What REALLY confused me is how quickly the two realized it was a painting on the future.
"Is that us?" Well obviously it's not, since you two have never been to montreal, have you?
"The plane ticket, the picture, it's all coming together" -- WHAT is coming together? It's one thing to note how strange the coincidence is that the picture might have taken place in montreal, but the natrual assumption would be that Peter had been there in the past with some other chick and had a return flight to Montreal, NOT that the painting is of the future and 'we're supposed to go to Montreal'
That was weak sauce, one part in which compressing storylines is counterproductive.

I'm guessing the two people are Peter an Caitlin...
and I'm pretty positive the two streets were St. Laurent and St. Jacques... would make sense, I live in montreal and those two streets meet right in front of the court house, in the area between the old port and downtown...

It was the helix. In the previews for next week, I thought I saw them actually in front of the door. It was definately the helix over the door.
I thought Montreal was a red herring though. New Orleans seems like a more logical place now that Suresh is there too. Seems like NO is this season's NYC when it comes to "where everyone will eventually meet."

I don't think they were actually shooting in Montreal, when the World Tour was in Toronto, they mentioned Canada being part of a story line, but made a point to add that, of course, they weren't actually gonna be shooting up here, since Heroes production is completely LA-based.
but then again, I guess anything's possible

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre-Dame_de...3%A9al_BasilicaIf it was in New Orleans it would have "rue" (street) in French on top of it on the sign. If it's Montreal, that's pretty neat since I've actually been there twice and it's an awesome city. =)

They do occasionally film on location, so maybe they did scout around in Montreal. I know like a ton of movies are filmed there. Sometimes you just can't get the same feeling on a set either. And not much in LA looks like Canada. Well, I guess they're going on a road trip!

Very cool.
Here's a link to a Google Maps Hybrid; you'll note that due to the positioning of Notre-Dame Basillica and the fact Saint-Jacques ends at the Palais de Justice, they're taking a little literary license to extend Saint-Jacques past Saint-Laurent, and the building with the helix symbol is where the real-life Palais de Justice is.

I think it's just a way to place a building in Montreal without referencing a real one. Consider that the street they are standing on (Saint-Jacques east of Saint-Laurent) doesn't exist, as it too is where the real-life Palais de Justice is.
Then again, with these writers..

If you look closely at the street signs, St. Laurent is very clear while the other sign is a little blurred. "Jacques" has 7 letters and this sign only has five letters in the name. I'm not sure what this means, but we could be chasing a red herring. I've never been to Montreal and I mean no offense to those who live there and others who are saying the picture has to be in Montreal, but the names and the letters on the sign do not match up. It could just be an error on the part of the writers, but I have to wonder.....? Are they in Montreal or could this be somewhere else?
Dreadman
Oct 22 2007, 11:19 PM
The street signs
definitely read:
" Blvd
Saint-Laurent"
and:
" Rue
Saint-Jaque"
So yeah, they did forget the 'c' and 's' on 'Jacques'. Just thought i'd reassure everyone.

Peter painted the scene to a specific location in Montreal. Plus, he had a passport and a one-way ticket for Montreal. Why, eh?

Actually this corner does exist. It's about 4 blocks from my apartment. The view is a little different from there but I'll be happy to take a picture of the real thing if anyone is interested. The crew was here in August or September during the World Tour doing location scouting or somthing.

Weird that they would pick an actual intersection (sorta) when the view in the painting actually seems to be a block away - more like St. JaCqueS and St. Urbain/Place des Armes.
I see two people walking towards them from the direction of the Basilica?

Oct 23 2007, 06:17 AM
Well, I am proud to say I am from Montreal and used to work mere blocks from the church depicted in Peter's newest painting. It is a very famous touristic attraction here in our fair city!
The church portrayed is quite obviously the Basilica Notre-Dame. The producers have taken a bit of artisitic license and have portrayed famous street names in Montreal instead of the actual street corner near the Basilica.
The intersection in Peter's painting is Blvd. St-Laurent and Rue St-Jacque (mispelled as it should be Jacques).
If you go to the actual Basilica in Montreal and look at it from the street corner portrayed in the painting. The real intersection would be Rue St-Sulpice and Rue Notre-Dame. If I remember correctly, the building the characters in the painting are standing in front of is actually a really crappy souvenir shop that sells moose plushies, Canadian flag key chains and 'Good girls go to heaven, Bad girls go to Montreal' t-shirts. Lol!
Note: The streets Blvd. St-Laurent and Rue St-Jacques do indeed intersect in Montreal. But they intersect at the Palais de Justice and not the Basilca Notre-Dame. And unless you have a court date, not really an attraction at all. Interestly though, they are only a few blocks apart.
Here are some links of the Basilica on Wikipedia and the location using google maps to show you the locations. I hope this has helped everyone iron out the legitmacy that the claims that the painting is indeed of Montreal, Canada!

Did none of you watch the preview at the end of the show? For the sake of those who don't want to know what is coming, I wrap this in spoiler tags:
Peter and Caitlyn are shown looking at the painting and they pull it down to reveal they are standing in front of the same building. So it is a picture of them in front of this building and why would it be anywhere else than Montreal when they pretty much suggested that? If they thought it was Montreal, they would have gone there and lo and behold, we see them in front of the same building.
Now the question is who will they find there and why is there a helix over the door? Perhaps it is a company safe house.
