I like Hayden Panettiere. She smiled at me once and you can see how guys can walk into walls over her. I like the character she plays and I like who she appears to be. She has risked her own safety to protect an endangered species. All together, I think she's a better role model for young women than many I've seen in years (snarl, Britney!). But as a political junkie who watches Chris Matthews regularly I was surprised when he read this from Us Magazine on air
Us Magazine

The 18-year-old told Us Weekly in its latest issue (on newsstands now) that she was "not yet prepared to say" which candidate she is supporting.

"I had a conversation with Barack Obama," she told Us. "I'm waiting to hear from Hillary Clinton."

The decisive issue for the actress? Saving the whales.

A source tells Us that when she attended a February 1 dinner with Chelsea Clinton, "Hayden made it clear to Chelsea she'll vote for whoever will help save the whales."

The Enviornment and protection of endangered Species are her big issue.

Mine are:
1)Healthcare - I'm old
2)the Economy - I need a job.
3)End to the Iraq War - Stupid, stuipid, stupid. We need to get out. See the Economy Stupid. Also they didn't attack us. It was an Oil grab and a Oedipal excercise.
4)Reinstatement of Haebeas Courpus - I like the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

What do you think of Hayden's number one issue? What are yours? and why?

I think it's pretty awesome that Hayden is interested in politics. The only thing though.. whales? I mean, I know she cares a lot about whales, but that's seriously how she's going to decide on which presidential candidate to vote for? I'm sure most of America would agree that there are more important things out there than whales. But each to his/her own, I guess.

I think it's great that Hayden is so passionate about this issue, but she should really consider more than just the whales. I don't think what either of the candidates say will narrow it down for her; for all we know, both candidates will run their mouths just to try and sway her and will in actuality, do absolutely nothing. While I do think that other topics are a much higher priority in this country than the whales, I like that Hayden is challenging both candidates with something completely out there.

blink.gif WTF, Hayden?

[This is the part where I should probably keep my mouth shut, but speak out anyway]

Hayden is a wonderful, mature person, but I must say, that's naivetie (sp?) bordering on stupidity. I love her, I love that she's got a cause that she's so passionate about, but come on! There's more to society than whales! I mean, yeah, it sucks that they're being so brutally killed, and I'm all for cutting down the amount that are slaughtered, or maybe finding a less painful way to end their lives (if your going to off 'em, you might at least show the poor animals that final kindness of their death being quick and painless), but what good is it going to do if the rest of the issues go down the toilet? What use will live whales be to us if we elect a president who takes away are rights and creates ridiculous laws that are unecessary to have? I don't know enough about where the remaining candidates stand on all the issues to say if this could really happen, but I'm speaking hypothetically. Whales are exceptionally fascinating and extraordinary animals, and I agree that we should preserve their species, but there are also some areas in society that are long overdue for some serious reform. (For example, public school education, but I won't even get into that right now)

What I'm getting at is, Whales are fantastic creatures, but I don't think Hayden is looking at the whole picture. We can't give one area special treatment at the expense of all others, this country isn't the best it could be, so we need to be more well-rounded and reformed in order to be able to do anything to help anyone or thing.

Do you get what I'm saying?

Yeah we need to focus on the PEOPLE in AMERICA. and not worry so much what happens to animals and foreigners so much. It is not our job to save the world.

Chill, dude. She's a rich 18 year old surfer chick who has an affinity for sea mammals. Like a lot of surfers, the enviornment of the sea is their issue. Whats important to you, is often determined by where you are in life. Shes not your average working person who has to worry about healthcare. So that's not likely to be her issue (though it is mine). Every group has their issues. That's the way the political system works.

BTW, I'm with you on all you've said.

Hehe, I'mma chick. wink.gif

Aaaaand yeah, I can get a little Chris Crocker-ish sometimes, sorry, didn't mean to go loony tunes on ya. laugh.gif

On the other hand, we shouldn't just push them aside like somthing that isn't wanted anymore. Something we should do something about but never get to it. Im not refering just to whales but also foreigners, garbage, energy, etc. How long before people going to get more into recycling. How about other forms of fuel that don't rely on foreign countries, maybe something cheaper so I have more money in my pocket instead of the gas station. Years ago a lot of people said that they would stop a $5 a gallon and now they don't know. Maybe vehicles with greater gas mileage.

Warning Endorsement Coming:

Its one of the things I like about Obama. He went to Detroit and told the automakers they have to up the gas milage on cars. He said the room went silent. I'm sure it did.

My feeling is we have to go electric ASAP.

Some people think we eventually burn our garbage and turn it into a form of fuel and make into a heat source. We could also tap geo-thermal for heating in certain areas.

I couldn't care less who Hayden wants to vote for or what her most pressing issues are. It's opinion and everyone has their own. Heck I had my own views when I voted in the australian electrion a couple of months back.
Driving_Mish_Crazy13
What about peanut-oil based fuel? Isn't it possible to use peanut oil to fuel our vehicles? huh.gif

That is one of the things I brought up the other day. Could the take a negitive and turn it in possitive by taking the garbage and using it as a fuel or change it into a fuel. If not for the cars, maybe for creating electricity for our homes. We are talking about using corn for fuel to make ethenal for our cars but what if we have a shortage one year or we get into a war and they take out the corn crop. I was listening to a guy earlier today who was talking about how the government makes it hard for people with alternitive fuels because at first it cost a lot to get things started and then they lower the prices of gas which takes them out of the market. Sometimes you don't know who to beleive.

If you go to my page, you'll know that I'm full of Barrack. As Dan Savage said," I'm gay for Barrack." I'm not gay, but there is nothing wrong with it. I will pick on Ryan Seacrest because he pretends he's not gay, and he was rude to Kathy Griffin (not Kathy Lee Gifford).

Uhhh..Whales..Watch next season that she;ll boycott until a whale apears in the show
