I'm watching the replay of this week's episode on SciFi, and I just noticed something weird:

When Peter meets Nathan at the hospital, he asks how Heidi is doing. Nathan answers, "She's been in surgery for ten hours." How is that possible? Peter is woken from his dream by Nathan's call - it's presumable that he got up and headed to the hospital. So why would it take him ten hours to get there when they both live in New York City? Even taking the subway from borough to burough wouldn't take more than 2-3 hours, tops.

Continuity error? Hiro time rift? Something else? blink.gif

i did notice that. Peter obviously wasn't dreaming in "real time" so to speak

but i thought it even more unusual that Nathan had been hanging around a hospital for 10+ hours, and nobody looked at the gash on his head. or told him to get some rest. or gave him a Tylenol. or even brought him coffee ...

my gosh people! i know we are all nerds but come on. you are making stupid assumptions. who cares if he had coffee or not. sometime we can look to deep into a show.
have you ever thought that, Nathans wife would be in the ER for 10hrs. and they called Peter early in the morning? hmmmm.. maybe so.

No idea. Perhaps writing error.

BUT CHECK THIS OUT!

I just noticed something in "6 months ago" that I havent seen anywhere on the boards yet...

When Sylar kills Brian Davis in his clock workshop--his first kill-- the clock behind Davis-- the really big one made of glass like its part of the face of the building-- so its backwards, BUT THE TIME IS 11:53 !
Its during the day, so 11:53am, but that was his first seven minutes to midnight/midday.
How did this affect his wristwatch etc?
Anybody else notice this?

Peter couldn't be dreaming real time, anyway. How could Nathan call him right after he fell down on the ground?
His dreams are delayed, apparently. And that's logical if you think that he probably wasn't even sleeping when the accident happened.

11:53...nice catch!
It's all symbolic. Another pattern they will throw in every chance they get. Probably explains why he didn't fix his watch after it was broken. By the way, that watch looks pretty cheap. I guess he simply didn't care about a piece of crap watch like that. biggrin.gif
(hope I got this right and not offending any watch lovers right now...)

That bugged me too! In ten hours, nobody thought to maybe bandage or stitch that thing? Worst hospital ever!

Maybe they offered but he said don't worry about me save my wife.

There's nothing to suggest that Peter woke up immediately after the accident - perhaps he got the phonecall the next day? And perhaps Nathan rejected any offers of care because he was concerned about his wife?

Seriously - there is nothing OMG about this. dry.gif

He dreamed it in real time, and then he woke up and answered the phone, he had the dream at the right time, but didnt wake up til later, duhh! biggrin.gif:D

In an earlier episode when Pete and Nate are talking and Pete is reminding Nate how he knew of the accident before being called, Pete says something about them living a certain number of hours apart. Off the top of my head, I don't remember what number he says but I remember being struck by them saying they lived a good distance apart. Obviously in the 'current time' they live nearby but maybe they didn't 6 months ago. This might explain the 10 hours.

Also, is Nate's accident the same night as the party? If it wasn't perhaps Nate and Heidi were away from their home too, on a trip maybe.

Peter mentioned that he knew about the accident "...300 miles away..." before he got the phone call.

Same night. Heidi is wearing the same stuff. Unless you choose to believe they were on another party on another day and she's always wearing the same thing. tongue.gif

frank:
You mean he dreams in real-time, then keeps dreaming that over and over again until the phone rings?
Usually a cut like that suggests it's the same time (transitional cut or whatever we called it in school), but in this case they are linked by the dream, it's still the same style of cut. But if he didn't even dream about that particular thing when Nathan calls it's totally random.

Meh, I hate it when I remember all that tech stuff from school...ruined a bunch of movies.

Maybe he dreamed in real time, and just thought it was a bad dream. Then when the hospital called in the morning he went there and got there in a few hours.

Given the little bit that we know about Heidi's injury (something related to the spinal cord), does anyone know whether 10 hours is a reasonable length of time for her to be in surgery? When I watched this episode (on Monday and Friday!), I struggled to decide whether I had heard "ten" or "two" hours. My brain kept trying to say that it was "two hours" for all of the reasons that have been mentioned above--ten just didn't make sense to me. But because so many of you seem to have heard "ten," I guess I'll have to go with that. Did anyone think they may have heard "two hours," or am I just crazy? wink.gif

As far as distance and the time it took Peter to get to the hospital, remember that we don't know WHERE he went to nursing school (unless I missed that somehow). He could have been quite a long way from NYC.

On the sequence and timing of this event, I've got a couple of questions.

First, do we know who made that call to Peter? If it was Nathan, how and/or from where did he call? When Nathan says in the waiting room that he should call their mother, Peter offers his cell phone, as if Nathan didn't have one on him. (That may mean nothing--just Peter trying to be helpful.) If the call came from someone at the hospital, how did they know to call Peter? And if Nathan told them who to call, why was it Peter that he chose?

If Heidi has really been in surgery for 10 hours, and if the dream was in real time, could it be that Nathan called Peter from the accident site before he even called 911? That would say something really interesting about their relationship.

It also says something interesting about Nathan in particular if it's been 10 hours and he hasn't called his mother. I was fascinated that the reason he gave for WHY he "should call Mom" was "That's what Heidi would do." We already know that Nathan's relationship with his mom is not as close as with his dad, and that Peter is closer to their mother. Still, "I should call Mom. That's what Heidi would do," is an interesting comment!

Thoughts?

Peter said in ep 1 that "We've always been close."

300 miles takes roughly 5 hours to travel.

The part that I find irking is, in the pilot, Momma Petrelli says "We all got the same call."

Usually it's the police/ambulance that make the call. Maybe when they called Momma, she wasn't home? When they called Peter, he was.

Also, I'll need to rewatch that scene again from 10, could Nathan want to call his mom for advice, or something else? Or possibly try another number to get in contact with her/check on her, etc.

Honestly... if Heroes went the route of 24 (in showing every second of someone's life), I doubt I'd watch the show..

Peter says "I had a dream right before you called"
There are payphones in hospitals...
Nathan said 10 hrs
and did anyone notice the nice eclipse like reflection on the glass from the lights in the hospital?
