powers for a long while.

Pantho_Kansatsu
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned or thought about;,and since H.R.G. is somehwat seen as a "good guy" now I'm not even sure if it is relavent, but if Charlie (The girl with the ability to memorize) comes back, wouldn't she be the perfect weapon against him (If he turns out to be an enemy?) tongue.gif Please help me expand on this though, I'm just throwing random ideas out.

Could he wipe her mind of memories it is as equally, if not more powerful, in remember things?

She could also be the greatest infobank for him. There could be a situation where he would need to keep her mentally intact because of the info held in her head and her ability to put it together. That's all assuming that she lives and becomes more involved in the plot.

yes i agree with this 100% and was my theory for a while now. i'm also starting to think that maybe the reason that she's the only one getting a split personality because her old memories are coming back is cause of her superstrength.

Anyone has a suggestion on a name? How about Jimmy?

I don't think the Haitian has the ability to dampen other's powers, and I need to watch the episode again (can't atm stuck in class) but what if drugging Matt's drink had some adverse effect on his ability to read the Haitian's mind? (Can't remember if he was able to read others thoughts while the drug was taking effect or not, just a theory.) [And yes I realize that if he was able to read other people's thoughts that this doesn't really explain why he couldn't read The Haitian's mind and my theory is pretty much invalidated.]
Gutta
I think the Haitian can blank his mind much like he blanks everyone elses. Do know that the body can't function without the mind. This is how he captures Sylar with just a little grab.

The previews at the end of this week's episode show Jessica/Niki showing up at a man's house and saying "... it's your daughter, Jessica" also in the preview is a clip of Jessica/Niki in front of a tombstone that reads "Jessica Sanders". If anything, this seems to indicate that Niki and Jessica are somehow related (sisters? twins?) and that their dad may have done something to Jessica. Either that, or Jessica ends up dead in the next episode (I can't remember if there were dates on the tombstone, and it didn't Tivo the end)!

I agree in that I think the drugs were what affected Matt's mind-reading abilities. I think that Matt wasn't able to read anyone's mind at first, the Haitian's or HRG's, and it's merely a coincidence that the first mind Matt could read happened to be HRG's.
