This is an opinion thread! Do not bicker or make counter arguments if you disagree with someone else's review, or else! sliced.gif

As usual, I wasn't sold on a lot of the developments. I didn't buy Noah shooting that guy. It was just too much. I also really am bored with Hiro's story. Today, it was soap opera -- he's kissing Kensei's girl and oh well there he is 20 feet away watching them angrily. This is enough to turn him evil, OK.

Oh, and Mohinder, "I'm leaving and I'm taking Molly." Cut to like a few hours later and he's still there without having taken Molly yet. Great let me just reveal my intentions and smash this glass and then chill out for a few hours before I leave.

Probably some other stuff that bugged me but I'll just stop there. 3/5.
delusions_of_grandeur
4 out of 5..probably would've given it a 5, but..I just gotta steer clear of the spoiler threads! LOL
lauryn
i thought it was great.. But Hiro's story.. needs to end.. NOW! I love Kensei.. but omg Hiro.. NO!
sacha88
I thought the episode had some weak spots, i'm not that fond of the whole claire/wes story but the last 20 minutes really saved this episode for me. The really H.R.G is back! I think that Bennet being more of a bad guy with understandable motives works a lot better then him being all bad or all good. 3.5/5 for me
Aerdna
3/5...actually that's too harsh.

more like 3.5/5.

I just felt like it was lagging most of the time, until the end. The Hiro storyline? Ugh. And how selfish was it of Claire to do all of that just to cover her ungrateful little ******? It was amusing when the cops caught Debbie with the alcohol, but that whole scheme was just juvenile.
parky
the only thing memorable about this episode was the prank that claire and west pulled on debbie, which was pretty amusing. hiro's and maya's storylines have just sucked this entire season and this episode didn't help, it felt like the same thing all over again. HRG in ukraine was random... overall it felt like a filler episode thats setting up next week's ep, which looks like it will be pretty cool (another 5YG?) suresh and Niki should be nice too.

I'm, like, in shock at some of the negative comments... my review, reposted as per Admin Ordahs:

Yeah... this thread is for former naysayers... here were my problems with the second season:
  • Lack of Emphasis on the MAIN STORYLINE of the season, y'know, the POINT
  • Too many characters (not enough deaths and retirements to compensate for new characters and guest stars going to main cast)
  • Keeping Fan Favorites pointlessly front and center
Episode 4 started to get me warmed up, and it apparently tided me over until this episode, and MAN, what an episode it was... I mean, how many great things did we get?

ALL of the storylines moved forward SUBSTANTIALLY. They ALL worked.
  • Look at how far Caitlin and Peter's storyline crawled heretofore... look at how it FLEW today, they got to montreal AND to the Future, to actually give us the MAIN problem for the season. YES! (Who cares if they had no reason to think the painting could possibly be from the future... enough good stuff balances that out)
  • Monica not only crosses paths with the company, with all our favorites (and I was really scared they were going to kill her, that would have been stupid), but then they full equipped her and put her FIRMLY on the road to becoming St. Joan... YES!
  • HRG! HRG! HRG! HRG! Who is the man, whose a badass in some foreign lands... HRG (yeah) Who is the man, interogating his mentor man... HRG! (yeah) HRG is one bad mutha (shut-yo-mouth) I'm only talking bout HRG (I can dig it)
  • Claire and West's gratuitous use of powers actually makes sense for their age and strangely makes them more interesting. Also, West is yet again clearly evil... how the heck does flying make parental guidance a non-factor, exactly? Even money says he's with the Company.
  • We finally have a CLEAR picture of exactly what Sylar's about... he's been all ambiguous... is he trying to be good... no no... he's going to kill them as soon as it profits him to be so... that's a great
  • And with our answers, we get a BRAND NEW MYSTERY: YESSSS! Don't string out the same old stuff, end the old stuff satisfactorily and bring in the new... YESSSSSSSSSSSS. Adam Monroe... who care if we've never heard the name before, well dropped and well built upon.
  • Niki and Mohinder partners for the Company... a Company that is, with the death of Linderman and the arrest of Angela, running a completely different ruleset. Now THAT is what's up. Go Bob! Yeah! What does that mean? That means HRG and Mohinder taking the company out could be a bad thing if the Company is actually helping people... moreover, what if the Company isn't even after HRG and the only problem is his paranoia. OHHH!
  • Hiro and Takezo actually advancing... and incredibly so. It's so twisted, I really can't imagine how they're going to fix this one... but they're sure going to try, and that's going to be great TV... cuz they do have to fix it... don't they?
  • All of this in ONE Episode. Dear Gosh, if they had spread this goodness out I wouldn't have had to hate this season up to this point. I was really scared guys, looking at the drop in quality from S1 to S2 seemed like a death knell for the show to me... now? It looks like we're recovering and getting back to what makes the show actually AWARD Winning: An Epic Storyline, interconnected lives and hard choices for normal people in extraordinary situations. OWNAGE. Thank you Tim Kring, thank you all of you guys. YOU ROCK!
  • You have a fan back... I wear my Haitian-styled "Snake and Crane" necklace with pride now.

