Full Version: Which is better episode finale?

I like this one a bit better, due to better plot and action. What you think?

Overall I season 1 over season 2, but prefer the season 2 finale over the season 1 finale

I liked them both alot.

S1 was very good for speacial effects and suspence, Matt, Sylar, will Nathan come acound, vanishing Hero. Good overall.

S2 was all shock value, even knowing 2 heroes would die, and only one up tell then had, I was still left slack jawed. What happened to Adam, shock value. Then there's the rest of the episode, Claire and HRG scene dropping the box, Sylars eye rolling, Nathan playing cargo plane with Matt.

I have to say I liked S2 final better.

Preview of S3 was better than the preview of S2 after the final episode imo too. (Sylar scene versus Kensai scene)

The season 1 finale had me on the edge of my seat. It was more emotionally gripping, especially the end when Nathan swooped in to save the day. It brought a tear to my eye.

S2 finale was much, much, MUCH better because it made use of all its characters. Last year everyone kind of stood around while Peter and Sylar slapped each other. This year EVERYONE was in the mix in some way. The Hiro vs. Peter vs. Matt vs. Adam vs. Nathan vs. Shanti virus made good use of all their powers and personalities, and the Mohinder/Sylar hostage situation just COOKED. Even Niki got to kick more ****** this year than last year, and I didn't think she could get any cooler than pimp-slapping Sylar with that parking meter.

I haven't actually watched the season 2 finale yet. I wasn't aware that it aired.

I can compare the season 1 finale to the volume 2 finale, and hands down volume 2 kicked ****** over volume (season) 1. Now if the characters can stay dead it'll be ok. Hiro is more badass with this finale then vs Sylar. Micah keeps getting the short end of the stick. And just as Peter finds Nathan and stops the virus some shoots Nathan. That is a great twist and I enjoyed it.

I thought both were very good, but I preferred S1's finale.

The S1 finale was just a more complete end. It pulled together so many of the personal connections built up throughout the season, and expounded on emotional themes throughout that season. Sure, we didn't get all the answers that we wanted and more questions were created, but I think we got everything we needed.

The S2 finale was better in terms of action, however, it just seemed like a brief respite until the action picks up again.

How to stop an exploding man > Powerless

Reasons this is so:

It's got Malcolm McDowell in it.

Parkman gets shot.

DL gets shot but doesn't die.

Candice gets beaten up by Niki.

Reasons that make this judgement slightly questionable:

Everything that happens after Nathan arrives at Kirby Plaza.

Nobody seems to notice that Sylar's body has disappeared, and this has yet to be dealt with in subsequent episodes.

Linderman is killed in this episode/in the previous one. This is the last episode in which Malcolm McDowell appears, though the blame could perhaps be better directed towards every episode of season 2. There is no reason that Malcolm McDowell should not appear in every episode. Note: "because his character is dead" is not a valid excuse.

Parkman gets shot multiple times in the chest but doesn't die.

They were both alright but neither of them I thought were that great. dry.gif
One was probably the better of the two, but the fight with Sylar at the end could have been a bit longer.
Two seemed like it was rushed so quickly because of the whole writers strike.
Hopefully Three will learn from the first two.

Season 1 was an overall better season but I prefer the Season 2 finale.
patdzon
S2 finale would have been way better if it weren't for that damn writer's strike.

Without a doubt season 1, although the ending was not that great, the season kicked ******.

P.S. Season 2 finale would have been much better if Micah ran into save Niki when the building blew
Daedalus
I agree that Volume One was overall the better volume. However, the end of Volume Two was more satisfying. I didn't feel totally let down. Not that I didn't like the end of Volume One...it grew on me...but I like this one much better.

If only Monica, West, and Maya would've ran in there, too. Hell, resurrect Alejandro and let him go with them (even though I actually liked Maya & Alejandro...they didn't do much for the story).
Citizen
Season 1 finale was way better (music, storyline) and the scene where Niki uses her power for the first time and helps Peter is awesome.
dref22
I agree, season 1 was definitely a lot better, but this season's finale is better than season one's.

Wait a minute! This season didn't end yet!

