It was OK. Kind of slow moving.
I thought the plotline with Kensei didn't move enough; I almost wish they'd saved it for another episode. Basically we've been spending all this time wondering how awesome he is and so far all we saw was him act like a jerk, which was kind of disappointing to watch. And we didn't even get to see his power, which just made it seem like a waste of time.
They also wasted time with that stupid dinner conversation. There could have been important stuff happening in that time.
I think Parkman's plotline was the most interesting, and seeing him use his powers in combat was nice.

I was pretty pleased all around with it, but it sucked that the Sanders family was a no-show.

I gave it a four because it created a lot of new questions:
- What's Maya's power?
- Why isn't her brother affected? OR CAN he get affected?
- Who's the dude in the hoodie?
- Who stashed Peter in the container?
- WHY would they stash Peter in the container?
- Why does he have the symbol on him? Has he been marked? If he has, by whom and how did they know?
See? Man.. I'm left with all of these questions. Darn these weekly meetings! I want answers NOW!

Sep 24 2007, 06:33 PM
I was slightly disappointed, but then again, most premieres are slow going. I did feel the Bennet family storyline took too much time, and should have been used to check up on the Sanders family, or at least Micah, so that we can find out if D.L. survived or not. Or maybe give some more time to the new heroes showing up. The only time the Bennet thing turned interesting is when we find out Noah and Mohinder are plotting to take the Company down.
So...no more George Takei? ;-; What's Ando gonna do now? Is he gonna be extra protective of Kimiko? Where IS the Haitian? He totally poofed before the finale and still no word on him.
AND OMG, I THINK THAT PARKMAN'S DIVORCE = SUCKS. Srsly. All that pain and effort of trying to save the marriage for nothing? And she's pregnant!? Jeez, Parkman's gotta be the strongest Hero there is to suffer all of that and not just will his own head to explode or something. ;-;

This episode was what I was hoping for when I expected the season opener! Though, I have one scene that is confusing me... What did Nathan see in the mirror for a second there?
Still, even with that, it gets a 5 for me.

Honestly, for a first episode... it wasn't GREAT. I'm still anticipating that this is building up to something BIG... Overall, it was too slow paced for my taste. I think Peter was the first character I wanted the focus to be on after what happened in the finale, but they shoved him in right at the end.

Oh, and I expected atleast a FIGHT when Hiro's father was meant to die. I mean... PLEASE, pushing someone off a building? THAT'S IT? Isn't Hiro's dad supposed to have uber cool powers? & what's with PETER PAN? lol. Claire's new friend is kind of creepy, no? How did he even know where she lived? lol. RAWR. I dunno. I mean... I LOVED SEASON ONE. I'm just hoping that season 2 is just as good... hopefully BETTER.

I think that's just par for the course with a show like this. To me, the first and last episodes of season 1 weren't as strong as the others (that's not to say they were bad, just not as strong). Things are always better when the ball is rolling.

4 out of 5.
I'll give a more detailed opinion later but It did exactly what the first episode of the new seasons should do.
Raised alot of questions, reintroduced the cast, settled you in with them and set a slow pace that's going to evetually end up skyrocketing.
One of the things I was worrying about was that they might have tried to focus the episode on just Claire and Hiro, luckily that fear was quickly put to bed.

Feh, Kaito didn't even go out with a fight if he is indeed dead. That was about the most awful confrontation scene I've ever seen on any show. Is there some rule on Heroes where the characters CAN'T raise their hands to defend themselves and ACTUALLY have a brief fight scene that would be more believeable over Kaito, a man who obviously has skills in martial and fighting arts, and a man who has a power of some sorts, just gets grabbed and wrestled over the edge of a rooftop.
That scene alone gets 1 out of 5 for being crappy and weak. I hated it the first time when I saw it in season one's "Homecoming" where Peter and Sylar did it. Can't the writers come up with something NEW for a confrontation scene instead of just pushing a guy off of a roof? Sheesh.
The rest of the episode gets a solid 3. I liked the start of Hiro's journey and the introduction of Kensei, and the explanation of why an Asian Kensei was on the battlefield. I also liked when Nathan told his mom that she is evil, considering she is, thus showing he isn't her puppet anymore.

