Great episode. Tied up some loose ends from previous ones, although the Hiro/Ando stabbing is still ridiculous.

I second aulduron. I feel like this episode brought the series back on track. We had the drama with Daphne trying to decide what to do in terms of Pinehearst and it's ideas and that between Peter and Sylar. We also had the awesome powers with their fight, plus the whole Tracy/Mohinder/Nathan thing. And then we had a pretty awesome cliffhanger with Peter loosing his powers.
then there where the life lessons, new powers being discovered, and people being held captive.
LOVED IT!

I liked it and didn't think it had a lot of flaws but at the same time I didn't find it spectacular (I liked the previous episode more.) I am pretty satisfied that we got two not-bed episodes in a row.
Highlights for me were the Russian roulette scene, that was pretty interesting. Peter and Sylar fighting is pretty awesome; the role reversal was great and I'm glad to see more display of powers, even if some shots looked a little phony. Arthur's presence is interesting as well. I have no qualms with death of Adam but I think he had enough fans that some people are going to be ******. Overall it was a decent episode.
(I'm wondering why Arthur, Peter, and Sylar share similarities power-wise where as people like Claire [or Micah [what the hell happened to him?]] have powers completely unrelated to their parents.)

Definitely the best episode of the season. I loved the "go back to a minute before he hit you with a shovel" part. I can't wait for next week. My only complaint about the show this year is it took too long to get to this episode.

I have to agree with auldoron aswell, just a really fun hour.
Best episode of the season thus far, had a lil bit of everything (it needed) with a clever resolution to the Hiro kills Ando eye opener from last week.
And thank goodness for Arthur.

Puppetman was awesome, Russian Roulette was great idea if a bit anticlimactic, good to see Peter brought down from his ultimate powers finally.

So much better than last week's effort! This episode rocked. Just the right pace, just the right direction, and a whopper of a surprise ending. Very nice, guys. Well done this week.
They brought Adam back just long enough to kill him? No! I like David! Keep him around! Although the Adam/Arthur reunion scene was all kinds of awesome, with a very Whedon-esque death for poor Adam, and the coolest special effect of the whole show as Arthur sits up and pulls the tracheotomy tube from his neck. But how did Angela see Adam in the Level 5 slaughter in the future if he's been dusted? What does this make Arthur's power? Does he absorb people's lives? Or life force? He didn't kill Peter in the end, so maybe he can elect how much to drain from a person: just skim abilities off the top, or hold on longer and suck their body completely dry of everything. Does this mean Arthur is Sylar's dad, too (since their powers are somewhat similar), and Peter, Nathan, and Sylar are all full brothers, not half as some suspect? There's no extra Angela Baby Daddy?
"High five, turtle." I adore Greg Grunberg! Matt's arrival at the airport--turtle in tow--was fabulous. "This is getting kind of stalky, so..." They were... hmm. I'm glad the road to romance doesn't look like an easy one for them. This initial groundwork was well done, and it whet my appetite for more of them... I'm okay with this so far.
"Hello? Mr. African Isaac?" Loved the shovel attacks, as well as Hiro's slight recognition of Matt in Usutu's painting followed by Ando's dismissive "They all look alike to me," and Hiro's "That's racist." :-) Glad we're getting more time with Usutu. I'd have been disappointed if they'd just used him as a tool for the first two episodes.
Jessalyn must have been getting so tired holding her arms in dance position during those long scenes. I hope they had her on wires or something. And I was simultaneously impressed and disappointed by the puppet man scene. Once his game was put in motion it was pretty obvious to see where this was going--someone shoots Claire with the roulette bullet, she heals, everyone goes home happy. Still, all three women and Mr. Puppet turned in fabulous performances. Weepy Blonde Moment of the Week goes to Hayden for this scene. Good job, sweetie.
Peter and Sylar's escape from Level 5 was awesome, though I was really bugged by Peter's anger at Sylar for saddling him with his burdensome ability. Peter, you asked for it, you begged him for it, you idiot! But I really enjoyed how Sylar approached Peter to talk to him, and Milo's bolting from the table as he realized who was looming over him was fabulous. Another thing I don't understand about their little jailbreak, though, is if Sylar wanted so badly to check on Coma!Angela, why didn't he just touch her and find out everywhere she's been? He was given that ability post-virus, he should still have it.
The fight scene between Sylar and Peter was eight different levels of amazing. I loved it. I've been really enjoying the gentle transition of Sylar into Peter and Peter into Sylar over the last few episodes, with Sylar insisting this week that he could learn to suppress his urge to kill and knowing that he accomplishes it in the future gives him hope. Meanwhile we have Peter claiming to be "the most special": a phrase we've heard several times from Sylar in the past (and, technically, in the future when Nathan!Sylar is speaking to Claire in 1x20). I also liked how many powers Peter exhibited this week, considering he lost them all in the final moments. What all did we get to see him do? Blue flames, electricity, telekinesis, invisibility, teleportation, mind reading, healing, flight... did I miss any?
So, after my big spiel about what last week's title referred to, I'm wondering what "Dying of the Light" means, too. Anyone got ideas? I did a quick search about the title and found it's a line from a Dylan Thomas poem: "Do not go gentle into that good night/Rage, rage against the dying of the light," as well as the title of a 1977 science fiction novel about a rogue planet drifting too far away from the sun "into a region of cold and dark where no life will survive." I like both of these references. The poetic reference makes me think of Sylar battling against his inner demons, as well as Arthur refusing to die and taking extreme measures to keep his grip on this life at all costs. The novel reference leans more toward the characters themselves, drifting further from Good into a cold place where everyone is a monster and a shell of their old selves, soulless and greedy. Fabulous use of a title, guys.
Can't wait til next week!
Bits and Pieces:
- Mohinder is voicing the opening monologue again! I wonder why last week was Nathan?
- Thank you for explaining the Ando death! I wouldn't have stood for it if we'd had to wait for more than a few scenes for the explanation. YoungPC's comment on Ando's death: "Nice fall."
- Awesome line: "Your father always said, one of us, one of them. I'm the one of us." Go Sandra. :-)
- He's going to make Meredith fall in love with him again? Ew. Eric is nasty. Reminds me of Timothy Spall.
- Daphne can take people with her when she runs? How do Daphne's powers work on Level 5? They can't be completely blunted, because Sylar and others have exhibited their abilities in their cells, but they're still muted enough that Hiro and Peter weren't able to teleport out. How do those cells work?
- Bad Claire wig these days. Let the character cut her hair to match, please: extensions and wigs always look awful.
- Claire will be so ****** if HRG passes her over in order to work with Meredith instead...
- I'm unsure what Mohinder's doing, collecting people... What's he using them for? What's his end game? I liked how Tracy freed herself and Nathan, though. Nice use of the power.
:-)

