So the translation is "You will be what I am"...but what do you guys think that means thematically in terms of the episode? Like why did they choose that to be the title of this episode?
lovesdistortion
I think it all relates to Arthur's vision of the world and how he wants everyone to be. He seemed so convinced that the future Peter saw wasn't going to happen, that his way was right. I think he is the key to everyting right now.
RubberDucky
perhaps it is that Sylar is to become like Arthur - someone with delusion of grandeur
spiderfrommars
I think it refers to Arthur's power, like from the perspective of those who's powers he takes. He becomes what they are.
Alordo
Or as Ducky has started in another thread, that Arthur's ability isn't natural but formula driven. And for Peter to get powers again, he will also have to inject himself.
RubberDucky
lets combine the thinking here with the comics - the current comic is Sum Quod Sum which means "to be and to be" now when you think of that in context of Eris Quod Sum meaning "you will be what I am".

So Elle was the focus of the comic and we saw that she was continuing to be what she was before and now we see that Hiro is being helped by Usutu to be what he is. This also goes for other characters like Sylar possibly becoming who Arthur is.

so could this alude that Peter even though Arthur thinks that he took his powers, that he will continue to be and to be? We know that it was Sylar that helped him fall, but perhaps he still has his powers after all

How about the fact that Matt's powers seem to have evolved closer to that of his father's ability? I know it was such a small plot point but still... I think it deserves some mention in the scheme of the title.
SuperT
I think it's clear - The children are becoming their parents.

After Peter gets thrown out the window Gabriel says something like "he's just going to keep fighting you know..." and Arthur says "I wouldn't expect anything less of a Petrelli."

Interestingly enough, "Eram quod es; eris quod sum." (I was what you are; you will be what I am) has a long history of being used as a grave inscription. I think the most poignant use this week is for the Parkmans. The torch has been passed...and yet, I think Matt will continue to be a better man than his father. The reversal of this for the Petrelli boys is ironic since Dad was seemingly dead and is now alive. Maybe dad needs to become more like his sons.

RubberDucky,

Sum Quod Sum means "I am what I am". Eris Quod Sum does mean "you will be what I am".

I've been giving this some thought and I want to hear your oppinions on this. "Eris quod sum" is latin and I'm pretty sure it means "I am what you will be." Now, is that about Arthur Petrelli or what?
Any ideas?
baottousai
someone mentioned in the episode recap thread or something that it means "I Am What I Am"
i'm not sure who this relates to though... I'm not good with analyzing things haha
jbs829
It might be a reference to Sylar, since he was told Angela was using him, he realized he his what he is

I dont know, i could be way off
staroc
Roughly translated it means "You'll be what I am!" Which is interesting considering, who may become whom. blink.gif

It parallels a lot of characters in the episode and I think it will come even more into to context later. Will the son always become the father? Is villainy in your blood? Elle even warned Claire if she wanted to have her life she was crazy.

"I am what I am" and "you will be what I am"...when you consider the warning given Hiro about the dark sun (son) rising...seems to imply that Gabriel is destined to become Arthur. Plus, Arthur mentions that he's been waiting for his son, Gabriel, for some time (interrupting the beat-down of Gabe by Mohinder).

This is my take on it.

It could refer to powers, so far this season has been a big game of Tag with powers. Powers being, lost, gained, transfered or some other transition in just about every episode. I don't think the episode title refers directly to powers since all we had was Maya losing her powerand and Elle losing control of powers. I think the title refers more to who is fighting for who. 'You will be what I am', a villain.

I can’t remember what episode but Nathan was president and at Pinehurst giving a speech about the explosion. Could it mean that Nathan will become the leader of Pinehurst: takeover his father’s position?
