It looks like it was a simple production mistake. It should have been Erick Avari's picture on the back of that book all along!

Yes I noticed that too! I was so happy to see him as Chandra again!

Was it me, or is both Moh's mom and Chadra very very lightly complexioned... while Moh... isn't...?

But ya... Alvari so makes a good eccentric professor. He makes a bad dead cabby though.

Yeah, I was excited to see Erick actually acting in a scene and not just having a pretty face on a book.

Erick's face was on the back of the book in the early episodes,
and "turban guy" in the later episodes.
So, the fact that we're back to Erick playing Mo's dad makes me think maybe this isn't a production error.
The crew making this show seems to have pretty good attention to detail.
I still wonder : is papa S a shape shifter or something?
Foenix
Folks working on the show have said it's a production error.

The shot that's got everyone confused came from the first few episodes, which would have been filmed quite in advance, to use as the pilot, and pitch the series. We know many changes were made to those first few episodes between then, and the time they aired.

Once the show was picked up, they had a plan for the show, and they knew Chandra would be popping up along the way, so they knew they would cast him, and once they had done that, they slapped Erick Avari's face on the back of the book, reshot the two second scene of Peter flashing the back of the book and edited it into the old episode. This would give them continuity when Chandra eventually shows up.

Unfortunately, no one clued in the editor of the next episode's recap, or he simply forgot since it's a very quick scene, and the recap went out with the original turban wearing Chandra.

If the casting and reshoot of that brief moment was done very close to air time, it's even more possible for this screw up to occur.

We're not 'back' to Erick. The turban predates Erick, but slipped through the cracks when they were adding him into already shot episodes.

To reiterate the above answer:

QUOTE (Comic Book Resources)
Hey guys, some readers checked in this week with question and we figured we'd start out with those. Todd Morris wrote, "In episode 2 and episode 3, we get a good view of the back of Papa Suresh's published book. In either episode, the picture of the author on the back of the book (flipped over during the episodes) changes. The actor, Erick Avari, is seen as the author in episode 2, while another actor is seen on the back of the book in episode 3. Is this intentional or a fluke of editing/production?"

Fluke. (or technically, the unfortunate result of feeding the hungry monster that is weekly television) Sometimes a few crumbs hit the ground. Forgive us. Suresh's father will be played by Erick Avari, and we're lucky to have him - or have we given too much away already?
