I love radio drama. I would like to help somehow with voices (though no offense, I am a little tired of 'The Explosion Happened in the Future' stories)

Ladyphantom: Awesome, I'd be glad for the help!
DrStrange: Great. Hey, no worries, that was just a tentative idea to get started on. I'd love to hear your thoughts on a possible setting and story for this.

Question: How do you plan on putting the story into audio?
Reboot
Dec 7 2007, 11:58 PM
The overall process is pretty simple. Anyone helping out with the voices would need a microphone, and be able to set some time out (when it's quiet where they are) to do their sound pieces. These will be overlayed together as outlined in the story, and various incidental tracks and background sound effects will be added onto these as well.

Sign me up. I've done some basic radio work before, and sound projects, and I have a mic, so I guess I can help out. Plus i guess I write some stories on this board, so I can do storywriting too.
Probly busy, but you assign and I'll do in my own time, by a deadline.
And DrStrange is right. Explosion-future-stop-explosion-now storyline is quite passe. no offense though.

Cool, great to have you onboard, KarlG! Lol, again, none taken, that was just an initial thought when the idea came to set this up - there are many different avenues that this could go in.

I'm willing to help. Voice if you need it, but since I don't have much of a "radio voice", probably behind the scenes would be better. Whatever you need me for, basically.

Dec 10 2007, 02:53 AM
That would be awesome, Riddler. Hey, no prob, I don't have much of a voice for audio either, but it's all good, and this should be quite fun to do as well.

So at the moment that's:
* LadyPhantom
* DrStrange
* KarlG
* Riddler
* Myself
I was just messing with some Heroes background music and doing a quick test:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/b4zelhWe could definately put together a small audio drama here, centering on some characters discovering their abilities, and either a main villain or the Company to force the story along - depending on what we decide for the overall story arc. Abilities would obviously need to be something that translates well through audio. (Stuff like super strength would be a no-no and quite boring, but anything that has a distinct sound would be great).
We've all thought what would be cool abilities if we ever had any, so as a starting point for this, what powers would you see your character as possessing? Then we'll go from there...
RiddlerHanjinome
Dec 10 2007, 05:46 AM
Well, there are always elemental powers (i.e., aerokinesis, hydrokinesis, cryokinesis, pyrokinesis, etc), and the sound effects for those wouldn't be too difficult. Just find sound effects that are the sounds of those elements, like wind blowing, or an earthquake's rumble, that sort of thing.

A good power for audio-drama would be umbrakinesis, the power to create darkness, move between shadows or teleport... which you could use Nightcrawlers
"BAMF!" effect for.
*Shameless wants that power in real life as well* I'd never be late anywhere again!

should we post clips of ours voices? just so you'd get a feel for what we can do and if we need beeter mics or something?
Reboot
Dec 13 2007, 12:33 AM
Thanks for all the offers of help, I've got a really good feeling about this little project now.

Yep, Ladyphantom has the way of it. To start organizing everyone who is helping and such, the next step I was going to suggest is that, everyone who wants to help out with voices, should post a voice sample.
From that, we can start piecing actual characters and personalities together, abilities / other, and story possibilities.
And Sifr's right, as long as we can get a distinct and recognizable sound clip for each power, we could think up some pretty cool abilities that these characters could have, along with maybe one or two from the show itself.

Well, contact me about writing and/or organizing when you need it. I have access to speakers, but no microphone (my computer access is a computer at work, 11pm-8:30am PST). So, get in touch with me during those times. Also, my messenger information is as follows:
MSN - Foxtrot_X_Ray@hotmail.com
AIM - RiddlerHanjinome
Yahoo! - DJRiddler5707@yahoo.com
I think it would be smart if we all use a common instant message application to chat in real time and coordinate all of these things. Also, my access to AIM or Yahoo! is full-time, being as it is on my phone. As a side effect, I can't receive files on either of those messengers.

Nothing specific in mind, just a voice sample so that we can hear what everyone sounds like, and begin piecing together characters and abilities.
Cool. My MSN is

Dec 16 2007, 08:11 AM
Yeah,
www.sendspace.com is a really quick and easy place to upload your files. And a big hello to the new recruits!
Ok, to reitterate where we are at, could everyone who wants to help out with voice acting submit a short audio sample. It doesn't need to be anything special, just to give us an insight into your voice, for developing the characters in the next stage. If you can personally do other accents, then by all means, submit the sample in several different voices, as we'll definately need minor characters appearing from time to time. So if you have the talent to do more than one voice, all the better.

No worries to anyone who can't provide samples for a while, I know it's the christmas period and everyone can get quite busy.
Ladyphantom: I wasn't able to open up your first clip, as it was a project file and not a wav or mp3, so I just watched your second video and was able to hear your voice. So no worries there. You've got a nice 'youth' sounding tone, definately a late teens character. Oh, if you are in need a program to record your voice by the way, you can use Audacity, which is a free program. Googling it will provide the website.
Roogle: Great samples. I seriously love the third one, it gives the illusion of a loner coming to grips with his situation. Would easily suit a main 'good' Heroes character. Welcome aboard!
So yeah, those two samples are already giving me quite a few ideas. Can't wait to hear others.

OK, I have my three clips.. I can do more... but this is all I have right now...
Also, I didn't know what to read.. so I read the back of my Harry Potter book, lol.
HERE is the "regular voice" you know.. no real acting as that is my voice.
THIS was my horrible, horrible attempt at an accent.. I don't even know what that is... I don't even know why i posted it, lol.
LAST is my "demon/Villain" voice... in case you wanted one... it's kinda messed up as my voice started cracking. lol.

Windows Live Messenger is a great way to communicate by voice as it has a voice clip button that sends a compressed .wav file to a user. All you do is hold F2 in an active instant message window and you can record a quick sound clip. Great for coaching and listening in on things! I send voice clips to friends all the time for various reasons.

Let me know what you guys think of these character ideas that I've been thinking about...
Roogle: Been thinking about a main character for you based on the last voice sample that you provided. I'm envisioning a young man constantly on the run from the Company. He lives a pretty nomadic life, just moving from city to city whilst trying to escape notice and stay one step ahead. He finds it hard to trust others. The reason he is so sought after is because of abilities. He has the power to create an astral projection of himself. This projection harneses his slight telekinetic abilities, therefore the projection itself can physically move and touch things. An offshoot of this ability is that an intangible astral projection can move vast distances quickly - enabling him to search for miles all around in an instant.
Ladyphantom: Still thinking about this character at the moment! Let me know if you have any ideas of your own...
Lauryn: It's just as we were discussing on MSN, though I've added some backstory to the surfacing of that ability. For this character, I envision a young highschooler who has been bullied for most of her life. Though slightly cliche, she discovers the ability to become invisible from an early age and escape her torment. However, to advance from this cliche, this technique is only an offshoot of a main ability, which is the control and convertion of light particles. Her mother is partially blind, which was an accident during the surfacing of this character's powers when she was really young (the whole room was flooded with intense bright light - blinding her mum).
Rhysus: Just heard your voice now, but I was thinking of a more lighthearted character, kinda how Hiro started off. A young man working at a video store, but wishing that he was doing something more. I'm undecided by two main abilities. The first would be very Hiro like, which is the ability to bend space. Unlike normal teleporting, this character could bend space and create 'doorways' to travel from one place to the other. Later progression of this ability would allow it to be used more defensively / offensively, and on a much larger scale. Or, the second ability I was thinking off, was aerokinesis. So the character would be able to control wind, which would also allow flight.
