I agree. My first car was a hand-me-down from my brother when he got himself a used Camaro. Besides, with the way gas prices are nowadays, I would love to take up flying to work. That would save about $1200 a year on gas!

For me, personally, I like a fuel-efficient car that'll just get me from point A to point B. And I'm also happy to say I paid for my 2001 Honda Civic myself. I finished off car payments last year. If I had the chance to tell Niki, I'd say save your money and buy a good Honda. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if vehicles for the show are provided by Chevrolet or Ford.

Niki has awesome taste in cars! All you have to do is paint it bannana yellow and it'll look like the car my parents bought right after they got married!

I'd guess this is one of the many reasons they gave her a car like this. Logically, a good choice for a single mom. But also, Niki will look much more beautiful in a car that seems very beneath her.

Single mother who can barely afford her rent/bills and has to go to a mobster loan shark for 30g to get her kid into a private school..yep, a Gremlin looks about right to me!

Yeah, but speaking purely from imagery, they want their male viewers to really find her attractive-- on a shallow level, it'll make us watch longer, while they try to keep us there with a compelling performance and a good story.

It's their mission to make us fall in love with Niki (and Claire and Isaac and so on), and making her dirt poor and desperate doesn't hurt (and neither does choosing a beautiful actress).

In other words, I think they chose an image to go with a story. It's the Hollywood way!

Niki (I have not seen the pilot, just seen the previews) strikes me as a bit of a damsel in distress. She's someone who needs saving but there's no one, so she has to learn to depend on the friend in the mirror. Oddly, she's like the Bill Bixby Incredible Hulk, in that way.

We could talk about Larter being beautiful/sexy all day, but I think beyond picking her for looks, Larter was chosen 'cause she can do determination and vulnerability in equal strides, and she's easy to like. Paul Giamatti has that too.

But if I were a producer and wanted to bring in young male viewers, I'd be real eager to accent Larter's beauty (dingy surroundings for a domestic goddess) without going so far as to exploit it (like Desperate Housewives putting Longorio in the bath often). It's a deft touch.

Well, as a young female (okay, comparatively 30 going on 31 ain't all that young) whose a lesbian..I'll admit that there's a certain beauty to Ms. Larter..but, I am not over here drooling over and treating her like a piece of meat...but, then again I am not attracted to her!

Um, we won't get into the feeling of insult I am perceiving from your response, but yeah she sells...apparently so does Hayden...and Milo/Adrian..Tawny...they all sell..because it's "Hollywood" and "Sex-Appeal" sells...it's one of those "Duh!" factors!