4.5/5, easy.

p.s. Did you notice how we don't need Nathan and Matt for the show to be incredible? Just saying.
Replicants
2/5. Very boring episode which is saved by the shocking end.
dxgarten
Yeah, not that impressed with this one either. The whole Claire/West thing could be avoided if the writers just show her making it to the cheerleading squad in the premiere episode. I hope this latest development regarding Kensei will mean that Hiro will be getting out of that suckhole. Peter and Caitlin still don't do much at all. If it wasn't for the virus revelation at the end, this would be a bust.

I gave it a 4 for all the reasons that Justin elaborated on so well, usually saving "5" for shows like Company Man and the like. Thanks, Justin for taking the time to do that. I don't get it when people say the show is boring. I really don't. I sit at the edge of my seat for each and every episode never knowing which direction the story will turn. I think it's sort of unfair to rate episodes individually, since the stories are long threads best thought of as a whole. Tonight all those threads moved forward making me more eager for the next installment and already excited about sitting down with the next boxed set of DVD's when they come out.
nodame
This is like a step back after last week's episode progress. If it's not because of the ending, it'd have been as bad as the 3rd episode.
SuperT
I loved this episode because it advanced pretty much everyone's storyline except, Claire's again.

I prefer the writing to this season, then to last seasons, although last season was a lot more fun. This season is a lot more dark and cerebral, and that's what I love about it.

I'd rather have a nice, slow, indepth build up to an awesome finale, then all the mini-runs and shockers that lead up to something mediocre.
guy
Wow, I guess I was in the wrong forum. I was swept by Peter-mania in another forum. This episode was boring. to reiterate

Hiro/Kensai/Yaeko = Lame storyline
HRG/Haitian = Forced and contrived storyline
Peter/Caitlin = boring, boring, boring --> wow a devastated NYC, haven't seen that before rolleyes.gif
Suresh/Bob/Monica = the best storyline in this episode
Claire/West = every scene I wondered:what happened to the Claire with the sad-smile?from ep1 this one sucks
Maya/Alejandro/Sylar = Predictable, but did have some purely ingenious (and evil) Sylar lines.
guy
ok I know this is not a reply to former messages but...

all I have to say is ouch... way to say my favorite storyline is not needed
sickotriz
3/5, and I'm being generous here.

1) Claire/West storyline is unbelievably lame. I don't need to see crappy cheerleader storyline rehash. And I really, really don't like West. I know they're probably going to make him evil or whatever. He didn't say anything when his parents were mentioned. Claire just seems unbelievably stupid and gullible at this point.

2) Kensei/Hiro storyline is wtftastic. I WTF'd at the bizarro night to day transition that happened between them going into the princess's father's tent, and the cutting of the chain-->exiting the tent. I WTF'd at Hiro teleporting away in the middle of the battle, but moments later was spied on by Kensei. I WTF'd as Kensei made the fastest heel turn ever... he sees Hiro kiss the princess, and somehow allies with White Beard in an insanely short amount of time. How does that work?

3) Sylar's scenes were cool, as always.

4) I don't buy HRG killing the guy to make it look like a "home invasion"... especially after he got is prints over everything while ransacking the room!

5) I liked Niki... she makes me uncomfortable because I feel like she could wig out and rip Suresh in half at any moment.

6) Glad Peter is out of Ireland... but we have another ruined NY storyline to deal with? I know it's probably on a worldwide scale this time, but it seems odd to be doing this right now. It at least looks interesting, I will hold judgement until I see more.
hulkamania85
5 "tubettes" out of 5. smile.gif

Heroes finally looks to be back on track. This episode was really exciting.

We had Kensei apparently turning bad. We had HRG brushing with the dark side again. We have another disaster the Heroes have to stop, except this time it's way bigger, we go from .07% of the population to 93%! We had Mohinder acting badass and telling Bob to take that job and shove it.