Nothing too plot twisty this week, but either way, there was a lot of surprise and suspense, and it kept me fully enthralled for the full hour+.
Not the most incredible episode of all time, but I definitely enjoyed it and intend to watch it again this week.

I don't think that would have told him what was wrong with her though, I don't think that power could be expected to tell you where someone went in your dreams. Peter also didn't try giving her his blood so I think they might have just chose to keep the plot moving instead of cycling powers for a few moments.

Amazing episode. I loved how they not only limited Hiro's use of his time travel (I like how they keep reinforcing the idea that he shouldn't use it, it helps keep things realistic, and gives other, more exciting options, instead of "go back one minute before he hit you with the shovel!"), but how they did it in such an insanely funny manner. I freaking loved the shovel scene, and I loved the second shovel scene even more.
Matt and Daphne were cute, especially with the lil pet turtle. I think this is probably the first relationship I actually like, it felt real, and Greg did a great job, and Brea was also awesome, especially with her conflicting emotions.
Sylar and Peter were great together, they really had a good on screen chemistry, and Peter was insane. I like the direction Sylar is taking, and it really seems like a genuine, understandable, realistic change in him. It is completly in line with his character, and I 100% approve.
And finally, RIP Adam, and WTF Arthur! We lose a good villian, but gain a great one. Papa Petrelli looks to be a great addition, and he also has the benefit of being completly insane. Crazy ******, and crazy Power. I love the link between Peter, Arthur, and Gabriel's Powers. Poor Nathan is like the outside man now, he used to be all special, but now he is almost not even a Petrelli.
This episode is made of awesomeness.