It was pretty good, but a fair but was just too ... neat or stereotyped? I'm not sure how to explain, so I'll just list some examples.
The cheerleader sounded exactly like Jackie.
West seemed a lot like Zack (with the addition of flying).
The boss at the copy place seemed like a character out of Office Space - completely unrealistic.
Ok, so Janice dumped Matt - what about his baby? Although she might still be pregnant, it would be worth mentioning this since he apparently completely moved away from her.
Gawd, the actors that played the Irish carbombers could not have been Irish, or at least not all of them. One sounded ok, but one guy had a NY twist to his fake Irish accent.
On the other hand, I thought Nathan's start for the season was done well.
Same with Maya and Alejandro - good start and Maya's emotions were played well.
I like Mohinder and his tricks.
I'm still up in the air about Hiro's journey. He's still fun, but I want to see where this goes first.

Pretty darn good. Gotta remember that the season premiere like the show's premiere likely works better when watched together with the 2nd episode. Almost like a two parter I'd wager.

I was disappointed. I have been trying for months to get my Sweetie to watch this show with me. Finally, a few hours before the premiere, he agrees to watch it. Yippee! I think to myself, "I will no longer have to watch this alone." Unfortunately, the episode required too much prior knowledge of the characters and story lines for him to get involved. I had to explain the back story on too many levels. I'm concerned the series will not be able to attract new fans. Will newbies be willing to watch and remain with the series throughout the season? I don't know. I felt the explanation for Parkman's living in New York with no wife and baby was a huge let down. Oh, he's divorced. That's a cheap way to write yourself out of that corner. And please explain how Noah can afford the house where the Bennet, make that Butler, family lives on the salary of a retail assistant manager? Or does Primatech have a good pension plan? (funny dinner scene, though). That brings up another point: I laughed when the manager discussed the finer details of paper with Noah, then had to explain why it was funny to my Sweetie.
Overall, I thought it was a slow and sloppy episode. I liked the Hiro storyline and wondered what happened with Nathan and his congressional seat. Did he resign? Was there a scandal? It was only toward the end, when the setting switched to Ireland did things get interesting. Of course, I'll be back next week to see what happens but I'll be watching alone. As much as I loved Season One, I can't say I would for sure be back for the second episode of this season if I had never watched it before. If I didn't know who Peter was, why would I care he's stuck in a cargo container with amnesia? I've invested time into these characters so I do care, but I don't see how anyone who is new to the show will care when they don't know who they are supposed to care about.

It was ok - but it wasn't great. Given last season's cliffhangers, it would be hard for the premiere not to be a little anti-climactic.
But still, it was the first time I've ever turned away from the show & just listened to part of it. I'll have to go back & rewatch.
Too much time on the Bennet/Butlers/teenager thing - made it slow & didn't really add much
Kaito's death: been there done that, disappointing. No fight? No block? No reflexes? Not smart enough to duck? The whole flying, jumping, falling off the roof thing's been played out.
Don't like that the Cheerleader & the creepy stalker always there rude contrived Peeping Tom kid look so much like Jackie & Zack. I hope that we're not supposed to like him. Claire will get no sympathy from me if she falls for him.
EDIT: I think I (maybe over) rated it a 3. I too have to add that if it was the first Heroes show I'd seen, I don't think I'd tune back in next week. But I'm a huge fan, so I will :-D

1 ECLIPSE
Forgive the frustration, but the season premiere was big load of poop. What happened to this great show? I know last season's finale didn't live up to the standard and potential it had been building all season, but I was hoping this season would open up strong and fierce. Nope. Instead we got poop. We got a drinking, TOTALLY UNINTERESTING English guy with a horrible British accent. We got a flying teenager in a tree, over the top Ladyy cheerleaders, our Hero kid Mollie started to have those ever popular cliche nightmares (ooooh, you could have seen that one coming), Claire's family is now the most boring family on the planet, and where is Peter? And what is George Takei and Peter's mom doing on top of that building just waiting around be killed if they know they're going to be killed? What a let down that he get's pushed off the side of the building. Great action sequence, huh? I've seen better action scenes on the Oxygen channel. I want my old show back. It was smart, tense, and didn't take us for granted. I did like the guy who can turn things into gold and the Honduran immigrants was kind of okay. But a season premiere should deliver and deliver big (without giving away the store of course) But no. Instead we got poop.
But like a true fan, I'll be back next week for more.