Nathan playing cargo plane with Matt.

laugh.gif

im sry. i know this is a serious discussion, but i had to quote and laugh at it. that scene was probably the funniest of the season.

anyways.

its hard to pick between the two, at least for me. i would say season 1. everything just came together nicely, and there was a set plotline that got resolved. V2 finale, there were so many storylines, that i don't think all of them got completely resolved, like someone said, we have more questions then anwers

BUT, you have to remember, this isn't the SEASON finale of the 2nd season. this is only the finale of the first volume. i just thought i would remind everyone wink.gif

I would have to say that Vol 1 finale was better than Vol 2 finale. To me Vol 1 finale was more emotionally gripping to me, maybe i was more invested emotionally, and like someone previously said it brought a tear to my eye. Was Vol 2 finale good? Yes, But I think it will set up Vol 3 whenever that happens very nicely, the cliffhanger(s) were leaving me wanting more so...there you go.
sylargray
season 1. i don't know how many times i watched sylar vs. peter(at least 50-no joke).
this finale was really good too.especially the part with sylar(he's back).
aulduron
Volume one was more emotional, by far.

I liked the way everyone used their powers in this episode better.
Rabbit
Season 1. Actually, pretty much everything about S1 is better.
Aerdna
Like the majority, overall, I favored season 1 over this season, but the finale to season 2 (or volume, whatever) felt more satisfying to me.

For some reason the volume 2 finale had me reacting more to the scenes (at least from what I can remember, it feels like May was so long ago). I don't know, I guess I just automatically expect action from a finale and that's what I got this time around smile.gif However, the volume 1 finale was definitely more emotional and focused more on the character development.
boonskank
season two, as a whole, lacked the emotion and power of the first. i don't find myself feeling as involved in the developement of the characters and their stories either.

not sure who's to blame for it.

season 1 > season 2 for sure.
LightMeDark
I greatly prefer volume two's finale to volume one's, though I'm fairly certain I enjoyed V1 more (I loved the parts with Adam in this Volume, though). Volume one's finale was a letdown and caused my fiancee to forsake the show.

I blame the writers' strike and to lesser extent Tim Kring himself. Hopefully the mistakes made this time around will be learned from.
Hopper
Season 1 as a whole is better than season 2.

However, I liked the season 2 finale better than the season 1 finale.
themightytruk
I liked the season 1 finale better. All of the storylines came together and it was great. Really felt like a good conclusion. Volume 2's finale was good too, but there were about 3 relatively separate storylines going on (stopping the virus, Mohinder dealing with Sylar, and Niki rescuing Monica). There was a lot of good action, but it didn't seem as cohesive as season 1's finale.

That's exactly how I felt. Season One was really superior to Season Two with the exception of the finale. Maybe it's because "How to Stop an Exploding Man" was so hyped-up & ended up being a lot less than I hoped, but I found myself much more engaged in "Powerless" & I was genuinely surprised by a lot of what happened in it. Season 1 was an overall better season but I prefer the Season 2 finale.

Season2 is incomplete, so that's kind of a twisted answer.
ASHPD
Season One Volume One ending > Season Two Volume Two.

Volume Two's ending was predictable, it wasn't very EPIC and really that promising as what the trailer ahas promised. Yes a resolution is reached but the ending wasn't very professional, and that episode itself has lots of plot holes (peter becomes silly, adam buried alive and god knows how hiro knows which coffin is empty...etc)

Actually to be really frank I find both volumes' endings to be somewhat disappointing. I expect more than that, really, I hope is something really memorable and truly EPIC. There is some element missing which I can't explain.

I hope the next volume's ending should be really EPIC.

P.S. Oh yeah pls let the guy that made Cautionary Tales do this ending, he has the potential, and that was my fav EPIC episode.
ilikemoney09
I personally liked Volume 2's ending more. Volume 1, while good, ended up being to predictable for me. But "Powerless" really kept my interest and threw in some great twists.
josiah
OMG can we just forget the whole second season even happened
Renrut
I have a better ending for season two. Nathan says "My name is Nathan Petrelli and I can fly". He jumps and nothing happens because Angela has put the Haitian in the front row. Heidi, watching on TV, says "Angela was right he is nuts". The Haitian then wipes their memories one by one as they are alone later.