Great episode. I mostly enjoyed the way Daphne was darting in and out of all of the stories. You can see her expressions each time, and they are something like "What have I gotten myself into?" and "This is not just a game."
Like the first season, we got to see heroes for the first time struggle with confrontations and now we see her more and more struggle with the reality that there are some horrible people out there. Her character personality is great and fits very well with someone who is the one weaving in and out of all the other hero's lives.

GoldenGait, the phrase "dying of the light" apparently bundles the implication 'fight until the very end,' given it's context in the Dylan Thomas poem. Now I've never read that poem myself, though I really should, but the Wikipedia article does a good enough job exploring it. The quote's major draws to the episode as far as I'm concerned are Tracy's resourceful escape from Mohinder's clutches and Peter's down-right feisty and confrontational fisticuff with his father (that's a pretty weak connection though). It's most clearly defined tie, however, lies within Meredith, Claire, and Sandra's defeat of Eric Doyle, despite the disheartening odds.
Anyways, in my opinion, the literary references alone make Heroes worth watching. Go writers!

Wow, this was a REALLY good episode!! It really solved a LOT of the mess that season 3 started to create. I'm liking where the direction of the series is going. There was a number of things I liked about this ep:
1. Peter lost his powers!! He was becoming way too powerful for his own good, as well as for the series' good.
2. They showed that indestructible people can die (and I really like how Adam disintegrated after losing his power)
3. Hiro and Ando finally had some funny moments this season.
4. Lots of action. The fight Peter and Sylar had was great. Their show down during homecoming and S1 finale should have been more like that.

What I liked:
- Hiro/Ando FINALLY not at each others' throats and the whole African Isaac thing was great. And I totally called the stabbing thing too.
- Parkman was great and is the one person this whole season that's been so likeable. I really look forward to all his scenes. (But no, you can't just pick up a tortoise in Africa and carry him home under your arm.)
- The Puppetmaster roulette scene was the showpiece of the episode. Despite the dumb way that they all arrived in that position, it was one long scene we could really sink our teeth into (not choppy!) in a contained environment that was based on the characters and their relationships with each other -- that dynamic, that vibe, is what's been missing from the show.
Annnnd.. that's about it.

I posted this in the "Best/Worst" lines thread but it's relevant here:
Love love LOVED this episode! The Hiro and Ando scenes were my favorite. When Ando was like, "They all look the same to me," and Hiro responded with "That's Racist" I lol'ed hard. xD
The "go back in time one minute!" thing was funny as well. What Ando said was the kind of question people would ask anyone with a time traveling ability, and the scene sort-of shows that going back in time won't fix everything.
The best single line this episode was "High five turtle!" simply because Turtle is awesome.
The next best thing was the Sylar/Peter fight. It made complete sense for that to happen, and I loved how tired and angry Milo looked this episode. When Peter was beating up Sylar and said the line "I'm the special one!" I just about cheered out loud! Sylar totally deserved it anyway.
I actually liked the Claire storyline. Even though it was a tad predictable, I loved the suspense, and the way that Doyle forced Claire to "choose" between her two mothers was nice. Doyle made Meredith realize how she really was just "the hot aunt" and not Claire's "real" mother. It's nice character development for all of them, IMO.
I'm starting to like Daphne, she's getting in everyone's business.
And finally... PETER LOSING HIS POWERS! That was a really unexpected moment for me. I wonder what Powerless Peter is going to do now.

I enjoyed this episode a lot. We got a retcon scene where Hiro reveals that he told Ando to fake his death, and then he goes to a store to get a fake sword (I definitely saw that coming). The scenes where Hiro revisits past scenarios were awesome, and I've always loved them in media. Adam's death scene was great, and although I didn't want him to die, I'm glad another former main character has been killed off. I also liked the scenes between Matt and Daphne, as the chemistry seemed to be there.
The Peter/Sylar fight was awesome, and I literally gave the episode a thumbs=up when it ended with Arthur telling Peter that he lost his powers.

