The nightmare man is truly a nightmare man! I know physically he doesn't look too intimidating, but his ability is more than intimidating. Maury is a very powerful man. But I have a question as it pertains to his ability. Now, it appears he is a very strong telepath making people see things that aren't actually happening. Presumably, he can use this ability from a distance (i.e., Molly Walker). But when Maury said he "had something to show Matt," and Matt followed, did those doors physically close, or did Maury just make Matt think the doors closed?

I only ask because if the doors did actually close, then this would imply that Maury also has some sort of TK ability too. I'm pretty sure the doors did close, because Nathan was not in the "nightmare" yet until he broke down one of the doors. What does everyone else think?

no TK needed. he still had both hands. and some doors even have a thingie to make them swing shut

but anyway, i think the door was indeed really closed. which is why Nathan had to break in

lol wtf, he walked into the door and matt walked in, as soon as matt got in he closed the door...no TK

When I rewatched it, I think they showed the same door closing, twice. I never saw a second door, from the inside.

The door did shut twice. I believe that was done for dramatic effect. TV and movies do that all the time. Like when someone gets shot and they show it over and over again from different angles?

Ohhh...I didn't catch that. Thanks for clearing that up. I was rather confused.

yea i think he just shut the door behind Matt and focused on him to put him in Nightmare land, once his nightmare was going he let Nathan break in and started him in his own nightmate. At first I wondered why he needed to bring them in the other room to put them in the nightmare, but looking back i guess it was just so that they were confined and wouldnt thrash the entire place and would definitely end up fighting each other. I'm still not sure that he would have been able to put them in the nightmare had they all just stayed in the lving room though.

I think the transition from reality to nightmare was intentionally ambiguous for dramatic effect.

They sort of fade out of reality just like they fade back into reality when Parkman figures out what is really happening.

Did they ever leave the room? Or was the nightmare effect already starting from the point where Maury said he had something to show Matt?

it looked like as soon as the door shut behind matt in the back room and he was in darkness the dream started, same with nathan, as soon as he was in total darkness the dream started.

At the end, when they come awake, I'm pretty sure they are in the first room where they sat down with Maury. This would indicate that he had already put them in the nightmare before he got up and took matt into the next room. Also, when they wake up the door in the background is CLOSED which it wouldn't be if Nathan had broken it down...

I don't think he can generally use his ability from great distances. I think Molly's power in finding people no matter where they are, is what provides the initial link for him to do his stuff. I think without that he would probably have to be fairly close. Although how close I couldn't say. Matt read a word from Noah's mind when he was definitely out of ear-shot in season one.
