Full Version: Did anyone else like Claire's grieving scene?

A lot of people don't like Claire's scene when she is grieving over the loss of her Father, and when she describes the pain she is in. I almost started crying during that scene. (I never cry because of a TV show) I thought it was a very emotional scene, and it was well written, and was acted brilliantly.

For those of you who don't think so, can you tell me why? I hear a lot of complaints about this scene, and I'm not sure why people hated it so much.

All input is appreciated. smile.gif

EDIT: I'm talking about the scene with just Claire and West, not the funeral scene.

I didn't like it for a few reasons.
1. If someone was to pour out all the ashes it should have been the mother, not the daughter.
2. Claire has be sneeking around and lying (just like her dad) the entire season.

I guess that Claire's character has just ticked me off this season and I don't feel sorry for her at all.

I wasn't really talking about the funeral scene. I was talking about the scene when she was with West, and she was telling him how much it hurt to loose her father.

But thank you for your input anyway. smile.gif

I thought it was a good performance. A hot chick like that, all vulnerable because she lost her dad. I would've taken advantage!

Seriously though, the scene wasn't very effective with Please-give-me-acting-lessons West screwing the moment.
ColorMeToxic
Yeahh, coz every chick loves being taken advantage of... LoL.

But the only problem I had with the scene was West. If he hadn't have opened his mouth, it would have been great.

On that scene, Hayden's acting was great, I thought. But West was unfortunately, not top quality acting as usual, and the way that scene was written was... unconvincing to me. I'm gonna have the Haitian wipe my memory of my father so that I forget about him instead of grieving for him? Eh... I thought that was kind of weak. But Hayden made the most of it, she's a very good actor.

Well, I liked both that scene and the funeral scene. smile.gif

I hated that scene because of Claire's stated desire to loose all her memories of her dad. It was very selfish.

Seriously, was that her solution to everything? It went beyond insulting all the sacrifices that Noah had made to protect Claire. It insulted every act he's done for her from the moment he took her in. When people we love die, it hurts beyond comprehension and there isn't much to salve that pain. But all we're left with is our memories of that person. To wish those away is to desecrate that person.

I don't know what the writers have been trying to do with Claire this season, and to a lesser extent all the female characters on the show. I just don't think the writers are capable of writing a fully realized woman, instead preferring to resort to caricatures and stereotypes. Claire's character this season appears to have come straight from the O.C. (the cancelled T.V. show, not the actual place). Her primary concerns this season (fitting into H.S. & the boyfriend) would be appropriate for someone from that show, not for a person lives with the constant threat of being captured and experimented upon.

I can understand why she'd want to forget. I mean... seriously, I wouldn't call it selfish, more like human.

I mean... death of someone you love can be agonizing, and you could wish to be dead along with them. So wishing to forget you'd ever known them is very human.

Exactly.

I agree completely. When something that tragic happens to you, it's all you can think about. The thoughts consume you until you can't even function normally during your daily life.

And if you did have access to a man who could erase your mind, you would take that opportunity in a heartbeat.

Reminds me of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". If you haven't seen the movie, it's about a doctor who comes up with a way to earse specific memories from your mind. For example Jim Carry's character falls in love, and things don't work out with the girlfriend, and she just removes him from her memory. It's so painful, rather then deal with it, he does the same with her.

Its not an unheard of option, I mean thinking it. Sometimes your mind gets so clouded with the pain and heartache, you'd do anything to make it go away. Claire can't deal with the fact that she was being a whiney brat, and it got her father killed (Not all her fault, but some of it). And they were VERY, VERRRYY close.

Hell... watching HRG die even made ME cry.

I wouldn't exactly know what it's like to lose a father. Sad thing is, I don't think it would have an effect on me either way.
