I'm currently looking for feedback/suggestions on the Character section and its sub-forums. It's current set up looked "good on paper", but I don't think it's really working out as intended.

So...I'm looking for ways to improve or change it and will even consider removing it altogether (and moving the threads to General Discussion).
Post your thoughts here. Thanks!

This suggestion may be somewhat crude with a little bulkiness potential, but it just might work. Here goes:
Sort character threads into forums alphabetically by last name, putting those without a last name plus the miscellaneous other ones in a forum of their own and Sylar and his threads in their own forum. Could get 28 forums, but it'd be easy to find a character.

I think its time to seperate out all the charachters out seperately by name instead of "the Petrellis" do it by "Nathan Petrelli, Peter Petrelli, Monty Petrelli (son of Nathan) etc. "each is going to have a sub-forum though.
Could you should be a bit more specific about the problems you're having? Why do you want to merge the Charachters into General Discussion? How would that help?

For some reason I've been having issues with the forum in terms of creating new topics. When I try to create one, it just disappears after. In general, I think it might be a good idea to just remove the character forums all together and just discuss people in the general forum.

I like the character forum, but it needs to be updated. There's no section for the new characters. And is it really nessicary to keep the old topics about the old (dead) characters?

The Character forum has gone through a few changes in the last year.
"Version 1"
At the "very beginning" it was an open forum pretty much like any other forum on the boards. People would start multiple threads on the same topics, and there were complaints that it was all very disorganized with duplicate/repetitive threads.
"Version 2"
Because of the complaints, the "original" forum was shut down, and in its place was a forum where there was a thread made for each character and no new threads could be created, so all topics relating to those characters had to be discussed in the given threads.
"Version 3" (current version)
Much like how each of the episodes can't be discussed in a single thread, it was always my thought that it was too hard to discuss different topics related to a character in a single thread. So to open things up and to allow for more threads, but in a somewhat organized fashion, sub-forums were created, but it had the stipulation that new threads created were subject to moderator approval. Through a combination of factors, the approval process has not run as smoothly as originally anticipated, so as of this moment, that setting has been turned off.

I don't know that its necessary to have separate forum set up for individual characters. I think some would argue that doing so would make things "too separated" and hard to find. I seem to recall similar complaints when the Heroes 360 forums were first set up as separate sub-forums.

I was thinking that keeping the family forum/sub-forum setup is best. Storylines and alliances will likely change with each volume but families are relatively stable (no pun intended :-)). Here is an outline - I believe all current and previous characters will fit somewhere within one of these.
Petrelli
Nakamura
Bennet
Suresh
Parkman
Sanders/Hawkins/Dawson (rename Niki, DL, Micah)
Herrera
Sylar and Victims
The Company
Mix It Up (Other, Dead, etc)
Isaac and Simone should be moved to Mix It Up.
Linderman Group move to The Company
