Full Version: Finally Up to speed
9th Wonders Boards > Episode Discussions > Season Two > 2.11: Powerless

Well, here I am, finally up to speed with the rest of you guys on Heroes. I just finished Season 2, Episode 11. I was waiting for Nathan's big reveal, but then that ****** had to go and shoot him.

I've grown to hate the Petrelli mother though, she seems to be the villainest of them all. It sucks that Sylar's back, but that will just bring more excitement in volume 3. All in all though, volume 2 was great, much better than volume 1.

By the way, any spin-offs or things to do in Heroes that I should know about?

There was supposed to be a spin-off showing now, but the writers strike screwed that up.

There's some crazy mysterious message that people are trying to decypher:

Well, I've just watched the entirety of Volume 2, and in at least one respect, I agree that it's superior to Volume 1 -- it's more coherent, and the storytelling is  tighter and more efficient than Volume 1, where many episodes, especially at the start of the first season, give a feeling that they were making it up as they went along, and of a certain lack of balance.

Of course, Volume 1 has a MUCH better story, and Volume 2 does suffer from clearly being a transitional volume, whilst Volume 1 has the converse suffering where the Heroes team were long unsure of whether they were telling the whole of the Heroes story in a single season, or whether it would become an ongoing series of several seasons.

I think the great "weakness" of Volume 2 is that they had to spend a lot of time shifting the narrative away from the self-containedness of Volume 1 towards a new, more open focus, and multi-volume story telling.

---

Tangentially, I am hoping that volume 2 was Act 2 of Niki's/Jessica's story, although clearly dragging her character on for more than a classic 3 Act plot would not work very well IMO.

Isn't Niki dead? I don't even she could have escaped that fire.

Volume 2 suffered from story arcs taking too long. Maya/Sylar's trip to NY took too long. Hiro was in past Japan too long. There could have been more with the main plot.

I just spent a few days watching season 1 and 2, and there is certainly some slow points to both, but at least there was a general direction in season 1 to me.

Well, it's likely, but we haven't seen her charred corpse yet ... At the end she did look towards another part of the basement like she was surprised -- someone could have appeared there or she could have seen a way out (or at least something to let her survive) ... still it's a long shot, but even then she may have a way out -- you can't be absolutely sure.

I so so hope that Niki is really gone. Wouldn't it be fun to watch Micah & Molly together?

Everything did go to crap for her this season, I just wish they'd shown more of her. She personifies so well the internal sturggle that all heroes have. I like the idea of the classic three act plot, but I'd feel cheated because she was too absent from Act 2 for me.
ColorMeToxic
When it comes to seasons 1 and 2, I think they were trying to cram too much into 12 episodes.

Might have gone a bit easier if there wasn't so much cramming.

I think Niki is still alive. I know it's a stupid theory and will probably make a lot of people hate me for bringing this up...I dont think D.L. is dead. He died way to quickly and randomly. Characters don't die like that in HEROES. Killed by some guy in a club, mabye the writer just decided to hell with him and killed him. But also there's the kind of...i want to say symbolism, that Niki was caught in a house on fire and D.L. was a great firefighter.

Oh and Volume 1 was defiently better then Volume 2. I felt that volume 2 went by to quickly, everything happened to fast. I forget how to spell his name...Morey, Matt's dad, he was taken care of and then what? last we saw of him he was on the floor. That's it? Im sure he'll be back in Villians but still...
tickitytak
maury was sedated and is now in the company prison, so to speak. Niki could be alive... but if she is, then they'd have to kill nathan. i mean you can't go and leave two characters in a cliffhanger, only to have BOTH of them survive. that's just pathetic... unless they have a really good story coming out of it.

"Maya/Sylar's trip to NY took too long" seriously? ever driven from mexico to new york? i'm sure it takes a while.

and the cramming... really. how could they NOT cram with the strike and all that? they had to finish up volume 2 so they could come back with a fresh start. i sure as hell didn't want to wait 6 months just to have 10 more episodes that drag on about the virus.
