Question: Was last night's episode the first time Jessica's name was actually spoken or was it in Better Halves. I'm in a debate with a friend right now about that.

Yeah I found that blog. Basically my friend thinks, that if it wasn't said on the show or in the online comic, then it's not credible..EVEN THOUGH it came from a staff member (dumb, I know)

First time it's mentioned in the show is this episode. But it's been "known" since around the airing of Episode 5 from a blurb in Greg Beeman's blog.

Some people prefer not to know stuff before happens on either the show or the comic (I count that as official "legal" source). I'm one of them. It's just ignorance, not being dumb.

By the way, I won't call her Jessica. I don't like that name for her at all. I go with Niki B or Badass Niki.

I found Niki's character confessing to her friend that the other one's name was "Jessica" almost comical. It wouldn't have been any more funny if she'd turned directly to face the camera and say "Her name's Jessica, OK?" to all the fans. That was so deliberately put in there for us, I think.

I agree. There were a lot of instances in the show where it's like "okay guys lets play catch up"

Yeah, but not everyone is as obsessive as us to know that Craig said in a blog her name was Jessica. (so god, how could you NOT know :-P)

Not necessarily dumb. From the blog to the first time it's said on the show, things could change. Rare, sure, but it's still not canon until it's actually on the show.

Until Monday, Jessica could have just been a working name that the staff used to differentiate the characters. Now, it's canon and therefore extremely unlikely to change without an explaination.

I liked her to be called "Ikin" as other people have mentioned, keeping the whole mirror reflection theme and them being opposite.

I still like "Ikin" for the mirror image of "Niki."

I Liked Ikin too, but as Tom said, it's now "canon" so Jessica it is then (at least in my own posts).

I still think how she said it was so obviously funny.

Keep in mind this episode was filmed long before the debate of "Jessica" began; the first nine episodes were filmed before the season began. This wasn't to settle a fan debate.

Yeah, that's right. Everything you think is a reference to the community up to this point must be coincidental.

By the way, I'm guilty of another lie. I already use Jessica. I guess I will only confuse people if I don't stick to what the show names the characters...

There's a post somehwre from the crew that disputes this, but I can't find it right now. It was posted about episode 2 or so and stated that they were still filming 9 and 11, and had had to go back to re-shoot a big scene from episode 10.

So I'm not sure that all 11 were in the can (and I can guarantee even if they were that the later ones weren't through editing yet) before the season began.

Can someone else help with the date/post I'm looking for?

I'm pretty sure somewhere in the beginning he mentioned that they were shooting episode 9 or something.

I'm interested in reading that, but I was afraid there might be spoilers, because I think he says that he might drop a few of them in-between, I don't know. I have to check it out, because it looks really pretty interesting.
