I've been thinking a bit about the various girlfriends they've had for Peter over the course of the show, and to be perfectly honest, the only one who's really worked for me is Elle. (And possibly Niki in the Five Years Gone future, but that was more of a dystopian, bleak, dark relationship than something I would like to see long term over the course of the series.)

The problem for me, so far, is that neither Simone nor Caitlin really had personalities or characters outside their romantic relationships--they were boring, and I couldn't wait for them to be written off the show.

Peter/Elle, on the other hand, I thought was fantastic--because Elle was introduced as an interesting character in her own right before she and Peter started interacting, because the characters have a lot of interesting parallels (both of them were, in different ways, raised and used by the Company and their parents for their own evil ends), and because the actors had terrific chemistry.

Thoughts? Opinions?

IMHO, the only relationship of Peter's that stood a chance was his fling with Simone. They seemed to have something going, and she seemed like she actually cared about Peter, which, to me, is something that I look for where Puppy...I mean, Peter...is concerned.
I don't think there was ever anything with Caitlin. We know that Peter is an empath, and personally, I think that he not only absorbs people's powers but a bit of their...personalities? Mindsets? as well. Caitlin clearly had a thing for Peter, maybe he intrigued her, maybe it was lust/desire, maybe something else. And Peter, in his empathic, not-having-any-idea-who-he-is, stockholm syndrome kind of way, "fell in love" with the first person to treat him with anything that remotely resembled kindness.
And don't even get me started on Elle.

I've been thinking about potential long-term romance for Peter, and I was thinking what about Monica.

They're both caring, selfless and brave. They both have a Hero mentality. She's not going to overwhelm him with her power. And she could bring some joy back into his life. Plus, she can take care of herself (after watching a few more martial arts films).

So - Monica and Peter . It could work!

I agree, rout345, that the characters of Simone and Caitlin were weak... but perhaps under-developed is a better word. We got much more of an insight into Elle's character, and some empathy for her unfortunate circumstances, but nothing from Simone or Caitlin. The sad part about that is that Simone and Caitlin were not evolved, and instead of the writers demonstrating their heroic qualities (the hero in all of us), they made them boring.

I think an Elle-Peter romance has more of a chance to electrify the show, but I don't think it will go in that direction. And I'll agree with you, MrsGoogly, that Monica would be an interesting matchup.
