I missed the first five minutes. But overall it was pretty good. Not spectacular but good. I liked a lot of the plot developments with the exception of killing off Matt's dad. I'm not really a big fan of any given hero being killed off. I liked the Elle/Claire scenes.

Tracy/Meredith/Nathan/H.R.G scene = Best of the whole season in my opinion. I loved the awkwardness, and the tension was amazing!

This episode kicked major BUTT in my opinion. It was so dramatic and suspenseful and everything I love in Heroes! It was amazing!! biggrin.gif

I loved this episode! It reminded me of first season in that:

a: There were no HUGE bombshells, but there were enough suprising moments to make it really interesting without making it look like the writers are trying too hard.
b: I couldn't believe an entire hour had gone by when the "to be continued" appeared on the screen. I seriously thought for a few seconds that the episode was shorter than usual.
c: I can't wait to see the next episode. When I first watched the first season (on DVD, I admit) I would watch 6 or 7 episodes in succession. That's what I would have done with this and the next. For sure.

Seems like the season might have hit it's stride with the last episode.

I've enjoyed S3 from the first episode but it feels like now that all the pieces are in play, they're ready to start hitting the high notes.

Also, I loved Matt in this ep. He wasn't afraid, he was ready for Knox, and he got things done. Everything we always knew he was capable of.

He is the silent Hero, if you ask me.

Continuing my obsession with this season's episode titles, I have some thoughts about Eris Quod Sum. It means "I am what you will be" and is a very old, Latin phrase used traditionally on gravestones. Which is just an awesome title: it invokes such a feeling of foreboding. Are they referring to sons becoming their fathers? Peter or Sylar into Arthur, and Matt into Maury? Are they making a specific reference to death (especially since they showed us the "death" of four main characters in this hour)? Are they referring to the millions of people with no current abilities who will soon purchase the serum and become what the heroes are?

And I know I've said this before, but I'm really quite impressed with the literary, poetic, and cultural references they've been making with this season's titles. Thinking back to season one, we had a bunch of Duh Titles: Homecoming, Parasite, 0.7%, Run!, Five Years Gone, Hiros, etc. Season two was only slightly less banal: Four Months Later, Fight or Flight, Powerless, Cautionary Tales, etc. This season we've had a reference to Yeats for 3x01, a nod to chaos theory at the turn of the century (1890-1906) for 3x02, a line from a Hindu epic poem and a quote from a nuclear scientist for 3x04, a reference to a 70s science fiction movie and a early 20th century poem written for a dying father for 3x06, and now this Latin headstone inscription. Very cool.

Very nice use of exposition: Peter's flashbacks of his father was a nice way to reiterate the storyline without the exposition seeming forced. And I loved Arthur's, "Son, until you change that attitude, you're grounded." Kind of cheesy, but enjoyable nonetheless.

The reveal of Elle in the Bennet's house, twitchy and barely in control of herself, was well done. I wasn't expecting that at all. I liked her unflinching attempt at electrocuting Claire, as well as how Claire dragged Elle towards the front door by her hair (cat fight!). I felt so bad for poor Elle, strung out and OD'ing on her own power, and just looking for a kind father figure to tell her everything's going to be all right. Also, did anyone else notice the two Wizard of Oz references in this scene? Lyle stops Elle in her tracks by throwing a bucket of water on her, and the final line of the scene was Elle's, "Okay, Dorothy. Let's go see the wizard."

Arthur's, "Have you met their mother?" explanation for why he faked his own death was funny. Now that's what I call an acrimonious split. But what I want to know is why Mohinder took Maya with him? Haven't they only known each other for a couple weeks? Couple days? I didn't believe his profession of "feelings" at all. But it's time for the Happy Dance! Maya doesn't have a power anymore! She can go home!

Angela's "Make Mommy proud," was creepy, but goodness: the way the door flew across the room as Sylar twitched two fingers and escaped was cool. That's one of my favorite Sylar moves: the conservation of movement badassness. (My two favorites of all time were his flinging of HRG against the wall of his cell--"That was for the haircut,"--and the way he flipped the police van that Ted was being transported in.)

