Once again, before I ask about this suggestion, hail to the new sherriff's deputies.
Ok, this may just be a question as much as a request, but would it be possible to put in the number of 9thversaries a person has had in the same way birthday's are portrayed on the home page, just underneath?
So, say for Febuary 30th you'd have:
The following User are celebrating a birthday today: X, Y, Z
The following users have their 9thversary today: A,B,C
I don't know, it might not even be valid yet, as the board is only 18 months old, but I just thought it'd be interesting.

I thought the board was older than that? I got here in Dec. '06, I think.
But I like the 9thversary idea.

I like that idea, but I think it all depends on if IPB has a hack for that particular feature.

Speaking of a new idea, I also have one.
Now, I know that games are pretty popular here on 9th, what with the RPG and Board Games Sections. They've gotten pretty interesting and diverse in recent months. Now, for those that may not know, each of these games (Well, most of them) have a "main" poster who handles all of the little details in the game itself. Basically, they are the Game-Master, or just GM for short.
What I was wondering is whether or not these GMs can have a sort of limited power within their own game topic/thread? I know that on other boards, it is possible for posters to edit Topic Names and delete posts, etc. Is it possible to give individuals access to these sort of, I dunno what to call em, functions? I just think it would give GMs a little more power to enforce the rules of their game without having to nag a Unicorn to help them.
Then again, I can definitely see the flaws in this plan since 9th does not allow posters to edit Topic Names, delete posts, etc. Not only that, but some posters would make Games and RPGs solely so they can have that power (Even though it would really only pertain to one topic).
I think, to counter these flaws, the Unicorns/admins (whoever would handle this really) would have to look over who wants these "powers" and then decide who gets them.
I dunno, just an idea I had. What do you guys think about it? Possible or no?

Since I've run boards similar to this, it's a good idea, but you can't limit it to just one area or forum, I don't think. If someone were giving m.od powers like that, they couldn't just be restricted to the RPG area since I don't think that's within board settings.
At least that's the case on the phpbb boards I've been an admin on.

Hmm. Thanks for the insight BG.
Now, is 9th any different from the other phpbb boards? If it is then it might be possible. If not, then it was an okay idea while it lasted.

That would require an admin
waayyy over my head to set up. It is an interesting idea, but it would require a fair amount of recoding or hack. BTW, the site started in mid July of 2006, so 18 months is a decent guesstimate.
As for Req's idea. There really isn't a way that I'm aware of to set those type of limited permissions (modding your own thread) for a member who creates a topic on this forum. Even if there were, I can only imagine the nightmares it could produce.
It is possible to allow members to edit their own topic title and/or delete their own posts. We haven't had a need for it and I can also see that going down the wrong path.

Oh I can definitely see the faults within the idea. It would only have been a good idea if we were capable of giving permission to trustworthy people, but since we can't give individuals this permission, I can totally understand not doing it. It works on smaller boards, but with a site like 9th, you'd have people breaking too many rules and messing things up.
Guess I'll just keep on bugging the mods for a little help every now and then, lol.

I like the 9thversary idea. It would go under the birthdays and it would feature members every day.

Also keep in mind that with 26,236 registered users, such a feature would display about 71.88 members on average. I could only imagine that some dates would have a significantly higher number of users registered on that date. Just something to keep in mind. I'd also imagining it taking a good bit of work from somewhere higher up to get it set up.

I know the verdict is out already, but as a player, I feel like I should comment. I think that this idea gives the GM more power than they need or deserve, in my opinion. Now, I have Co-GM'ed in several games, but I still think that it's in the interest of the players to not go with this idea ever.
I would think that it violates a RP'ers creativity and would make people less interested in RP'ing if their posts could be deleted at the discretion of the GM.
Honestly, I'm sure that there's at least one GM out there, either present or in the future, that would abuse that power. Just certain types of people shouldn't be granted too much power, and it's hard to determine to a degree who would be worthy of such a bestowal because the internet doesn't communicate a person's mindset especially well, in some cases. (And that statement wasn't meant as a rip to you mods or anything, who I'm sure have strict guidelines and know what to look for in terms of selecting members for modship.)
So I agree with wolfbro on this subject in that I could see it totally going down the wrong path.

I don't know of any phpbb board, Zensu, that allows a single poster to delete other people's posts. Only a mod can do that.
What I was asking for, if it had been possible, was whether or not we could be allowed to rename our own threads and topics and also be able to delete posts made by us. I never said that GMs should be allowed to delete other people's posts. That would make them like mods when they're really only regular posters.

Maybe you can have it set so that it will only display 9thversaries of active members with a certain amount of posts or a last log-in date within a certain period of time?

Here you start off talking about GM's..

And then you immediately switch to individual posters in the next sentence.

And then right back to GM's.

There was little, if any, indication that you were referring to us changing our own posts. Honestly, I commented on what I saw, and what I saw was that you were suggesting giving GM's more power in thier own game over posts, something that definately shoudn't happen in my opinion because of problems that already exist and would be made worse, and then the addition of potential new problems.

I thought GMs and individual posters were supposed to be the same thing. I think he meant 'individual posters' rather than mods.

I really liked the music you ladies had for Claude's scenes. I'd love to see (or rather
hear) that on a score album. All the music I've heard you ladies do is amazing! Your score pieces on the current Heroes soundtrack CD are by far my favorite pieces. Thanks for all you do.

PS I also liked the piece on the DVDs that plays during the interactive menu where it shows all the paintings and the corresponding show scenes.
