I could take or leave Sylar but, in episodes like this it reminds me of how much he brings to the show. Evil. Deceitful in everyway. l LOVED how he used his sexual prowess to hide that her brother's dead body was three feet away.

Sylar has become a joke... a caricature of what used to be cool about him. I am so done with his character and his uber 'cool' casting of his sinister steely gaze from under his heavily plucked eyebrows.
All we needed was him twirling his mustache and laughing bwaaa... haaaa... haaa.
His character has done nothing this season to warrant the bobby-socks swooning over him. A very good actor, yes. Important to this season story arc, no.

Yes, indeed, Sylar's badassery has skyrocketed more in one episode than in the past ten episodes. I admit it was weird to see him kill Alejandro with an actual weapon. (Well... it was more of a weapon than the legendary
“Have a nice day” mug.)
And since no one bright it up... The picnic... It was... beyond description... Nice to see Sylar's name on the screen again, though. It was awesome how he put his life at risk in order to make Maya control her power... The bigger the risk, the bigger the win.

The only response I can muster for this is when he was talking about his mother.
All of the sudden, you see this beaten down character. This horribly, horribly crazed man, who suddenly seems to be opening up and crumpling right there. The emotion with which he spoke brought me instantly back to that night in his mother's apartment, and the look on his face when she was stabbed.
This is a guy who I have watched kill, and kill, and kill, and attempt to kill character after character. Characters I loved dearly! And I couldn't help but sympathize because he was so genuine. All of the wrong melted away, so that it was still there, and you couldn't forget it, but you could see the reason in his madness
And then, after all of that, a single look of his eyes, and you just know. You can just
see him change by his
expression.

Okay, I know we're all big Heroes fans...but let's be honest. No one on the show is going to win an Oscar for their performance. Even Ali (bless her heart), the most accomplished, seems to be just phoning it in. I miss the guest starts...Charlie (memory girl)...Ellen Green (Sylar's mother)...even Charles Deveaux...now these people could act. Kristin Bell really raised the bar for acting on the show. She's that good.
If you want to see Sylar acting fairly well, watch Zach when he was on "24." He was pretty good on that show.

Why all the Sylar bashing--I think its jealousy. He's hands down the most popular on the show. Why do you people like the bad guy?! Because he's hot!
Thinking about and re-watching the episode--Sylar was and Maya was... and I can't catch my breath. It was A rhaphsodey, a poem, gorgeous and gorgeosity! All in HD--damn I don't have an HD recorder--but soon.
Applause to writer Jesse Alexander! And of course the actors ZQ and DR and SO.
Also to all in the episode great episode 5/5 for me!

question: So he's binding Maya to him because he doesn't have his powers back yet?

We've seen that Sylar will get bored with collecting powers eventually. And he will let minions with powers work under him if they serve his purpose. We've seen that he can be a great manipulator. He's also the only one that can balance against Peter, whom may have more powers, but can't use what he has very well. Sylar masters his powers. We need a force to counter all the good.

last season, sylar was a bit of a simpering ******. basically peter but evil.
and I really wasn't feelin' it.
this season he's been more laid back, and I've been intruiged. and in the last couple of eps he's been in, he's just upped the evil badass by MANY levels. his manipulation (and empowerment, to be fair) of maya is brilliant and the subsequent romance has been written so well.
he totally outshines adam as a villain. I really hope he kills adam actually, and takes his power. that'd be swell plus he has to balance peter out so he should be immortal really.

This thread is cracking me up.
While I wouldn't say that ZQ is conventionally James Dean, he is very charismatic & is still a visually appealing person.

That combined is why so many people love him. The Sylar character just multiplies that because he has that whole dark & sexy thing going on. Although incredibly creepy. It's fun to say so from afar but in all honesty if I met Sylar in person I'd run in the opposite direction.
Anywho, after I allowed myself to be sucked into that conversation I'll get back on track. I think that this years Sylar and last years Sylar are different. I had been extremely disappointed prior to last night. I felt there was very little character growth. Last night it just dawned on me that the problem wasn't the growth it was the lack of screen time and story line.
I love that he doesn't have his powers. I really like seeing the more layed back side of him, it makes him more "serial killer."
He still hasn't risen back to the top of my bad guys list. Anders is rocking that out this season.
As for the acting on the show in general. Well, some of it is not that good,... Who am I kidding, bad. Maya is so over acted it makes me gag.
Some of it I think is excellent. I think the following characters are usually always well played: Nathan, HRG, Sylar, and Elle. Claire, Peter, Angela, Hiro.. They all do a good job of portraying those characters. I haven't seen anything stand up and clap yet but... Well, Hayden did a really good job on last nights episode.

ergg you sensors! fine then
sylar is a deuche
I'll kind of have to agree with this assessment. I don't get why Sylar is on the show this season, except for the fact that he's popular. His story is more of a distraction. Adam is much more of an evil character and I would have liked to see more attention paid to his evil-ness in the last century. We're on episode 11 and Sylar hasn't done anything.
I'm guessing that since we heard the tick tock sound, he has his powers back but now what? What's the point? I'm hoping Peter or Hiro or anyone just finishes the job and gets that guy off the show. His story line is forced because of his fan base. He's not on any side, trying to do anything except to regain his powers so he can go on a serial killing spree again. He was basically a decoy much of season 1, with Peter ultimately becoming the bomb and the virus story is much more compelling than a serial killer. This is not a detective show, where they all work for the authorities and try to stop a murderer. It's a comic book show and they need "end of world" scenarios to band together to stop. It works best when it's a good vs. bad match-up, not a selfish villain murdering everyone he sees. Plus, I can't imagine that any "hero" would want this guy around, since all he would want to do is kill them to steal their power. I think it would take about 15 minutes of any episode to have a few heroes get together and exterminate this guy.
As for ZQ being a "great actor" - I'm not so sure. Maybe for TV but in my opinion he's a bit feminine to be the "big bad guy." I can't stand his high pitch, whisper like voice when he's trying to be sinister. It's almost laughable. The HRG actor is the best on the show - or like in a previous post, the guest actors have been the scene stealers.

Sylar is great. I can't wait for him to die already.
Hmm, how would I kill him.
Hiro - Slice him, and dice him.
Elle - Fry him like a fish.
Niki - Rip his arms off.
Mikah - Elevator crash, or exploding laptop battery.
Matt - Trap him in a nightmare where he is hunted and has his brains removed, over and over.
Bob - Turn him to Lead, and dump him in the ocean.
Maya - Cry him to death.
West -Fly and drop.
Yes, he must die soon.