The plotlines were of varying quality. Matt/Molly, Hiro/Kensei, Mohinder/Company Guy, Noah at work were all excellent. Claire's was pretty good, though a bit cliche, and distrubing due to the CREEPY FLYING STALKER! bit. Ando/Kaito was unsatisfying, but sort of illuminating and plotty.
Nathan's thing was absolutely baffling, to an absurd degree. I mean, I know it's been four months, but they didn't have to make it THAT illogical. It is sort of funny that Peter is the one presumed dead.
I do like the Peter-in-Ireland thing. Mainly because I likey Irish accents, and amnesia subplots. Now, Peter can deliver the badassery we all know him to be capable of.
Missing Niki and Sylar is really no great loss. Except to the Sarmy.
So, 4/5.

Sep 24 2007, 11:42 PM
i've never really liked Claire's plotlines very much. How often do we have to watch her deal with snobby cheerleader. Unless she's getting mutilated, attacked by Sylar, tranking Ted, or standing in the backgroud while Noah acts like a BAMF, i really dont enjoy watching her scenes. The Kaito scenes were dissapointing too, for obvious reasons.
other than that, great! The Hiro/Kensei scenes were perfectly written and acted. ("My sword!" "My sword!" classic) I especially love how Kensei was totally relaxed and Hiro's panicking. I'm seriosuly gonna love this past plotline. I like how Nathan's downward spiral wasn't overplayed at all. There was no "YOU DONT KNOW ME!" and no "I'LL TELL YOU WHEN I'VE HAD ENOUGH!" He's a drunk wreck, but a quiet, self-contained drunk wreck. You dont see that often on TV.
The Maya/Alejandro story was alright, since i know its setting up for something bigger and more awesome. The part with the truck full of dead people was nicely done. I loved how Mohinder's become Bennet's sidekick. I can just imagine him learning epspionage from Bennet over the phone. Matt really grew on me during this episode, especially when he was trying to comfort Molly and offered to go take care of the big baddy. I was like "Didn't you learn your lesson when Sylar put 4 of your own bullets inside of you?" but something about the way Matt is totally confident in his ability to handle anyone or anything (except a written detective test) just endered him to me. Plus, seeing him use telepathy in combat was so cool that i cant wait until he does it for real.
The Peter thing at the end was good too, especially seeing the look on his face after he blasted the thug. I get the feeling that he's going to catch on to his powers much quicker now that he doesnt have those dreams confusing the crap out of him., and since he's gonna have to escape from those Irish thugs eventually. Of course, putting the necklace on him made it easy to figure out what happened for us fans who watch for that stuff.
No Sylar, but i can live with that. 4 eclipses.

Hi all. I'm new here. I gave the season 2 premiere a 3. There wasn't anything that made me want to puke (though the dinner scene came close), and it was overall a fine start, but the episode moved like it was stalling for time. In that way this show reminded me of the season 1 finale. 70% focus on people breathing and cameras pushing in, 30% on cool story and action.
Still a fan, though.

Sep 25 2007, 01:11 AM
I give it 3/5
There were great things in this episode, but also some seriously weak points. The murder plot was great, very well played. Nathans scenes were also extremely good. Hiros story and Mr. Bennet at the office was really funny.
Claire's story took to much time though, and as someone else said the dinner scene should have bean edited out to make room for more Peter for example. The Maya and Alejandro scenes were just annoying, except for the ending that was really good. Parkman and Mohinder fell somewhere in between, not bad but not amazing.
My biggest problem though was that I really didn't feel any excitement until the last three minutes (Sulus death and Peter in Ireland) before that I felt the story was just sort of plodding along. It just didn't feel like the first episode of a new season to me. The objective of any first episode of any season of any series has to be to grab you so that you will return to see the rest of the season. This episode was way to flat on that point. It had very little drive in my opinion.
The last scene with Peter was great though. If it truly is the Haitian who has removed Peter's memories I pray that they will not be gone forever.
"...but the episode moved like it was stalling for time"
Basically your regular episode of "Lost" only a lot better.

I give 5/5.
This episode really showed the diversity of the show. I can't imagine how difficult it is to write and work together all the different stories going on. Not just because they have different characters and settings, but because they have a completely different feel to each of them. Whether we are with Claire at High School having to deal with typical high school drama, in the copy shop with Bennet for some comedy relief, in colorful feudal Japan with a fairytale gone wrong, on a dark roof top in New York all horror movie like, or in Central America with some twins running for their lives, the show is consistantly on it's A game. There is great talent involved in all aspects of this show.

Except for the Dinner scene, which could have been a lot better, I thought that it ran smoothly. I also don't think that they kept up with the promise that somebody could start watching it without watching season 1. They did introduce the charectors ok but it was an definate continuation.

