Full Version: How did the OWI find SG's?

Years and years before Molly Walker or the research of Chandra Suresh, the Bag-and-Tag operations were ongoing against SG's. So how did they find them all? Could THAT be the power stored in the Vault brain, which they were hoping Sylar could steal? It would explain why they kept him alive despite his obvious danger, and why they suddenly became so interested in Suresh's research. Why else would they care about him or Mohinder if they already had a system that detected SG's?

I suspect that by coming together originally and founding the Company, they developed methods of finding others with godsends. It is also possible that a member of the Company had (or has) an ability that allowed him / her to detect or sense others with godsends. Otherwise, they used the isotopes to keep track of those they identified but they haven't revealed what methods the Company uses to initially find others with godsends.

They may have been keeping track of or researching family trees. When Chandra Suresh published his book and later contacted Mr. Bennet about his daughter, the Company should have realized that Chandra had a method of finding SG's. This would have been of great interest to the Company not only because they might be able to use his methods but also because the Company would need to control Chandra's attempts to publish his findings.

Now that Mohinder has taken up his father's research, the Company needs to keep him in the fold as well so that they can attempt to contain the information.

Smart thinking...I like that researching family trees idea. Especially with a guy like Adam around who could've kept tabs on bloodlines through the centuries firsthand.

I think we could easily speculate that they used others with powers to help locate and "bag and tag". There could be a number of hypothetical powers that would provide useful.

Obviously, The Company has vast resources. I wouldn't be surprised if they have all kinds of connections and a great system to monitor more local events that might be indicative of those with powers.

I think it's also of note that they can locate those with powers before they even show any powers. Both Matt and Ted believed that the abductions either started or augmented their powers.

Great Point! This reinforces the "family tree" idea of monitoring SG's. I've believed all along that we've only been shown a fraction of OWI.

I thought I'd post this:

With these theories considered, there could also be a means of tracking down specific abilities based upon the tracking of standard Mendelian genotypes such as hair and eye color. Two unrelated individuals could have the exact same ability, but have lived separate lives entirely in separate locations and times. The only similarities being physical characteristics such as hair, eye, and skin color. This could aid in determining if, like some diseases, specific genotypes or social groups are more prone to developing a certain series of related abilities than others and in which generations they might occur. Lingering close to eugenetics, this is still a morally tricky subject.

I thought I'd post this:

good post...I think it's interesting that Abu Aswan's ancestors in ancient Egypt 4600 years or so ago, show a clear precedent for inherited abilities. This appeared again in Maury and Matt Parkman, so clearly there's something to it. It could be argued that as commented by Victoria Pratt, Peter looks more like his mother, whereas Arthur and Nathan appear more similiar, point being: Arthur seems to have manifested later in life like Nathan, whereas Angela and Peter were both younger when their abilities emerged.
Aside from that, we know the "pre-Company" that gave Linda Tavara the notebook had some method at their disposal. (Which should have given her pause, why did they need her to track them down, when they had clearly already found her and had generalized locations for everyone else in the first place? That's like hopping in your car, pulling up next to someone at a light and asking them for a ride.) My sense is that whatever system they had was not able to detect whatever people's abiities were, just that they had them. So maybe they assumed Linda's was something that could be useful in that regard. (To which they were sorta right, she was able to detect on sight, due to auras, people wth abilities. I mean, yeah, then she Aura-Vampired them, but hey...whaddyagonnado?)