Arthur's using his own son to test Mohinder's formula? That's cold. And I was wondering how long it would be before we were treated to a Sylar/Mohinder battle now that both of them are a little more evenly matched, and especially now that their outlooks on life, morality, and the use of abilities have undergone... rearrangement. But I was a little disappointed. Sylar just doesn't fight back anymore. These showdowns are no fun if Sylar just lays there and gets pummeled. This did clear up something for us all, though: Sylar is Arthur's son. No mystery Baby Daddy here.

"...Reminder for passengers to turn off all electrical equipment!" Funny line, fabulous character scene for both of them, but who in the world thought it would be a good idea to put that girl on a plane? Dumb. That's the one mode of transportation that I would think would be immediately ruled out when planning this little Sisterhood of the Traveling Powers road trip. Which is what it should have been. A road trip. On the ground. Still, aside from that, I loved the scene. Kristen Bell really impressed me in this episode. Kudos, babe.

Maury's dead? Maury's dead? Whoa! Where did that come from? I was super confused at this point. So Angela's latest vision is completely rewritten now, right? Two of the villains are dead. After a moment I let Maury's death go, but when Matt and Daphne both apparently bought the farm, I had to cry foul on theirs. No way was this actually happening. Not that I minded the obvious false-plot; I figured there would be a decent explanation. I could even have gone along with both Maury and Daphne being killed (easily and boringly), but Matt was too much. And once this bout of fake character deaths is over, Heroes, please quit it. Ando, Maury, Daphne, Matt... We're just not getting faked out anymore. This is turning into The Boy Who Cried Wolf. (I'm putting Maury in the "fake death" category because of all the other fake deaths this week, and because I think Maury made Daphne see that in order to convince her Arthur meant business. He's still manipulating her into recruiting Matt.)

I liked the suspension of Sylar in Arthur's office and the revelation that Angela tried to drown Baby!Gabriel. (If we can trust a single thing Arthur says.) But once again--what's with the fake deaths? You're not going to kill off Peter, and trying to make us believe it as the cliffhanger before a commercial break was just silly. And to expect us to believe that he fell that far and not die? I thought it was pretty obvious immediately that Sylar had tossed him out the window and then buffered his fall with telekinesis in order to save his brother. Still... Kind of cool. I'm curious where they're going with Sylar's allegiance here.

Ohhh... Bring on the exposition with Tracy, Nathan, HRG, and Meredith. I understand the relationships of this show are a little convoluted and complicated at this point, and I understand that new viewers are probably totally confused by all the heroic inbreeding there seems to be, but I didn't like Ali's delivery here about Claire's family. Exposition is often necessary, but there is a way it can be done that doesn't seem obvious, awkward, or heavy-handed. This attempt was all three of those. But speaking of awkward, the three-way "Soooo..." look between Tracy, Meredith, and Nathan after HRG walks away was actually very funny.

I liked the first few moments between Peter and Nathan when Peter revealed that their father was still alive. But just the first few moments. The acting continued to be good, given what was scripted for them, but Nathan took the news of a resurrected father amazingly well. "Seriously? Dad's alive? Nah. He's dead. Really? Are you sure he's alive? Huh. Okay." Little more confusion here was necessary. And does Nathan know Sylar's their brother, too?

Bits and Pieces:
  • Turtle sighting!
  • Daphne just looks so tiny next to Matt! They don't look like a good, believable couple. Not visually, anyway.
  • No more flame-in-the-palm gags! Just stop. I'm getting really bugged here.
  • Wow. Tiny Hiro clip this week. I'm guessing next week will be Hiro's vision? I'm on board.
To wrap up my review this week, I have a slightly off-topic funny finding to share with you. I was doing some research on neonatal amniotic band syndrome and I ran across a 2000 article in the Archives of Diseases in Childhood called "Fetal acalvaria with amniotic band syndrome." And the author of this commentary on the non-genetic causes of a rare birth defect? Dr. Chandran Suresh. :-) Not kidding, look it up! (True, it would be cooler if that "n" wasn't at the end, but still, I got a big kick out of it.)

Overall a good episode. Wasn't spectacular but had the elements that made season 1 good.

So many people posting negative already that I felt I had to add more to the positive! In all honesty, this was the episode out of all so far that really gripped me, made me cling to the edge of my seat and wait for the commercials to end so I can see what's going to happen. I think the writers did an excellent job and we saw alot of the characters back in true form. LOVED it. The "one-liners" people had problems with added some comedic relief to an intense episode, which made it so wonderful!

Heroes is back in action for good!!

