I think this is the same article you've linked to another thread...unless I'm missing something, I can't see the Spielberg reference

Speilberg can bite me. Responsible programming? They already rate the shows and give a disclaimer before airing. Like Belaset said try a little responsible parenting instead.

Couldn't agree more. If you don't want your kids watching certain shows, turn the tv off!

A lot of shows that get bad raps are what should be after a kids bedtime. My parents made me go to bed at 7:30 until I was 10, and 8:30 until I was 12. Then my parents got divorced and I stayed up as long as I wanted. I think kids 12 and over should have no problems watching Heroes.

Spielberg must of forgot he made the Temple of Doom.
jettasian
Well, why doesn't he give up his billion dollar directing job, and make some children tv shows then? Sheesh!
elketerbentzadik
'Heroes' is on at 9PM on a school night. Shouldn't less mature young people be in bed or going to bed by that time? There's nothing in the show that's too "gruesome" for older kids ( 10-12 + ) as far as I'm concerned. When I was a kid, maybe 7 or so, I went and sat through 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' ( a Spielberg film, and one which caused so much controversy about content that the MPAA created a new rating for films between PG and R, PG-13 ) without incident. And I don't think anything in 'Heroes' has proven more gruesome than anything in that movie.

Parents simply need to take a more active role in their kids lives. Maybe if people like Spielberg weren't hoarding billions of dollars unto themselves and were sharing their wealth with society people wouldn't have to work the hours or have the problems they currently do which take their time away from parenting?
jettasian
And ET, that freaky creature, gave me nightmare!
Dr. Girlfriend
I agree. I do think 10+ could handle the show okay. Granted, there is a few gruesome moments, but like elketerbentzadik and jettasian said, there are a lot more scary things in Spielberg movies (I too saw Temple of Doom as a child and it scared me.)

Maybe for the dvd release they could replace Nicki/Jessica's gun with a walkie-talkie. rolleyes.gif

Hahahaha! I almost forgot Spielberg did that.

That's actually scary to me. Because he supposedly did it because he felt kids seeing police holding guns at the ready against kids in the movie was too harsh and frightening. But in real life police have no problem holding a gun on a kid and kids in cities across the country get shot down by cops all the time. So it's actually sending an unreal message to children to not show the police with guns. Kids should be afraid of guns and not want to be on either side of a gun barrel.

AMEN AMEN AMEN!!!
2 many parents tryin to be "FRIENDS" with their kidz instead of leaders and role models. Yeah, be yer kid'z best friend, but LEAD! Lay the smack when you got to. Encourage all the time!
Okay, I'm done now.

I am disgusted that Spielberg would criticize a show like Heroes. I completely agree that most shows are on later to avoid the age appropriation issues. I also agree that parents need to be the one in charge of the TV, after all, they are the ones paying for the electric and the cable. I am glad that someone brought up ET. I loved the movie, saw it in theatres when it came out - but the opening scene was a group of kids playing D&D (which has had it's day of fighting for it's rights), and Elliot calling his older brother "Penis Breath".

Those who live in glass houses...should clean up their own backyard...and any other boring cliche (accent missing sorry) that fits.

We have three boys. They are 12, 10, and 8. We watch both appropriate and inappropriate television together. Rather than immediately changing a channel when something goes awry, we discuss why we are going to change the channel, and what actually deems it as inappropriate. That way we are giving them the skills they need to make better decisions outside of our home as well, because quite frankly, children are out of our grips more than 50% of their day. Do we really want children only making the right decision 50% of the time? My two oldest are fans of the show, my youngest's bedtime preceeds the viewing of the show, but I am sure he would enjoy it.

Now stepping off of my soapbox. Thanks

My very first post...

Speilberg is jealous that he didn't think of Heroes first and that the creators of the show have tapped into an unexplored genre in BORING american tv.

Too bad stevie...put your precious little ones to bed early and then you won't have to worry about them seeing this "gruesome" show.

ummm, yeah, ok I think Schindlers List is much better for kids to see. Stupid Schmuck,he should stick to doing depressing films like Munich and leave his opinions to yourself. Noone is interested his ideas of what is good parenting.

Yes, it is. I wiould use Schindler as part of a 20th century history curriculum.

I loved Munich; it was so much better than WotW. I'd call it solemn rather than depressing, but tastes differ.

mad.gif AAArrrggg, this is SO FRUSTRATING. All this talk about changing the show because of some parents groups is being taken WAY to seriously. If they change on hair of the show to make it weaker they are going to loose their audience SO BAD. THAT they should take seriously.

Actual comic books are a lot more graphic and harsh then this show EVER could be with out being a feature film. And kids are introduced to comic books as early as age 5. SO, it's no suprize that a younger audience as well as an adult audience is watching this show.

And I don't know if he knows this, but kids like blood and all that. They like violence! lol some people like this show because of the blood wich only is seen when Clair or Sylar is around. lol
Pacifica
Aren't TPTB talking about reducing the violence on Heroes because of some of these complaints?

This boggles my mind, since as many have said, comics themselves can have more violence than this.

Plus, isn't NBC the same network that shows Medium? Albiet that starts at 10 pm, but I would say the violence quotient for Medium can be much higher than either Heroes or CSI.

The violence on Heroes seems comparable to the other shows running at the same hour. Plus, it is a show about superheroes! A certain level of violence is to be expected, I would think!