This episode for now sits among my favorite of this season.
- I wasn't surprised but was pleased by Hiro's faking of Ando's death.
- I liked the growth in Daphne's character.
- Grunberg's character was low key but enjoyable to watch.
- The turtle has replaced Mr. Muggles as my favorite four-legged hero!
- Adam's death shocked me but worked for me...
- Papa Petrelli is a scary scary man!
- I loved Hiro's lesson in Africa
- The conflict between Mohinder and his would-be prey, including Daphne, Nathan and Nikki/Jessica/Whoever she is. I loved how Daphne was able to frustrate Mohinder's efforts to thwart her, but Nathan and icey-one did reasonably well too. Fun all around.
- Daphne's treatment in Sylar's cell was a great moment too... I was caught between cheering for Sylar and worrying about Daphne, who I didn't want to die. Fortunately she made her escape well when she had the chance. (Heroes is a dangerous world)
- The battle between the two Petrelli brothers, Sylar and Peter, was sad but awesome

- I expected Peter to die in his dad's embrace, but him losing his powers was fantastic.
I rated this episode with five stars. I don't believe it was the best ever, but it ranks among the best for me.

This show is so awesome!Last season I wasn't sure I would like this show again, but I was wrong. I hated Sylar but, I really liked the direction they are going with him now, you never know if he's going to remain good or go back to his old ways.
I really like that they have a super-villain in Arther Petrelli.
I hope Parkman gets to meet Daphne again.
It was cool to see Peter act bad-******, even if it was short-lived, he owned Sylar this time.
I hope they bring Elle back to join Sylar, Peter (if he gets his powers back), and the rest for a epic battle to try and take Arthur down, though I'm not sure they can do it.

Overall I thought this was a good episode. I liked the Russian Roulette scene although it was pretty obvious what the results were going to be. Hiro wasn't as annoying and I loved the shovel painting (especially the second one). Hiro needed to hear that he needs to use his head and not just his power. Hopefully he'll smarten up a bit this season. Parkman and Daphne seems a little weird right now. And Daphne is right that its totally stalkerish. I think she'll likes that Matt is an actual nice guy though. The Mohinder stuff was probably the part of the show I didn't like as right now it seems so unconnected to the rest of the story.
Of course my favourite part was the Petrelli story. The Peter/Sylar fight was awesome!
Hated that Adam died but what an entrance for Arthur. And pruning such a large cast isn't a bad thing in the long run. We can still enjoy Adam in flashbacks I'm sure.

Great episode. I totally enjoyed myself during anything involving Hiro, Ando, Usutu, Matt, Daphne and the turtle. I loved the macabre scenes with Claire and her two mothers. Arthur Petrelli is one awesome villain, and I can't wait to see where all of this is leading - most of all, powerless Peter and Mohinder.
I finally think I can say it safely: GREAT season!

I loved every aspect of this episode, even the Mohinder stuff! This really reminded me of Season 1, you had all the really dark villains stuff, with Mohinder, Arthur, and Doyle. Yet, you had a great amount of humor, with Hiro ("That's racist.") and Matt ("Hi five Turtle!") to name a couple of the plethora of lines that had me cracking up. Also, I read a couple spoilers for this episode (Ando's alive!

, Adam's dead

), but both of those scenes were so well done that I found myself jumping up and down, giddy beyond belief. Plus, Peter's use of flight to rocket into Sylar was one of the few times I cheered. Peter vs. Sylar Round 4 was AMAZING, and as short as it was, it pwned Round 3 in 1.23 "How to Stop an Exploding Man."
Dr. Chaos

Some more positive musings about moments that had me intrigued:
Sylar is in a position right now where he can either really change or just fall back into bad habits with just a few nudges, Peter knows this more than anybody because he saw a good man in the future.
Peter beating the crap out of Sylar was one of those situations that while it was certainly fun to watch, it kind of made me flinch a lil too at the same time, every moment he has with Gabriel is more important than he realizes.
Rehabilitation doesn't start with snapping your brother's neck and them maiming him in a hallway, Petey, but you got the hunger so I forgive you.

I mean, sure, he killed you twice and raped your niece's brain but...okay, I don't actually have a counterpoint to that but hopefully Peter finds some way over this and taps into his empathetic nature to help Sylar (once he gets over his own issues which are in question since it can be assumed Arthur has his powers, including Sylar's) becuase once Nathan finds out..once
Nathan finds out...then the **** is really going to hit the fan.
They can't make a barricade powerful enough to stop him from putting his hands on Sylar.

