I've seen some nit picky observations on these boards where somebody knows a little too much about something and their suspension of disbelief is shot for a moment. So here's my observation.
I am a barber and I can and do give straight razor shaves. If you put the blade flat to the skin at a 0degree angle you won't cut any hair unless its long enough to catch and then you'll be pulling it out. The optimal angle is around 45degrees. Its not an exact science its more of a feel. If you put the blade on the skin at a 90degree angle you had better be very good at what your doing or you will cut the person's face. If you were good enough to shave a face using a 90degree angle you would know better than to do it unless you absolutely had to. For instance I do this to get the hair under the nose so I can shave it with the grain(the direction the hair grows).
When I watched the episode last night I thought she was using a 90degree angle and I immediately thought "She has no idea what she's doing" and "Why would she have to shave him at all he has two working hands". Not a big deal to me. I watched the show and pretty much forgot about it.
I watched it today online and noticed that she actually had the blade at more than a 90degree angle. She was essentially pushing the hair down and scraping off the shaving cream. The sharp edge of the blade would never catch a hair. I will give her some credit for softening up the beard with a hot towel first though.

There was also a storyline that didn't get picked up in the aired pilot which had Isaac cut off his hand. Perhaps the shaving part was filmed before the editors cut that scene.
Edit: I just watched the scene again. Isaac's hands are show all over the place.
As for poor shaving technique, it's probably because of time constraints (the producers didn't think to hire an advisor or didn't have time to teach the actress how to do it properly). It's hard when your suspension of disbelief is pushed too far.
Why does everyone speak English in India? That bothered me too. Some of the characters in the India scenes weren't very good actors or seemed miscast too.
I assume with time constrants some actors didn't have time to learn lines in second languages. The actor who plays Hiro speaks fluent Japanese so I assume that's why the director had the actors speak Japanese in Japan. It really felt like a foreign place in the Japan scenes. I didn't get that feeling from the actors in India. Both of Mohinder's parents were also much lighter in skin tone than him which also seemed weird.

Isn't English is an official language of India? I would think that the educated in India would definitely be able to speak English fluently.

Someone I was watching the show with thought that she was Sylar and she would kill him with the straight razor and take his brain.
Will these theories never end!?!?

I was a little weirded out by the shaving scene too. It seems a lot of tv and movies use the straight edge razor, maybe just for dramativ effect. But do people really still use those? It also may have been Eden trying to establish control and/or trust. That sharp-a** blade right on the jugular...I would have been freaking out!
I have 2 friends that are Die hard Straight edge razor's fans. they wont use anything else. i have used them 2x. I have never had a smoother shave.

Maybe I should try it sometime. But I am a girl so need need to shave my face and I cut the hell out of my legs with a cheap disposable razor so there is no telling what damage I could to do to my ankles with one of those!

Would you let an actress with a real straight edged razor shave your face while doing a scene?
I'm assuming it takes a fair amount of skill to do with practice. I've never heard of a lady using this kind of razor on herself (notice i didn't mention where). So, to have casually picked up this skill is kind of low (although possible). Then there is the trust factor between the actor and actress. One slip and things go south real fast. Think of the insurance, not to mention the shooting schedule getting messed up.

I think they choose to show her shaving him with a straight edge razor to show how much Issac trusted Eden. (Is that her name?)

We have customers who get facial shaves. I probably do about 1/week. I shave heads or use the straight razor to do a military style skin fade. My shop is one of only two shop in my city that still use straight razors for more than just around the ears.

India was aBritish Colony for a LONG time, British Universities had campuses there, it stands to reason that most highly educated Indian people would speak English fluently, with at least some British acceent, as all of the Indians on the show seem to have.
The actor who plays Mohinder was on Grey's Anatomy in a bit part, and he had no accent at all, so I think Mohinder's British accent is affected.

On the set or onstage we don't use a REAL straightrazor. We use a prop razor that is made of metal or plastic and couldn't cut a stick of butter. So assuming they don't have a death wish, they most likely do the same on this show...

I haven't really read much of this thread apart from the first couple of posts, so here is my arguement.
The original poster knows what he is doing when he is shaving with a razor, i'll give him that, but the character Eden, doesn't know what she is doing, simple as that. She isn't a trained barber, so she wouldn't know.