The Claire plot wasn't so great, but it didn't drag the episode down that much.

I don't think most of the people in here saw the same episode. You guys are hard to impress.
earthtomars
I gave it a 'three out of five' rating.

Something I realized during this episode is that if this were the first season, I wouldn't keep watching. The plot is controlling the characters, as opposed to the characters driving the plot forward. It's not pretty. Plus a lot of stuff just doesn't make sense, and the special effects are just baaaaad now. Did the sfx budget get cut in half this season? Enough green screen already!

Why did HRG need to kill that guy? Because once the Company noticed the memory loss they'd trace it back to the Haitian and then somehow miraculously associate the Haitian with HRG, and then miraculously know where the Bennets are hiding out? It's much less subtle to freaking MURDER the guy? This plot point made no sense. I get what the writers were trying to do with HRG, but this didn't work for me.

Claire is just annoying now. It's the same actress and the character has the same name and abilities, but aside from that it's an entirely different girl than last year's Claire.

The Hiro storyline is so ridiculously boring and obsurd...

I don't like the black-eye-death-crying-twins and their storyline either, but Sylar is pretty great. Quinto just oozes charisma.

I found myself getting very bored with Peter/Caitlin's story too, but the end of the episode was interesting, if not similar to last year.

The Mohinder/Niki thing was interesting.

The main storyline I'm interested in this season is the Matt/Nathan one and they left it out of this episode, so boo to that.

Please get better Heroes. Please please please. I know you have it in you.
Cheesemaker
4 out of 5.
I liked the Peter thing, sort of enjoyed Hiro's thing, really liked Mohinder's storyline, the Return of Jessica, Monica, Noah and the Haitian being their usual awesome selves. The Sylar/Maya storyline is funky, but I like it. Claire's story continues to suffer bad writing. sad.gif
The episode was far better than I thought it would be. I had thought it would just be filler, but there were some great moments.
AlterEgo
I thought this was a great episode. Very dark and evil themed almost.

The Hiro story line as usual was dragging and the only thing that keeps me intrested is the commercial after it. I know somehow it will play a part in the big picture, but seriously, come on...

Claire and West really didn't serve a purpose in this episode. I mean yeah we get to see the darker side of a Hero, but did we really need to see it? Besides West creeps me out everytime I see him onscreen with Claire anywayz. Like he's gonna just flip out and (try to) kill her.

Mohinder, Monica, Bob, and Niki was by the far the best arc in this ep. Especially Niki, but I'm bias...
These character's stories seem to be the fastest moving arcs (with the exception of Matt and Nathan), and they revealed not too much but enough to keep us informed and guessing.

Noah aka H.R.G. story didn't do much for me until he found the paintings. Then I got excited and tried to piece together the puzzle. This arc still keeps me intrested cause I want to know how/if he dies.

Peter and...what's her face, is a mysterious (yet almost predictable story arc) that seems to be creating a snow ball effect. It starts off slow, but gradually it becomes bigger and faster and more intresting. Plus with him discovering his powers all over again makes you wonder what he's gonna do next?

But altogether, I gave it 5 out of 5, just cause I'm glad to see SO MUCH story move forward, character's finally embracing their powers, and the return of the famous cliffhanger endings.

I loved Mohinder's reaction to Niki, it was interesting.

It's like he was playing the part of us, the viewer and trying to size up who exactly she thinks she is today.

My vote went towards 3/5. It was a quality episode but definitely didn't have any ground breaking moments.
RogueDemonhunter
3/5 from me but it woulda been 4 IF Nate and Matt had been there.

What?! I'm entitled to my opinion. wink.gif
Gelert
3/5.. another solid episode. happy.gif
JadeDestiny
I think the episode would have been better with more of Nathan and Matt's storyline. I liked the episode overall, but could have done without the whole Cheerleaders as "Mean Girls" bit.
EdensDemise
It was okay.

Not my favorite by far. A lot of stuff seemed forced to me.

First of all, what is Montreal like, the smallest place on earth. Peter sure happened to find the exact door he was looking for really quickly.

The HRG stuff seemed really forced. The scene was either cut badly or the whole thing was just wack.

I'm actually liking Maya when Alejandro does nothing but sit in the back seat. I've been over him since day one. Those scenes were good though.

LOVED the Hiro/Kensei stuff. I don't think his switch was as quick as some people say it was. Honestly, what, a few days ago he wasn't the best guy to begin with. He just reverted back to his old ways.