Sorry this is so ridiculously late, but I had to miss the episode and just got the opportunity to watch it. Hurray! Another episode that I can give a positive review! I have no idea why Mohinder is
giving the opening soliloquy again. I thought Nathan stepping into that role was an
appropriate response to Mohinder's changing condition. Apparently Nathan was just better
suited to delivering a little speech on that particular subject matter? Who knows?
Speaking of Mohinder, what's with grabbing Tracy's hand when he just saw what she could do to
his medical equipment? Clearly this geneticist is no longer morally sound, but must they turn
him into a raging idiot, as well?
So Parkman returned from somewhere in Africa with a hopefully plague-free turtle that I know
he didn't get through customs and quarantine in the usual way. Think Obi Wan at the Storm
Trooper checkpoint in Episode Four (the first movie.)
Parkman: "This is not the turtle you are looking for."
US Custom's official: "This is not the turtle we are looking for!"
(Just in case there isn't already sufficient proof that I'm a geek!)
I was rather relieved by the fact that Daphne didn't find the claim that they are soul mates
any more compelling than I do. Come on, if she did, wouldn't you wonder?
Ando lives. This came as no surprise to me. However, I'm glad my suspicions were correct
about Hiro using his power's to fake Ando's death. As I said last week, Hiro has no business
being a villain. At least one character on the show needs to be remain free from corruption.
I loved Hiro's attempts to sneak up on a precog. The background art just made the whole thing
the perfect sight gag, or should I say foresight gag? Perhaps in Usutu, Hiro has finally
found the sort of mentor that he and Ando have been needing all along?
Unlike many I absolutely loved Adam's death scene, not that I had anything against Adam. I
did think they did a nice job of showing what happens to a 600 year old man once his power of
immortal regeneration has been stolen. That scene was a nice surprise too. I just figured
Arthur wanted his blood, or even his power (if I had been correct about Arthur being an
empathic mimic like Peter.) I never expected that Arthur was a kleptosentient. (I don't think
that's really a word but apparently he has to touch people to steal powers.) It's clear now
why other villains fear him. In fact I'm wondering why Maury didn't take him out with a fire
ax to the head when Arthur was still bed-ridden. It would have seemed the sensible thing to
do.
I was a little disappointed with the Puppeteer's game of Russian Roulette. First of all, a
game like that doesn't seem nearly creepy enough to interest somebody like Doyle. Secondly,
as soon as the game was chosen, we all knew exactly how it would end. Claire getting shot
just isn't all that exciting anymore. I'm also sort of sad that Doyle is out of commission
already. That's assuming someone beefs up security at the company of course, which is
starting to look a lot like a revolving door. Perhaps Bennet has learned from all his past
mistakes and knows a good place to dump bodies?
Sylar's scenes this week were some of the most disappointingly dialogued in memory. Peter's
incessant whining blaming Sylar, when Peter wanted to unlock that power and achieved that
with the help of not Sylar but Sylar's future self who bothered to warn him of the danger-
that whole thing was a little embarrassing to watch. I suppose the ending transformed this
conversation into something like- be careful what power you wish away. I did smile when Sylar
finally observed, "This isn't about us, Peter..." Thank you! How sad that was Sylar's best
line this week. Their fight scene was far better entertainment, though I still find it sort
of silly when fists are used with so many powers available. I guess somebody might argue that
fists make it more personal and manly somehow, or the real answer that it's cheaper than SFX.
Speaking of all those powers, I was relieved when Peter went and gave his pops a big hug for
putting his mother into a coma. Peter's powers were getting far too godlike for his own good
or for the good of the show's story line. If Peter is the one that Kring spoke about, the
character we already know who is taking Mohinder's place as the 'normal' hero among the
'supers' I think he is the best choice from the list of all possible characters. The very
fact that he is a Petrelli puts him firmly at the center of the conflict.
I noticed Arthur didn't suffer from what I used to call 'The Peter Syndrome' of not knowing
how his new powers work or what to do to control them. This is what I thought would become of
Peter eventually (minus the evil overlord part) once he had Sylar's intuitive aptitude under control.
I guess we'll have to see how the 'hunger' side effect from Sylar's IA power plays out in
Arthur, unless Arthur already has IA from someone else, I suppose.
I also noticed that Arthur has changed the timeline, for better or worse. First he killed
Adam who seen by Angela as one of the villains she faced in a previous vision. Second, he
took Peter's powers. Now there is no future time-travelling Peter with the scar anymore, at
least until Peter gets his original power back. Maybe this temporary absence of powers
explains how Peter got a scar in the first place! I for one am looking forward to next week's
episode!
