I think that this storyline is getting, at least a little interesting...

but I just have a question and i hope someone can answer... was there ever a point in the storyline of alejandro saying that he cannot understan english.?

i mean.. it kinda bugs me.. cuz.. the whole maya/alejandro/sylar sidestory is a little boring.. but.. didnt they understand that guy that stole Claire's Car when he said that he has a car.. i mean.. he did say that he doesnt speak english (in a tone saying Dont talk to me)

so... do you think that he REALLY doesnt speak english... or do you think that he is just hiding the fact that he can.. for now to see if he can trust sylar..?

i dont even know where im really going on this.. but any thoughts would be nice...

wasn't there moment where alendro asked maya what sylar said? can't remember if that was him or sylar

I thought that when he was in jail he was just saying that to keep Derek from talking to him, too. But I think if he really did understand English, Maya would know. Instead she has been translating everything Sylar and Derek have said for the whole ride.

I think he can understand some thing from context. Like he understood that Sylar was asking about them when he saw him holding the paper and asking Maya a question. What other question would he have been asking besides "Is this you?" so Alejandro answered "Say no!" As for understanding "Take me with you, I have a car!" Most of it was probably from context and it would make sense that he inderstands a gist of the phrase, it's not exactly a very difficult one. I mean, I'm no where near fluent in Spanish but just from what I learned in middle school I can understand "I have a car."

So I don't think he knew what Sylar was saying to him, but I think he knows it can't be good. He knows is has something to do with his sister because Sylar said Maya's name. He may have understood words like "kill" and "mine" as well, but I don't think he knew all of it. And without knowing what Sylar specifically told him and he voices his concerns to Maya, she'll only say he should be more trusting, Gabriel has only helped them so far, etc, etc.

I think it's quote obvious that Sylar is deliberately driving a wedge between the twins, slowly pitting them against each other. I think that after that stunt he pulled with the police and the "talk" Alejandro KNOWS he can't trust Sylar, but he won't be able to convice Maya.

You can know a few English words and phrases without speaking English.

This is true. I don't really understand what they say on Univision, but I did order a ham and cheese sandwich with a beer at a spanish speaking restaurant.

I watched the commentary of the episode and the writer of the episode said that Alejandro doesn't really understand english and that sylar doesn't understand spanish.

What I would like to know is if these twin siblings are so connected and unseparable, how did one learn English and not the other?

Doesn't this seem a bit odd?

If Alejandro had any sense, he'd just wait until Maya inevitably got attacked, injured, scared, etc. and then, while she's doing her thing and Sylar's dying, he "accidentaly" fails to stop it until it's too late to
bring him back to life.  Problem solved.

But then, that wouldn't be very Heroic, would it?

I don't like Al Sylar should kill him and not take powers. Alejandro=sliced.gif

Heh. That would have worked if there were pictures. I had to think back to the two years of spanish I took in high school though. I was glad I paid a bit of attention in school, when I was stuck in Spain.

that's irrelevevant.

we don't know the twins past. they could've grown up in different houses.

Worked different jobs, one where Maya could hear some english, and maybe he didn't work period. Just cause they're twins doesn't mean they need to know the same things.

Just because they are close doesn't mean they are the same. Maybe Maya has more schooling then Alejandro, maybe she has made a point to learn where as Alejandro has had no interest, or maybe she had a job where she needed to be able to speak it.

My sister and I are very close. She is pretty fluent in italian; I on the other hand don't know a thing. Granted, we don't depend on each other for each others powers, but if they are like the other heroes they haven't really had their powers for that long, and thus anything could have happened prior to that.

I actually enjoy this storyline and hope that both twins survive. I'd rather watch their storyline instead of Hiro's which is dull as heck.
Jmn1287
I really like their storyline, escpecially after sylar joined them. I can't wait to see what's going to happen with them. smile.gif

In the storyline we've seen so far, it seemed they were inseparable. Even when they spoke to the woman who was going to help them across the border, who knew them when they were younger, she said they were always together. Too bad Alejandro doesn't know English, he would have put the beat down on Sylar even more.

Ummm what's the connection between being twins and so connected and unseparable with learning English?

Maya probably wanted to learn and Alejandro didn't care. What's odd about it?

I dunno, I thought it was cute how Sylar got it off his chest that he wanted to kill the twins

They weren't always like that...their powers only manifested recently. Before that, they seemed to have lived perfectly normal, separate lives. They've only been inseparable since their abilities bound them together.
PLAS
I really loved the direction their story is taking, and it wouldn't surprise me that the event that triggers the decimation of humanity starts when Sylar tries to get Maya's power

but it also seems that Maya is falling for Gabriel, could there be a new window for redemption?
kitty
Maya IS falling for Gabriel, but Gabriel only likes her for her mind tongue.gif literally

about the part that alejandro secretly knows english
that reminds me of scrubs episode where carla's brother comes and she tells turk that he doesn't know any english, but when carla isn't there her brother would like curse at turk and turk would be like OH MY GOD CARLA HE KNOWS ENGLISH and then she was like pshh no and yea... lol

LOL yeah, that was hilarious...Carla's brother was so funny. In this case, it wouldn't make sense though. Alejandro would have no reason to hide being able to speak or understand English - in such a desperate situation, it wouldn't make sense for him to have Maya constantly translating to keep up an act that he started well before their powers manifested. He definitely can't speak English. I'm sure he can understand a few things here and there, and get the gist of certain words, but he wouldn't have understood what Sylar was saying to him. Maybe he could understand "kill" and "sister" or a few other words, but he wouldn't really be able to put it into context.

um, Alejandro did say he was going to do exactly that:

"Next time your eyes turn dark, don't look for my hand. I'll let him [nods at Sylar] die."