So yeah, it was okay.

4/5 Not gonna give an episode a 5 cuz to me that would be no flaws, and that won't happen in a show this big...

As to the above, we only saw him and Caitlin decide to leave Cork for Montreal, and them arrive at the door, nothing more of their journy, because it wasn't important in anyway, (to those who say the same of other scenes, all I can say is they were put there for a reason, even if we don't get it yet). Not to mention, it's right in front of the Notre Dame, an they did have a street corner to base it on. Probably not the hardest building to find.

I thought this was the best episode of season two so far. There were plenty of surprises and amazing scenes. It reminded me of the episode in season one (Hiro's, I think?) where future Hiro stopped time to deliver a message to Peter. It was that episode that made me realize Heroes was an extraordinary tv show and hooked me on the first season. The Line has got Heroes back on track and I expect amazing things from here on out, now that we're done with the introductory fluff.

4/5. I liked the episode.

GPS is an amazing thing. Allows for you to find intersections (the street signs were right there) really quickly...

4/5.

It really really ****** me off how people can't see two feet in front of their face with this show, nor take the time to actually piece stuff together themselves.

1) It seemed forced that HRG would kill Ivan? Really? When we KNOW he still works with the Company, and they'd DEFINITELY find out his memory was wiped, which would obviously lead to the Haitian. The same Haitian that's been partners with HRG for years. The same Haitian that "wiped" Mohinder's memory (which the Company knows about) and then disappeared? And, according to the Company, HRG ALSO disappeared? Look at this from the Company's perspective:

a) Employee who doesn't want to give up daughter disappears.
cool.gif Employee's partner is healed of a disease, and then disappears.
c) Russian Guy, who TRAINED Employee, winds up with his memory wiped. Which is something only Employee's Partner can do.

Oh yeah, it's totally farfetched that that would make them think of Bennet, right? Jesus..

2) Peter found the building fast? What did you want them to do? Show Peter getting a drink on the plane? Waiting in line for his luggage at the airport? Trying to speak French to the cab driver? It's a 42-minute show. THINGS NEED TO BE CONDENSED.

3) Kensei storyline. Let's imagine, for half a second, that where Hiro teleported to WASN'T 300 miles away. Maybe it was a patch of grass right outside White Beard's camp. Maybe Kensei noticed they went missing after the gun was fired and figured he should go looking for them. Should find out what happened. Then he sees it, just a few feet away, and goes to find White Beard about switching alliances. Not sold on that? Let's consider something here:
a) You love a woman. Not like. Love.
cool.gif You have a guy who is a really, really good friend of your's.
c) You later find said woman, who you love, cheating on you with said friend.
d) You feel betrayed. Not just by your friend, but by this woman too, who you'd been risking everything for just to find her father.
e) Betrayal leads to hatred. You want to hurt them. You already know what both of them care about, which is the following, according to you:
i) Friend cares about space-time continuum and your woman.
ii) Woman cares about friend and father.
g) So what do you do? You set out to destroy all that.

If you don't see how that's a logical progression of events, you've either never had your heart broken, are not a man, or are stupidly illogical.

Now that that's cleared up, onto the timeline for that. Kensei switched sides awfully fast? I guess you didn't hear the line where Hiro says he's been looking for Kensei for HOURS. I'd think hours is enough time to make a deal with White Beard, wouldn't you? Hell, I'd say 20 minutes is enough, especially when both parties already agree on everything. Ever had a conversation with someone who agrees with everything you think?
YOU: I think A about X.
GUY: I agree.
END OF CONVERSATION

4) Oh noes, it was selfish of Claire to use her and her boyfriend's powers to avoid getting caught. Hold on a second, where does it say Claire can't be selfish? Where does it say anyone in the entire universe can't be selfish? Aren't these characters supposed to mirror real people, insofar as their personalities, at least? Everyone has flaws. People are stupid. OMGZ, she made a decision you don't agree with. Come on now...

All I can think of for right now.

I know that people have had issues with NYC being the center of the tradgedy again. But look at it like this.

Hiro told us last season that he kept trying to save Charlie but he couldn't. This is a round about way of saying that no matter how often you try to avert disaster, it can keep coming...especially if you just get tired and give up like Hiro did. They saved NYC from "the bomb" in Nov 2006 but now there's a virus running around in 2008. To continually use NYC is not just hitting a reset in the sense of not being creative, it's to actually show some continuity about saving this city from disaster.

Actually, the virus is a global problem. New York just happens to be the place they show up.
