I didn't like this as much. It seemed odd and only kept them away from the real problem.
2xhelix
it's like they are trying to rehash the first season.
revel911
Hiro has sucked since season, it is time for him to die.
pjw2000
Yeah, especially since I can't tell the difference between him and his regular self. He's been a mental child all season, now there's just a reason for it.

Eh, it's a set-up...his dad's "coming back" so it works that he's now the same age mentally that he was physically when pops handed over a baby to HRG...

Really! I think it was a good plot line for him to become 10 again to show he is still innocent and isn't going to become evil or a "villian". But the writers aren't going to keep it up for long so chill like an ice cube

I agree - I thought it was pretty funny too. smile.gif

Yeah - I actually missed a bit of the scene with them at the bowling alley (I guess our local NBC station was having technical difficulties)... and I didn't even care. That's how bored I have gotten with Hiro's storyline.

When Hiro announced that he was 10, my husband's reaction was, "yeah, that's right - because Hiro's problem is that he's not CHILDISH ENOUGH." dry.gif

Lame.
Xodus
While I thought Hiro's stuff was funny, it's the same old, same old with him.

Whenever he gets headed in the right direction a mission he gets thrown off course. Hiro and Ando get conned by a stripper in Vegas, they send him th feudal Japan for half a season, etc.

It's time for them to let him grow up.
spiderfrommars
Worth a chuckle because there wasn't much of a difference, however, it shouldn't have lasted more than, say, 5 minutes of the episode...

also, what was up with that weird jump ando took before arthur TK'ed him?
themightytruk
laugh.gif It made for some pretty funny moments. Waffles, Ando teaching Hiro his power, pranking, comic book references. It was nice to get a further glimpse into the person Hiro used to be, way before he made his progress to being a real hero. But I do agree that it could get a bit old if Hiro stays like this a bit longer. Wonder what'll put Hiro back in the right mental state. Was a bit of an unusual choice by Arthur for dealing with Hiro. Guess he's got a bit of creativity with his powers. Not just using the same old trick. Perhaps Arthur still has eventual plans to manipulate Hiro.

In all honestly, I wish they would mature Hiro and turn him into the man we saw in the future clips in Season 1.

Me too.
BlastOff
I don't necessarily want future Hiro but it would be nice to see him grow up a little. I understand the need for one character to be a true innocent and believe in what's right but making him 10 is just silly. I like that Hiro and Ando have the funny moments and the show does need that because no one else is even close to funny on this show. I just don't think they need to go to ridiculous lengths to make their story humorous.

Because that would leave Hiro and Ando stuck in Africa with no Usutu and no way to get back.

Arthur could have transported them after acquiring Hiro's power. Actually, that's what I assumed Arthur did, because at first I did believe that Arthur took Hiro's power... but then during the scenes in the bowling alley, Hiro still... had... it... mad.gif

Regardless of that though, I thought the Hiro scenes were hilarious.

why would arthur care?

He cut off Usutu's freaking head...I don't think he would flinch at leaving two guys in the desert in return for teleportation and time stopping

EDIT: wait he already has hiro's powers lol...

and usutus..

so why the heck did he go to africa in the first place? to give hiro a hug and make him 10? He cut off a guys head for that?
Trayton
He killed Usutu to keep him from telling the future and keeping ppl a step ahead of him and as for Hiro, he was regressing his mind mentally when the eclipse caught his eye. He stopped and left Hiro at 10 instead of regressing him to a baby as he probably planned.
Sharpshoota34
I thought that Arthur was in the process of erasing Hiro's memory, and since he got sidetracked because of the eclipse drawing, he had erased the memories up to that year.
DoctorClaude
Hiro's always gotten the short straw of the storylines. It's a sad truth.

i share the same sentiment. hiro must die! quite disappointing, the best they could do is turm him 10 y/o? sheesh

Remember the Hiro that lost Charlie and his father? The one who was forced to learn the harsh lesson that sometimes, not even god-like powers can stop the natural order of things? Or the one who realised that sometimes you have to 'cut out your own heart' in order to do what needs to be done and then proceeded to stab Sylar?

I miss that Hiro.

This is all a setup for the moment in 3.12 when Hiro and Claire go back to when Kaito handed baby Claire to HRG on the rooftop, you'll see. Hiro was 10 at the time, so when he (finally) meets Claire and hears her story, plus all that stuff about Kaito hiding the Catalyst away in her blood, that particular memory'll come back to him (if he still hasn't recovered his full memory during the two-parter) and we'll get to witness it firsthand.

