Full Version: So Peter is able to use his powers through memory
9th Wonders Boards > Episode Discussions > Season Two > 2.2: Lizards
ReTodd
Peter uses his powers by remembering the people he took them from, or by remembering how he felt about them or something. He told Claude as much in season 1.

So now he's got amnesia, and he's still using his powers.

Please to be explaining.

(Sorry if this has been posted already).

This has already been discussed in the episode discussion. Pretty much, Peter must have not been exactly right when he said that. Claude had thought that to use the powers Peter would have to eliminate the distractions to use his power. Perhaps with his cluttered emotions, Peter had to focus on one person to use his or her power, but now that his mind is clear of these "distractions" now his powers are triggered by instinct.

yeah i guess there are different ways people access their powers.. for claude he had to detach himself from everything. unclutter himself.. as for the old peter he had to remember but now that he is like lost his memory he basically does what claude did before.. i guess

Perhaps that's why somebody mind-wiped him. To unclutter his mind so his powers would be triggered by instinct instead of emotion. So basically they are making him into a more efficient weapon.

So, you all are saying is that earlier his emotions toward people he met limited what powers he could use. Now, he is using the power the way it is actually activated, by thinking of what he wants to do and that power comes forth. We did have a discussion once where we seperated powers into automatic <healing>, defensive <invisibility> , and offensive <power bolt>. I was thinking that he might be able to do one of each at a time. ie invisible while enhanced hearing while shooting bolts. Now this might be far fetched but we were discussing if he can perform different powers at one time.

Well, I'm all for the part where Peter forgets how much of a coward he usually is and actually goes in and gets to business without the standing around and not knowing what to do. I like the idea his powers are triggered by instinct now.

But, there is still the flaw where his radioactive power will be triggered out of the blue and he'll go boom again. Peter should have learned how to control the radioactive power first then the Haitian should have mind wiped every other memory except the memory of control over the radioactivity and that way the "exploding man" thing would be completely removed from being used again as a plot device. New season, new stories meaning no more exploding man BS.

using his powers as and when he needs to seems to give him more of a selection , needs must so to speak. If he can't remember all the things he worried about before he won't/shouldn't go boom , get a bit of zen in your life pete !

but you then have the flipside, that peter will now get nearly too powerful, gonna be tricky to have him in a situation he can't get out of..unless he goes back to his old ways, which leads me nicely to...

hordak, have you changed you opinion on old peter ? hah ! never thought i'd see the day !

I'm hoping now that Peter went boom with the radioactive powers that they burnt themselves out and that Peter won't have them anymore.

Hey maybe no one mindwiped him at all. What if his memory is connected to his hair and now that he got a haircut, he can't remember anything! laugh.gif

Well hopefully that mindwipe made him forget that he had them and when he discovers that he does, hopefully he can control them better and he's not such an emo kid.

Well, let's just say I'm starting to lean more towards a positive outlook when it comes to Peter, especially when he promptly dealt with those thugs. There wasn't any emo "deer caught in the headlights" looks, no standing around not knowing what to do, or any of that crap.

That best part was, when Peter got punched in the face,he ACTUALLY PUNCHED THE GUY BACK. *ding ding ding ding ding ding**

"Rod, tell Peter what prize he has won."

" Peter Petrelli, you've just won A PORTION OF HORDAK ALPHA'S FAN RESPECT BACK!! As an added bonus, Mr. Hordak Alpha will refrain from bad mouthing you on the 9TH WONDER FAN FORUMS!!!"

So, yeah, I guess my opinion on Peter IS changing. Just as long as Peter continues on the path he is on, I won't have any more to gripe about when it comes to him. I'm also happy that Peter brought about the first decent action/conflict scene I've ever seen on Heroes. Bravo! I never thought I'D see the day when such a thing were possible, especially after the dismal scene with how Kaito's "death" was handled.

Peter seemed to have the same line of thinking as in 5YG so he had to start someplace. If you look at that Peter, he did go into hiding because he had powers and the government started imprisoning the people with special powers to protect normal people.

Peter has simply attained a level of unconscious competency with his powers. Having attained that level of control, as was suggested he would by 'BP' during the discussions of same in Season One, it is now natural for Peter to unleash his powers at-will. He no longer need make the conscious effort. It's just that simple.

Yay! I'm glad good old Pete gained another fan's respect! I've always loved his character but the emo hair and the overly dependent attitude kills me...He's always, "Nathan would know what to do" but now that he doesn't remember Nathan, he's become a real man who could stand up with his own two feet...He now knows how to defend himself and be confident with his powers! Yay for Pete!
