I am curious what her powers are? I get that they are some form of Mental power, but just what could they be.

Also do you think her brother has a power? Maybe hes a speedster and thats why he made the comment about "Slowing him down"

Your thoughts?
Dr. Chaos
Last week's online comic gives the impression that it's a virus of sorts.

And Alejandro seems to have some sort of power that supresses it.

That's the impression I got from the comic. I think that the virus is the same one that's killing people with abilities. Perhaps she will be able to cure them of it?
YoShIe
Appeared to me that she's a "Typhoid Mary". I also have to wonder if her twin brother has some sort of countering effect, because they both seemed so concerned about being separated.
Trihan
That's the impression I got. Maya carries the virus, and Alejandro contains it as long as he's in proximity to her.
steve2112
Well the spoilers alluded to these 2 being like the "wonder twins" in some way so I guess for now they're connected. When the bro is around she doesn't kill people..

I know one thing though.. She's a hottie so I hope Mohinder can help her. Having the brother around all the time is a bit like being the 5th wheel.. Hahaha!

Nope, sorry. Mohinder states at the very beginning in his lecture that the virus attacks those who carry the genetic code for advancement. Bob can only merely speculate that it could potentially mutate and become a threat to the primary populace.

That aside, Maya's power doesn't exactly leave people bed-ridden for a while if you catch my drift.

But bob works for the company. He probably knows more than we do.
Maby she is the mutated virus that only effects "normal" people.
Snxke
I'll say Maya is litteraly the virus while Alejandro is the antibody.
prander
Were they saying something about her doing this when she gets scared? If so, when she becomes scared, she may secrete some kind of chemical or something that is deadly to people (with no powers?).

So is her brother "the antibody" or "the antidote" or a suppressant of some kind or is he the only person she's really comfortable around (esp. being twins) and the only person who keeps her from being scared (by not being separated)?
themightytruk
I think Alejandro may be more than just an antibody to Maya's virus. Perhaps he has a power-blocking ability similar to the Haitian. Maybe he can block more than just Maya's power. I guess we'll have to watch and see.

Could be...

On the other hand, if they're "the wonder twins," then it would seem their powers go hand in hand and are specific to each other.

LOL
Hopfully she lives to be a main character. I hope Candace lives to, but I know she will die. That sucks because she is hott to dry.gif

Perhaps she 'infects' and he 'heals' whatever it is she does. Without her, his power isn't obvious, but without him she's lethal. He's life, she's death. Yin Yang, so on and so forth.

What gets me is the POTENTIAL this storyline has. If you haven't been keeping up with the Graphic Novels or paying attention to Wireless then you haven't seen the track of destruction these two siblings have left in their wake. Dozens if not hundreds have died, and that's just from them coming through small villages and towns. Her ability kills EVERYONE around her.

Now...imagine what would happen if Maia was alone in a big city, like NYC for example. Things happen. People get separated, hurt, or even killed. If Alejandro is taken out in some fashion, what happens to all the people near Maia?

Forget Sylar, Molly's boogeyman, or even the bomb from S1. THIS is a major "oh crap" plotline. One of our Heroes may be forced to make the decision to kill her just to save the world.

I have to say that one epi in I'm not impressed by the Maya storyline - hoping it will become better as the season goes on like Niki's did.

yea i agree. the whole illegal immigrants battling corrupt coyotes story isnt very inspired.
i think they might be trying to reach out to a larger US demographic by having scenes
in spanish (i myself am spanish) but they did it in the most cliched way possible.

their plan is to see Mohinder, so why are they sneaking in?
cant they just take a plane to NYC like every other tourist in the world?
i guess the assumption is that they dont have the money or passports
to visit normally?

not a big deal.

hmm... I have to totally and completley disagree with you. But maybe it's because I've been following their story line since Hana's blog. I like the fact that they put huge issues such as illegal immigration and mixed it with the issues in the show such as having a deadly power.
I'm very interested in these two characters, I really hope we see more, but I know we will biggrin.gif

It looks like she has the abiltiy to break down the human body on some degree

Breaking Blood vessels or clotting blood

Trust me, I have too. Just hasn't capture me yet. mellow.gif

As for the illegal immigration issue - I'm not touching that with a pole of any length too hot a topic for my area right now and I don't want it to blow up here too. unsure.gif

I'm still holding out hope that it will swing around like the Niki/Jessica story line did. At the end of last season I was totally with the awsomeness of Niki. cool.gif

Didja' miss the part where they're wanted for murder? wink.gif Even if they have the money/passports, I can't see any airline just selling them tickets and allowing them to fly into the US -- and flying into NYC (of all places) as a wanted murderer might be especially difficult to do.

I'm still going with my theory of Maya having the blood drain power.

[[[FTH- I hate your sig]]]

but all that besides, why do you think she drains blood?

Well, the bodies seemed pale and colorless. Also, there was a lot of blood around the eyes, nose, and mouth areas.

Now, as anyone who watches/watched Firefly knows, the Alliance's scientists used that little device to kill people by removing all of their blood from their system.

I'm just kind of guessing Maya can do something similar.
kitty
hmmmm...never seen Firefly, but I don't think the discoloration is that bad. Just shows they're dead. I think they'd be a bit more shrivled if they had the blood sucked out of them.

I really like this idea. I was thinking maybe she somehow explodes their brain and/or other organs, but this sounds more reasonable. Glad I came across this.
AppleQB
I got the idea it was a straight poison and not a virus, But *shrug* I could definitely be wrong.
aulduron
According to the GN, they are twins, and they call what she does, both poison and a virus
