No, for a long time I've been of the opinion that he tried to take her flying (romantically ala Superman) and had an accident, or she was in an accident that he could have prevented if he had flown in public. I'm on the fence.

If not the former, I believe she may already know about the flying thing anyway. All the more reason for him to feel guilty for not saving her, if I am actually right.