So far I've been camping firmly on the side of the river marked "not impressed" but this episode... wow.

I've literally been sat here for 5 weeks WAITING for this episode... well, not this episode literally, but an episode that would have me gripped for 45 minutes without my mind straying.

It felt like a MAJOR return to form, and by which I mean Season 1 standard, easy.

The only problem I see with it is the things that happened didn't have as much impact due to the episodes that preceeded it, by all rights this should have been episode 10/11 and the previous episodes should have contained more exposition and furthered the characters, stretching 6 episodes into 9 would have been hitting a good speed.

Peter's fall would have had more impact (especially going into a break!) if we had seen him more than once an episode and Matt's Daphneitis would be more believable if he had been pining for a few more episodes but still, I'm glad we've finally reached this point of steadily-paced, exciting storytelling.

I'm surprised at how believable I found Sylar's actions this episode, I found his transformation rushed and unbelievable, but now he's actually proved he's changed I feel that there's a sense of excitement and closure about the whole "I'm trying to change but it's hard wah wah wah" fiasco we had been forced to endure. Plus, he busts out of Primatech and into Pinehearst like they're both made of crate paper: HELL YEAH!

Claire and Elle felt real in this episode. I always love seeing Elle as a character and Claire is normally a little flat but those two play off each other so well I was actually bummed when Elle chose not to stay with Claire. An excellent job by the writers there. The way this season was going the plane scene could easily have never existed but if they had both just appeared at Primatech it would have felt rushed and poor. The writers took their time, created a great scene AND furthered the characters in a believable and genuinely interesting way (well, when I say believable I don't mean in a "hey, let's get on a plane even though you're hemmoraging lightning" way, in more of a "let's strip Elle bare, rip away the tough exterior and let Claire show compassion to set-up her eventual bad-****** turn" kinda way)

I could have done with the whole Nathan/Peter scene starting off the next episode I think. It felt a little on the hasty side. Surely Nathan would ask more questions?? I imagine they're probably saving on time for Episode 8 though, which, if it carries on this slower, steadier pace, is a wise decision.

Oh, and finally, as much as I think Usutu is a great character "eat my magical poo" isn't quite doing it for me. Anyone can see the future? Really? Meh, it's only a problem if they use it badly, which remains to be seen.

Up until now I had been stewing, writing in the Negative threads and voicing my displeasure at this season's season-two-ness, but I can now honestly say that if this is Season 3 finding it's voice, then it can sing me a sweet, sweet tune until the cows come home.

Ive watched every Monday since the series premiere and have lately started
losing interest - but this episode was GREAT!

The scene with Peter dodging the bolts of electricity was a long time coming.
They waited until he lost his powers to make him a competent fighter? Fair enough, lol.

Sylar has regained his confidence! (Just as his whiny self-loathing has become 3 episodes too old.)

Arthur's characterization seems a bit off to me, but overall I *love* his presence on the show.
He let Maya leave, he was patient with Mohinder and Peter but at other times he just kills
like its nothing? It doesnt seem consistent.

A defenestrated Peter made me jump out of my seat for the first time this season!

And you gotta love fire standing awkwardly beside ice!

Hey, check it out, I'm in the Positive Reviews section. Fie to all you naysayers who have been whining at me for the past month. wink.gif

My one and only complaint is the somewhat clunky dialogue that the actors managed to make work anyway. Otherwise...

I'm just freaking RELIEVED to have Peter back. You have NO idea. Truly. Dark!Peter was sucking out my very soul.

Can't wait for more.

Thank god, my show seems to be coming back.

I LOVED this episode!!! When Sylar says "Hello Mohinder" and just smashes him against the wall I was freaking out! I keep reading complaints from people even though this is the "positive" thread.. So I guess I'll add a complaint: The episode should have been another hour longer!!! Great job, Heroes cast and crew!

It seems to me that every episode this season is getting better and better. In fact, there were only two things I didn't like about this episode: The "To Be Continued . . ." screen and the "In two weeks" promo. Here's hoping there's still a graphic novel next week to tide us over. I can't wait to see how it all plays out.

5+++

These episodes just keep getting better. After I watched this episode I couldn't help thinking, "Amazing! I cannot wait until Series 3 comes out on DVD!" --- I'll be buying it on Day One! Won't you?