I liked it, although I may of over-rated it. I liked it, but I wanted some Niki and Micah action though I'm guessing we'll get some of that next time. I'll give it a 4. Even after reading all the negative reviews. I thought the
Premiere was awsome. I liked the new characters, and the reset on the old ones

It was above average (which would have been great for any other show

).
I thought it was a bit slow to start with, but it picked up. Obviously Hiro is destined to become Kensei. My impression on the whole Sulu assassination was that he knew he was going to die he tried to take the Hoodie Guy with him. It sure seemed like he grabbed him to pull him over the edge anyway.
Did like the Suresh/Bennet ...er... Butler/Parkman alliance. Did not like the 2 and a Half Heroes plotline - I think I just don't like Molly. Did like the return of subtitles, and the Petrellis (is Nathan scarred or not?)

2 eclipses from me, it wasnt horrible but it was bad.
I didnt like the nathan/peter stories - they are going to have to explain what happened to peter, and how his brother survived a nuclear explosion.
The scene where nathan looked in the mirror was intriguing though.
I also didn't like how hiro's father died (if he died we will see about that soon i hope)

4 out of 5 for me. There were a few weak spots that kept it from being spot on. Here's the highlights:
GOOD: Say what you will, I liked the Noah/Claire story. You have two "special" people trying to be normal and failing horribly. Those who thought the manager at the copy shop was a caricature have never had the pleasure of working for someone like that (I have, and yes I cheered when Noah finally put him on the table). It'll be interesting to see what happens to the rest of the Family Formerly Known As Bennet when the inevitable happens and Noah/Claire get dragged back into the Heroic world.
Did anyone else totally dig Matt's new demeanor and look? Nearly dying seems to have given him a new outlook on life. It's nice to see him taking charge instead of being the whiny cuckold he was for most of the first season. His scenes with Molly were especially touching.
Ah yes, Molly and the mystery evil. We have that, plus we have Maia who could very well kill off the entire state of New York. Add to that the mysterious assasination plot against the Company's founders, and we have plenty to work with this season.
OK: The Kensei storyline was telegraphed. If you honestly expected Takezo to be the hero of legend, you haven't read many comics or watched much TV. It's a classic storyline where the protagonist travels back in time to find out his hero isn't what he thought, so he ends up either being the hero or bringing the legendary person into hero status. Humor helped the scenes, but the formula is there and that makes it less engaging for me.
So Hiro's dad is the first casuality of the season. That sucks. I agree that a bigger fight would have been cooler. But, he apparently knew his assailant so he probably knew he didn't stand a chance. Better to take him over the edge with you than to draw it out and maybe get Ando or Angela killed in the process as well. Still, sucks to see him gone.
BAD: Matt's divorced and Nathan's separated or divorced. Did we have to do the same thing to two characters in the same episode? Which brings me to my major gripe...Nathan's meltdown. I can imagine what happened in the intervening four months. Nathan refused the Congressional position (it was rigged after all) and fell into an alcohol fueled depression (thanks for the inheritance, poppa Petrelli). How hard would it have been to explain that out a little better? Instead, we have him being fuzzy and miserable with no explanation as to why he isn't in Washington.
If they had fleshed out the Nathan story and not made Hiro's story so obvious, I would have gladly given this a 5. However, it was just flawed enough to miss the mark. Still, a slightly flawed episode of Heroes is better than none at all, so I'm happy!
LOOKING AHEAD:
Did the Haitian wipe out Peter's memory to "disarm" him? Did he memory wipe him at all?
Maia y Alejandro are heading to NYC to find Suresh. Does that mean Mohinder may have to "neutralize" her?
Speaking of...what if the virus can be modified? What if it can strip a person's powers without killing them?
Or worse, what if it's made more virulent and kills heroes quickly (Legacy Virus style)?
And finally, if the Company's founders are being targeted, who is after them? Are they in league with the evil entity Molly has been seeing? Will we finally find out the signifcance of the Helix Symbol now that the characters are finally seeing it instead of it being background noise?
Looks like a great season ahead, folks. I'm glad to be back!

