Petunia
Hi,

I'm brand new here and am putting an intro in the appropriate place but something in Homecoming bothered me and I'm hoping someone here could shed some light.
I apologize if this has already been discussed.

I noticed tonight that Sylar killed Jackie because he had read the same article in the trophy case that Peter had. So does this mean that all of Sylar's other victims had some kind of publicity sugestive of their abilites? Were people talking about the waitress who had an amazing memory? If he couldn't somehow "sense" who Claire was then how did he know the others?

Anyone?

well if it is proven that Zach Quinto is in fact Sylar which just maybe next week. He knows the same way Mo knows. From the list. Which just maybe why Sylar kills Chandra in the first.

I don't think he can sense other people with special abilities I think he only knows about them when they are expoited saying they have "special abilities". If you remember he has a map on his wall in his apartment with all of the pictures with articles around them. or most of them. anyway thats what i think. i could be totally wrong.

Agreed. If he had a sense, he would have ignored Jackie. He doesn't divert his attention until he sees Claire re-assembling herself.

I see a small hole in this. If Slyar has the same map as PS, wouldnt he know the names of his victims?, Since Jackie isnt on the list but her name was in the paper why would he still go after her?

He probably just figured it was the girl in the paper who did the superhero thing in the fire and that was Jackie from what people knew. I did find it interesting that Sylar could not tell who has abilities and who does not. I kinda assumed he had the power to know.

Isn't it obvious he likes to cut people's heads of with super powers. Since he's already wrapped up in whatever is going on, I think he could tell who has powers and who doesn't. Plus, Claire ISN'T on the list.

He read the newspaper and probably thought, mmm Jackie regenerates. Yummy cheerleader.

yea i think all he has is the list and cannot sense the powers. we will definetly find out next week maybe.

If Sylar could sense other heroes then he would have most likely taken the opportunity to kill Hiro and/or Matt when he was near them, but he didn't.

We don't know if Sylar had access to Chandra's list of names and locations. He is probably just using the map he made in which some details are unclear to him. If he had the name "Claire Bennet" to go by, he would have known that Jackie was ordinary, because he had seen Jackie's name and face in the newspaper article he saw at the school.

In the earlier episodes, some of the other victims whose heads were sliced open were also frozen, in the last episodes that involved Sylar, we did not see any of the freezing powers used.
Do you think Sylar had another accomplice?

I don't think we have ever seen the complete compiled list of supers, just bits and pieces. I know someone did put up a screen shot of a map with both Claire and Charlie's picture pinned up, Charlie slightly above Claire's picture. The picture of Claire looked like she was alot younger though, I think even with braces. If Sylar somehow had that photo, would be an easy mistake to think Jackie was Claire.

Good point about Sylar. If the "heroes" stay quiet about their powers Sylar wont find them.

he doesn't have the list... he has the map.

i think it's pretty obvious that Sylar only has second-hand information about the heroes he's hunting -- at most, their pic and location on the map

he didn't find Molly under the stairs (of course, it's entirely conjecture that Molly has powers and was his primary target), and, as already pointed out, he didn't bother with Matt or Hiro at all

right! he knew the location of a super in Texas (maybe two if you count the waitress, was her name on the list/map) but didn't have a name. he walks into the school and sees this paper clipping of a cheerleader who can walk through fire. I would jump to that conclution of Jackie being the one i'm after.

A map wouldn't help him pick out one specific family from a city of 4 million or one waitress in a city of 100,000. He doesn't have the ability to detect powers, and stalking people to find out would take several lifetimes. I think he might have a partial list of names.

I do agree that there is some confusion over how he knew to go to Odessa and attack a cheerleader. There is a scene in the preview that amplifies the confusion. I think that before Sylar turned bad, Chandra mentioned to him that there's a young girl with abilities in Odessa, Texas, but didn't tell Sylar her name.