I am really looking forward to the next episode. I love backstory episodes like Company Man or Six Months Ago. The last two episodes were the best this year. I'm assuming that Maury must have made Nathan and the others think Arthur died of a heart attack. Nathan told Peter he was there and saw proof he was dead. I wonder if there is any possibility that Maury made Arthur think he killed him like Matt did with Knox. I doubt it but that would be interesting.

Perfect episode or most perfect episode? Perfect or not, this is now my favorite episode of season 3. The Elle/Claire scenes were fantastic, up to when they met with Peter and Elle rushed inside the building. Can't wait to see what happens to her up there. Arthur is doing a good job as a villain, seeing as I still think he's a ******.

Maya has finally gotten rid of her ability and is going back home. Nice way to wrap up her storyline. Has it been wrapped up though?

Meredith meeting Nathan again was great, and I think she makes a good partner for Noah. Also, I thought Matt and Daphne had died, until the whole scene changed due to Matt's ability.

And last, but not least, the Peter/Sylar/Mohinder Pinehearst scenes. They were suspenseful, full of action and well-elaborated.

I give this a 5/5.

Seems like the season might have hit it's stride with the last episode.

I've enjoyed S3 from the first episode but it feels like now that all the pieces are in play, they're ready to start hitting the high notes.

Ya! I totally agree.. Everything is in place now so it feels like everything is just about to begin

i gave this epi a 4/5, mostly because the last two epis had a ton of fights.
Overall, I did enjoy the progression of the story line. I'm glad Maya got her powers taken and shes gone. I always felt she was a bit superfluous to the show.
I totally giggled when nate, meredith and tracy were all just standing around staring, "ring, ring" and nathan was outta there, so funny. Also loved HRG sensing the tension and leaving as well, never enough HRG for me!
A lot of conficted alliances and possible future backstabbing could happen. Is Sylar faking to take down Art, or is he really with him. Daphne, cool with Matt or still watching out for just herself? (sidenote) I really am starting to like Daphne and Brea Grant is most def pleasing to the eye!
Elle/Claire was good, somewhat predictable but I enjoy the back and forth between the two, and like Brea I am always good with watching K Bell.
Good epi, sets the stage for the remainder of the season
Blaize
I actually liked this Ep A lot, it had a few twists and turns which I actually liked, Sylar helping Peter, Peter in turn going back for Sylar, Sylar stopping Peter from going Splat, Claire and Elle scenes were just <3...The whole Tracy, Nathan, Meredith, Noah scene was just great.
I'm now worried about Elle tho...her going into Pinehearst worries me as I love the character, and Kristen is just a nice bonus biggrin.gif
I gave the ep 5/5 since I was impressed from start to finish.
NeoPhoenix
I've been on the fence with this season so far, but if this episode is any indication, then it seems like Heroes is back to season one form. I really enjoyed most of this episode. biggrin.gif

Im a pretty hardcore fan about heroes. I loved season 1 as everyone did.

Season 2 was ruined because of the writers strike.

And I absolutley love Season 3. Every episode gets better than the last.

I just want people to realize that Heroes can never be Season 1 again. Season 1 was all about the characters being ordinary people LEARNING their abilities.. Now they are EXTRODINARY people with EXTRA EXTRAORDINARY abilities.

The best they can do is take elements from Season 1 and use them in this season. Although I do agree that the exploding person thing has been done... But hey.. Why cant it happen again? Especially under the circumstances Sylar is put under...

Season 3 isnt ALL based around Costa Verde blowing up either. Hiro is doing his own thing trying to prevent Tokyo from exploding from who knows what, Claire is finally being used as a valuable character(unlike season 2) by using her ability instead of whining all the time, There is SOOOO much action an special effects now!! This is what we used to gripe about their not being enough of! Now we get it ALL the time.

Heroes has evolved just as much as the characters in the show have. Season 3 is going places(hopefully). All the characters need to be tied back together to resolve the whole plot for the season to be superb.

And I dont think its going to dissapoint.

5/5. This episode was amazing, I loved the Elle/Claire scenes. That scene in the plane was pretty cool laugh.gif

Angela's "Make Mommy proud," was creepy

That was awesome! when he waved his finger and the door went flying off, it kind of reminded me of Gene Grey in X3 , I found myself rooting for Sylar again. I was kind of let down when he got owned by Mohinder but, I knew he couldn't mess with Arther.

This episode was pretty good, not as heavy as the others; but still very good.
