I saw that this morning in my (almost) daily scan for
HEROES news. Didn't feel like postin' it, though.

Wow, to be with someone for 21 years and never able to wed them in the eyes of your government. Such a sadness that we live in such a close minded world, but how wonderful that these two people can finally join their names in a ceremony as old as marriage.
Quite personally, if I were in their shoes, I would say 'F' the whole thing. Why plead to a system that obviously doesn't regard me and my choices? I would've made up my own wedding ceremony long ago and given the bureaucracy/clergy the finger.
I know a lot of people don't agree with same-sex marriage, and that's fine. My stance on the whole thing is that this is a new world. If we continue to follow the letter of law from hundreds/thousands of years ago, then we are doomed to follow in their mistakes. I understand that there is a 'sanctity' to marriage but tell that to the millions of families that divorce, or even worse stay together through abuse and turmoil.
I say judge not by a persons choices in life, but by the substance of their character. Sure, some choices relate directly to character, but I don't think that who you were born to love should judge your character.
