Niki (I have not seen the pilot, just seen the previews) strikes me as a bit of a damsel in distress. She's someone who needs saving but there's no one, so she has to learn to depend on the friend in the mirror. Oddly, she's like the Bill Bixby Incredible Hulk, in that way.
We could talk about Larter being beautiful/sexy all day, but I think beyond picking her for looks, Larter was chosen 'cause she can do determination and vulnerability in equal strides, and she's easy to
like. Paul Giamatti has that too.
But if I were a producer and wanted to bring in young male viewers, I'd be real eager to accent Larter's beauty (dingy surroundings for a domestic goddess) without going so far as to exploit it (like Desperate Housewives putting Longorio in the bath often). It's a deft touch.