Have faith.
ammomruoy
did Hiro know Ando at 10?

i thought they met through work
Rad
I thought he figured out his power way too quickly. Ando jsut told him to close his eyes and make his cheeks wobble..really? Thats all it takes to freeze time, then he starts teleporting back and forth with ease. Maybe it's the whole child-like innocence and you really believe you can do anything, but I remember him trying really hard to do these things in Season 1.
Kuda21
Just a thought...

If Hiro and Ando somehow made their way to wherever Matt Parkman is, couldn't he use his powers to basically fix Hiro's brain. I mean, if the guy can lock his dad inside his own mind, pull other people in to his mind (Daphne), don't you think its possible that he could "release" regular Hiro from his ten year old mind?

I wondered that also. Maybe it was Usutu or Isaac could have written more of them than we knew about.

The problem I have with him being 10 is they have to start all over, and are way out of the loop of what's going on.

Hiro is still one of my favorite characters, and I'm glad Arther didn't kill him.

Arthur shouldn't care, but the writers of the show do. What the heck would they do if Hiro were stuck in Africa powerless? lol

Sorry not going to happen.

I mean jesus just look at the way hiro looks,he is effeminate and not studly, the fact is he is not fit to be a protagonist type character. His character was meant to be played as comic relief but he became so popular, it causes this kind of problem.

That and you can only have the spotlight on one heroe at a time.

Arthur went there to follow up on Hiro's assignment. Hiro's assignment was to kill Usutu because he was a precog. Remember, Hiro "joined" pinehearst. Arthur finished the job himself and then decided to wipe Hiro - could have (and maybe should have) just killed him. I keep hoping that Hiro will finally turn into FHiro...but it sure ain't happening fast and I wonder if it will happen at all...
Kez
My guess as to why Arthur didn't kill Hiro is because Kaito hid the catalyst and Arthur perhaps thinks there is a chance Hiro may be of some value some day, or that he is the catalyst. Arthur probably scanned Hiro's mind in case Kaito told him about the catalyst, but found nothing, and then was distracted by the paintings.

Osana najimi or childhood friends so tospeak.

I find it funny that Hiro younger Hiro is a skeptic while older Hiro is a believer.

I know that come the end of the volume, Hiro's memory will no doubt be restored, but I'd actually prefer him to remain the way he is... I can accept his lack of maturity and development far easier when he's (mentally) 10 years old, and it gives the writers a chance to reboot the character in some way. I just hope that if he is restored to his normal self, that something useful or significant will have come from this side-plot, because at the moment it feels like a wild comical distraction, especially placed so near to the volume finale when all of the other plot threads have come together.

That could still be done without having p_hiro having to be mentally 10. I still say lame.
Averse
I read into the scene that Arthur was stealing Hiro's memories to find out who the catalyst was. Arthur mentions later in the episode that Hiro's father hid the catalyst but didnt hide it well enough. I think Arthur stole all of Hiro's memories back until he found the memory he wanted (Hiro watching Claire being handed over?), which happened when Hiro was 10. As soon as he had that, he had no further need of Hiro and let him go, at which point the painting caught his eye because of the importance of what it signals to come. It fits with Arthur's initial power as being a "vampire" who steals powers (and other brain related things such as memories, apparantly).

Harsh much? Pretty sure females can be very effeminate, and pretty sure there have been many female heroes in history. 'Studliness' barely has anything to do with someones ability to be the protagonist of a story. I think you need to open your mind up a little bit and accept that heroism isn't always about being the tall, strong, musclebound knight in shining armour who defeats dragons and rescues the princess. In fact, Heroes is supposed to be about the ordinary people like Hiro achieving the extraordinary, with and without abilities; the office worker bored with his job, the single mother trying to support her family, the school student dealing with being a teenager and the male nurse trying to deal with his family.

Reminded me a bit of the Greatest American Hero episode "Train of Thought" wher eRalph stops a train with his head and loses his memory up to right before he met Maxwell and gets the suit. So Bill and Pam have to convince him the suit gives him super powers. The fun thing is he is BETTER at it then when he had all his memories. LOL

Arthur got distracted pure and simple, if you notice he was coming back to finish the job as Ando told hero to teleport quickly. Arthur is walking towards them very angry looking.

As for the 10 year old thing..meh is not great but it can be used quite effectively if done right. Hiro as a child of 10 can be manipulated very easy, not to mention Children naturally rebel, and so Hiro could become corrupted innocence as im sure any 10 year old with the power to control Time and Space will do no wrong....yeah right :-P

he could also go back in time to see Dinosaurs (that's what I would do at 10 with that power) and then BAM, step on a butterfly and wipe out the whole human race!

Hiro was dispatched to Africa by Arthur to kill Utsutu but Arthur found out that Utsutu was instead helping Hiro so he showed up and killed Utsutu himself. The mindwipe was just Arthur being ironic, it's not like he actually ever saw Hiro as any kind of a threat.