I gave it 4/5. I think it's very telling that everyone seems to expect a BIG episode out of every episode of this show. However, I think we need to be realistic about it. This episode's purpose was to set up the rest of the season, not to give us answers, and I think it did that fairly well.
My biggest complaints were against the school scenes with Claire. As always, she's a great actress and looks genuine in every scene, but the scenes themselves seemed really contrived. Enough with the cheerleader drama, please. Please please. And I have to agree, West did seem a little creepy. I hope that was intentional.
On the other hand, I reaaally liked the dinner scene, which many people seemed to dislike. The ordinary, boringness of it was the whole point! It was to show how confined and strained the family is feeling in their new situation.
A more minor complaint was against the Kaito/Ando scenes. I wasn't really fond of Kaito's new personality, although I felt it was a result of 4 months of waiting for his son to return. Also, while I didn't expect them to give us all the answers relating to his apparent death, I couldn't help being a little disappointed by the 'grabbing and jumping off the building' style murder that we've already seen in this series.
Despite my complaints, I felt like overall it was a very successful show, and I couldn't get enough of the Hiro in the past scenes. The dialogue between Hiro and Kensei had the same kind of great chemistry to me that the Hiro/Nathan scenes had last season. I can't wait to see more.
EDIT: Also, isn't it interesting that despite all the bad reviews here, at this point 91% of those voting ranked it 3/5 or better?

I gave it a 3, because I was pretty neutral on it. IMO there were some good things (Molly and Parkman, Angela and Kaito, Hiro, Nathan and Peter) and some annoying things (Claire and West especially, lack of resolution on DL, no Haitian), so it balanced out in that respect.
It's just the first ep, though, so I'm not disappointed. Plenty of time for more goodies.

It was good, I gave it a 4 because it was the first ep. so I think it should get more credit than what it really should of cuz they had to mix in so much and yet hold off on some questions from last season as not to give everything away, but they could of at least given us a bit of a story on what happened with the explosion. I really dont want to have to wait till ep.4 when they go four months back to find out answers to last season, thats 4 weeks away

way too long. Anyway all together I think they did great with the first ep.. oh except for the guy with the trench coat, didn't they do that before... oh yeah it was SYLAR it seems the writers really aren't sure how to introduce new villians how many trench coat villians are there or is it like a Super Villian Group all with matching costumes? ok sorry Im done

I think Season 2 kicked off in stellar fashion! This episode had everything - action, comedy (thanks as usual, Hiro), mystery (who offed Kaito, and what was up with Nathan's reflection?), and intrigue (just what power does Maya have that makes her so dangerous?). Even romance (Claire and Flying Boy - hey, the more screen time Hayden Panettiere gets, the better, IMHO). OK, so not every question was answered, but that's what will keep us coming back for more and more. I already had high expectations for Season 2, and now the bar has been raised even further. Can't wait for episode 2!

Didn't you get the memo? Capes are out of fashion. Trench coats are all the rage this year.

Seriously, though, can you come up with another way to disguise someone that would blend into a crowd? Cloaks are so medieval.

Plus, it's likely that was just a stunt double (like Sylar was the first few eps), and the real person hasn't been cast yet or wasn't available for the scene. Need to make them as nondescript as possible. No biggie to me, I guess.
However, that rooftop is getting notorious for people being tossed off of it. First Peter, now Kaito. If I were on the cast, I'd start getting nervous about shooting scenes there.

Woot first post!
I gave it a 4 as well. It wasn't the best episode of the series, but we have to be understanding that it is an introduction. They added a couple new characters and spent a good bit of time on each of them so it was limited for the returning cast. Maybe it would have been a bit better if they waited to intro the brother and sister next week, or likewise for the Hiro storyline. Personally as someone who cares more about the Petrelli storyline, I would have enjoyed that fleshed out alot more.
The storyline about the founders of the company seems fascinating and will hopefully add more depth to the show.
I've never been a huge Claire fan; that said, Company Man was one of my favorite episodes last year. So I could have done without her having such a huge chunk of the episode, but she probably brings in a whole different viewing audience then most of their characters.
Was that a different power for Peter at the end? It might have just been me, but it looked like the blue fire he had in the five years later episode last year. Could be wrong though.

I was hoping it would answer more questions. I don't want all the answers right away, but I'd hoped it would answer one or two.
Let's see. Peter's alive and amnesiac. Nathan's alive and drunk. The Bennet clan is all alive and in California. Matt's alive and on the NYPD and taking care of Molly.
Oh, and Kensei's a drunken British lout. Poor Hiro

That covers quite a few answers in my book. There's still a couple more (the fate of DL, Sylar, Candace, and the Haitian) but I think we got past a lot of the big ones.
