Full Version: Masi's thoughts on Season 2:
9th Wonders Boards > Talk About Heroes > Heroes, Cast, and Crew in the Media > Masi Oka
CharlieNakamura
This is an interview with Masi from the LA Times - promoting Get Smart, but with some interesting Heroes tidbits as well - see it here.

One piece of really good news - it says that they have FOUR episodes in the can! Yay! And this article is dated June 19.

I found this bit interesting:

QUOTE
Like everyone else, he had a few problems with the last season of "Heroes." For one thing, the kendo enthusiast through the show squandered its feudal Japan setting. "It was such a great era full of big samurai sword fights. We did a 10-second one at the end, and it was like, 'Wha? That's it?'" He also thought Hiro shouldn't have moved on to a new girl so soon after Charlie's death. "It's different if Charlie had dumped him or something, but she died! She was murdered! He shouldn't have been in the mood for a rebound."

I totally agree with that! (obviously... laugh.gif )

He also makes a rather vague comment about the whole Hayden/Milo thing.

thanks for the link!

and yes, that was a...strange way of talking about the hayden/milo romance blink.gif

Thanks for sharing the article. Cool to hear more from Masi. I have similar thoughts about season 2, and there's other interesting tid-bit about him as well.

It's cool to see that he has the same views on the second season as we do.

Ooh, can't wait to hear more details about his future projects!

I LOLed at Masi talking about "brother and sister Milo and Hayden", but I do agree, she should be with someone closer to her own age, like me wink.gif

Seems like he was kinda depressed about the lack of swordplay, hopefully we can get Hiro and Adam back together, maybe work swords into the plot for everyone! I would love to see more swordplay, it is so easy to choreograpy beautiful sword fights, I know Heroes would be up for the task of some fighting with weapons in S3.
CharlieNakamura
I remember him making a comment a long time ago (back in S1) about how they were all like a family, and he said that all the guys thought of Hayden like a little sister - specifically, watching out for "older guys" trying to hit on her. blink.gif That made sense at the time, as she was only 16/17 when the show first started. Once she turned 18 though, I guess things changed...

The advantage of Milo and Hayden going out from the other cast members' perspectives is that they don't have to worry he's some random guy who might treat Hayden badly.

Maybe they'll make him one of the writers, since he's got it so completely spot on... smile.gif

Couldn't agree more.

That really just kind of devalued those episodes from season one in a depressing way.

Which is even sadder considering Hiro had about no chemistry at all with Yaeko.

Both of them were just essentially plot device romances but the difference between them is that with Charlie, it worked surprisingly well, Yaeko just fell completely flat.

I actually thought Masi came across as very indirectly, subtly disapproving of "Halo." He's obviously too classy to openly flame his co-stars in the press, but by emphasizing Hayden's youth and little sister qualities and how "we were all like one big family"... it's like, read between the lines.

Maybe I'm way off base, though. I mean at the end of the day it's not his business as long as Hayden and Milo keep it from interfering with work, and Masi himself seems respectful of that fact. So, you know, tempest in a teapot.
Dr. Chaos
Yeah, I think you might be reading too much into it.

He's just being respectful, not trying to pry and generally say as far as he knew, nonthing was happening.

If you try to talk about how Hayden and Milo probably first hit it off, I imagine Milo would come off somewhat creepy.
Leek
I have to agree with the Charlie thing. I mean, Charlie was his looovee! And she represented so much, all the things that Hiro cannot change, even with his powers. So for him to just be head over heels for some new girl...I agree that it was a bit odd. Poor Charlie :/

And for Tim K. to say "well we fail at romances because look at Hiro/Yaeko and Claire/West" which completely ignored Hiro/Charlie... that waaaaaay off base. I mean... they've only done ONE tie-in paperback so far, and look what story it is.
Leek
They don't fail at romances, they just failed at setting them up right. You can't force things on characters because you want more stuff to happen. Hiro's character probably shouldn't have fallen as hard for Yaeko as he did, especially because he didn't seem to miss her to much after he came back. But that wouldn't have heightened the drama enough if it was just a crush, eh?

That and I think there could have been something interesting between Niki and Nathan but it's been kind of left unexplored outside of the realm of sleazy vegas sex.

Definitely not everything they've put together was failed becuase they can't do it.

The reason Claire/West and Yaeko/Hiro bombed is becuase theres no soul to these relationships, they are there just to be there. They don't feel organic at all.

And on a sidenote, if the Claire/West dryheave drama continues in season three...oh boy.

I mean, if they're going to try romance for Claire, which is fine, they really need to get rid of him and start from scratch, especially if they already acknowledge thats not exactly a high point (pardon the sort of pun) for season two.

The last episode pretty much gave them the perfect ticket out of it.
