Why is the company keeping cards and a brain inside the vault?
Whose brain is it?

Sylar's, the company swapped it with a clown after SE1.

Maybe it will be items that tie into other storylines. Because I was wondering that myself. I was trying to think of what they could be attached too. I'm hoping we get some good stories out of them.

For some reason, this company likes to keep relics and antiqities in their possession (Remember Linderman's Archives? I WONDER WHERE ALL THOSE ITEMS ARE NOW?).
Some of these items will tie into future episodes (Like St. Joan's Dagger), and some won't.
As for the brain, perhaps that is what's left of the person that was killed by a "headshot."

Maybe this is a rogues gallery of the Company.
What's left of their enemies.
While Linderman's collection pertains specials history, past and future.

With the way Peter is portrayed by the writers this season, I'm pretty sure that the brain is his.

Maybe the items are symbolic, like whoever has the keys to the vault is the brains behind the operation, the one holding all the cards, the trojan horse that will infiltrate the enemy.

The dagger seen in the room is definitely a peculiar one as its all curvy and whatnot. And later on, we see Saint Joan carrying the same curvy dagger on the cover of 9th wonders. Definitely something there

When I saw the cards I thought of the old "Wild Card" series of Sci-Fi books - which Heroes seems to be very loosely based on.
In those books , back during WWII an alien ship is attacked (or crashed) (or something) over the Earth and a virus is released in the air. It mutated humans in random ways (hence the title). Some got great powers like super-strength, invunerabilty, telekenisis, mind control, gravity control, phasing powers, etc. Others got the s***end of the stick and got stuff like an extra nose or 3 eyes or really useless powers.
When I first heard of Heroes it reminded me of those books.

I think the brain is key to Season 3. I think it's only there for Sylar to eat to gain a new power that they couldnt show him killing someone to get for some reason (i.e. immortality, but I kinda don't want it to be immortality, dealt enough with that.) I'm really hoping it's some kickass power, I can't really think of one but I'm guessing that the power will be instrumental in season 3.
The other items, I'm not really sure.

I think the cards belong to Papa Petrelli. In the graphic novel about him, they seemed to make a point about his great luck, as illustrated by his card playing. Some people even speculated from the GN that luck was his "ability." I don't know if that's true. I'm just sayin'.

It might be items that are tied partially to the deseased company members and their abilities.
However, I still loved the comment and laughed about that it could be peters or sylars due to their stupidity this season.

Though it that case it could be almost anyones from the regulars. ^^

lol - thanks for that enovak. I would like to see some Heroes that got the rough end of the deal. Interesting catch too - Wild Card sounds exactly like Heroes - I wonder if the alien virus idea was/is a possible.

What if it's the brain of the other power mimic Claude alluded to?
Actually, wouldn't Peter have already absorbed whatever power the brain has because of how close he was to it? If it's worth keeping, it must still have some sort of power left in it.

Well, the idea of the items being possessions of the deceased sounds logical, except how does the virus fit into that? One of my thoughts was that the items were a collection that Adam had created over the years of "trophies" from different Heroes he'd killed, but again, that doesn't fit with the virus being in there. The only logical conclusion I can come to is that these are all very dangerous items, especially in the wrong hands. They obviously can be usefull in the right hands, as they were not destroyed outright. Hopefully they will get more into this next season.
Did anyone else want Matt to try and mind read the brain in the jar?

I thought that they may be things from other shows/books/comics/films that the writers were into. A little inside reference for their pleasure, if you will

perhaps when all the queens are united something happens.
and the brain could be all that's left of an original company member (papa petrelli perhaps?)
as for the knife, the 9th wonders cover connection seems spot on.
as for the key, I believe that that's tied to adam specifically, perhaps something from the days of him being kensei?

I rather doubt that the key belonged to Adam, but I think that he knows its secret and has wanted to get his hands on it ever since it was decided that it was so dangerous that it should be locked away.

is linderman dead in season 2? if so, do we know how he died?
Yes, Linderman died at the end of season 1 when DL grabbed a portion of his brain out of his head.
About the vault.
I thought it was interesting that Adam had his hand up around the key. (At first I was thinking he hid the virus there, but not sure now).
I hope that we get lots of answers about the original 12 founders and the secrets of the vault revealed in season 3.

ok, this might be stretching it a BIT (or a lot) far, but i was talkinf to some people on 9th about it, and i have this book thats full of answers and its really useful.
it seems the queen of clubs is missing (from a screencap). now, each of the queens in the deck represents one of the queens in history. According to my book, the Queen of clubs represents Argine, which is an anagram for
regina which is latin for queen.
that being said, could the missing "queen" be Angela?
(if any of thei info is wring i will change it later, im at school and the book is at home

)
just something to think about

I'm going to watch the episode with commentary later to confirm, but I read something that mentioned the commentary stating that all the items represent different founding members.
So here are my thoughts:
Brain: Charles Deveaux seems to have a dream power, something with memory, maybe having to do with the brain?
Cards: It has been speculated that Mr. Petrelli had a luck based power. That could be why he attempted suicide so many times, he is incredibly difficult to kill. Note that its a three of a kind, and queens, which is quite a high card. That is certainly a lucky hand.
The key is made of gold, something that bob can turn things into. My guess is the key also unlocks something that holds more secrets/treasures/items of the company.
The dagger is harder to place. It seems to be a Saint Joan dagger. Perhaps one of the founding members not mentioned also had a muscle mimic ability? Is that what they are getting at?
The virus was also in this vault, the product of Victoria Pratt. It doesn't seem like she had a power, but she would certaintly store something like this there.
There was a horse, but I think it was a TROJAN horse. Something to do with deception? I think Angela might have a power relating to persuasion, but moreso that she can seem entirely trustworthy and good intended, and then BAM suddenly you have your entire city destroyed. Get what I'm going for there?
I don't think there was anything else..
