'HEROES' Producer Sees Upside to File Sharing
By Betsy Schiffman July 03, 2008 | 12:17:41 PMCategories: NBC
Jesse Alexander, co-producer of "HEROES" and "Lost," says file sharing isn't all bad.

It's mighty big of him to admit, given that P2P has undoubtedly eaten away at profits from his shows -- downloads of "HEROES" and "Lost" can run up to 10 million per week.

Alexander sees the silver lining, though.

"People watching shows such as 'Lost' and 'HEROES' (HERΟ here - editin' some wording) [through file sharing] is the present world reality," Alexander said. "TV Networks have to recognize this, give their viewers more ways to interact with the shows, and find ways to generate revenue from every member of the global audience."

Incidentally, Alexander is also reportedly working on a 13-part TV show about piracy.
So, I didn't know he was a co-producer of LOST. And I guess without the filesharing, the people of France couldn't have known about HEROES to give 'em a Jules Verne Award (info near the middle of the page)...

Well, that's nice of him to be so giving. I forgive him for being credited as the writer for my least favorite episodes of Heroes, which in my opinion are better than three episodes of almost any other show I've watched, legally or pirated or watched on a certain network's website, which has all four seasons of its only good show in streaming HD, using an adblocker. Hint: the show rhymes with tossed.

Yeah, I've never seen file sharing episodes as a bad thing, since it brings in new viewers from other countries where they don't air it. And people also use them for fan videos, which is pretty much free advertisement. I'm glad they're beginning to see that as well.

Ah, I'm sure they already knew this, they just started to admit it publicly. rolleyes.gif
