were they fireproof and electrical proof?

well i thought they should have burn marks and little shred holes in them. if his shirts were singed and all gone, at least his pants had at least some tattering.

i hope i'm not the only one who caught that.

That was your only problem with that scene or Elle's power? The better question is how does electricity fly through the air and not just go into the ground like normal... Electricity finds the shortest path to ground, meaning Elle should be able to shock somebody touching her, but not shoot lightning across the room...
RiddlerHanjinome
The way it looked to me is that she was targeting his torso. Problem solved.
Trayton
its all static electricity. happy.gif

maybe he was wearing silk shirts and denim jeans?

whatever it was it had to be really hard to move in. it looked like he was on stilts the way he propped himself back up after falling forward when his shirt was blown off.
shader2099
It was the same phenomenon as when Daphne ran from the nuclear explosion. The back of her jacket and shirt are burned all to h*** but there's not a mark on her jeans. Or maybe she stopped by The Gap on the way.
Thief
The same thing always happens with DragonBall Z, even though Goku's pants and shirt are clearly the same material. My guess would go along that Elle shot him in the chest most of the time.
Glorfindel
Heh, yes, I noticed that too: Asbetos, maybe?

My boyfriend said to me: "If this was on HBO he'd have ended up completely naked". I've never wanted it to air on HBO so much...

The electricity went to ground, through Sylar. Electricity often arcs. It goes to the ground, in order to complete a circuit, and theoretically, it would travel through the ground, back to Elle. The more power, the father it wil arc. She can power a small city, I'm sure she has no problem throwing an arc across the room.

lol, girls can be as perverted as boys! LOL tongue.gif But they won't show that, stop dreaming ladies! tongue.gif Or, well, ok, you can dream!

But that's the thing, they won't show that, so the fabric of his pants doesn't matter. I guess you may call it a plot hole, thought! lol tongue.gif

As for the electricity thing and all, it's simply that Elle has control over its movement. With enought power, she could create a thunder going from her body to the sky if she wanted to, which would of course be different than laws of physics. That's just how her power work. Never assume that a power would follow some law of physics, or you're sure to find plot-holes anywhere! tongue.gif

He gets his trousers from the same shop as Bruce Banner.
ChidyDog
or from the same place Nathan gets his PJs from Season 1 when he escaped HRG/Haitian ;-)

Yeah, but in the original japanese footage of DBZ, isn't there actual nudity that's edited out with computers by either pants or strategically placed items in the american version? I've got no idea if that's true or not, but that's what my friend who loves the show told me once.

lol you're upset by this, yet you're watching a show where a girl can create lightning, we've met two guys that can fly, and another can hear thoughts.

lol

For those of you having sexy daydreams about his pants coming off...

You did see what all that electricity did to his face and skin on his torso, right?

I can't imagine that being terribly flattering (nor comfortable) on lower regions...

That is likely true, though I haven't watched the American version.
That said, the nudity in the original Dragon Ball Anime and in the manga is actually pretty limited: a few naked kids running around (like when Goku transformed from his 'monster' form back into a little kid), or Bulma flashing people to get her way. By the time DBZ started (when Goku is grown up) the nudity was pretty much gone. In a couple of fights where Goku would have lost his pants, even in the originals he managed to keep strategically covered. Of course, his underclothes are made of some outrageously heavy metal-like stuff -- so he has that going for him.

They're called censorship pants. On the street they're known as "Those fragging awful pants that won't come off!" I think the Hulk has a pair like them. Apparently they come in purple and black.

There is a difference between an arch, and a shot across the room... I am not saying I have an issue with it, or even Sylar pants being bought at Super-Walmart, I'm just saying enjoy the story becase if a small thing like that scene bothers you, there are a lot more things that are bigger that should... Its fantasy/fiction, no need to explain the physics to death, just watch and enjoy...

It's a freaking TV show for crying out loud! It's called suspension of disbelief.

But it could be called fan service...

So would similar shots of Kristen Bell. But I'm not complaining, am I? biggrin.gif (Although I'm only 13, and if that was so, I wouldn't have seen Heroes in the first place) ohmy.gif

Heroes is a M rated show, not R. they didn't fry his pants because nobody wants to see Gabriel's **** tongue.gif lol
spiderfrommars
They didn't fry his pants off because it was network tv. Chances are they would have filmed from behind or with strategically placed objects on cable or above.

Then again, they did have a side boob earlier...
Raekon
His pants would had definately get destroyed since you even see him turning in like small pieces in the one scene in which she is giving him the full force. After that scene you see his body pieces "moving together" again through claires ability and the pants are "healing" with the rest of the body. tongue.gif
Only the poor T-Shirt "didn't make it" awwww. sad.gif
mattbonner
claire survived a nuclear explosion with her clothing intact

just as a heads up, we're now on the second page of a topic dedicated to pants...

did anyone else think that the actual scene in which he got hit full force looked like the scene in the watchmen trailer of Doctor Manhattan becoming Doctor Manhattan?

First thing that came out of my head when I saw that scene. It may as well be a homage to the upcoming Watchmen movie, I'm sure some guys working on Heroes are fans.

It was an awesome scene, btw.

Are you sure no one wants to?
Renrut
The frequent jolts of electricity made him lose control of his bladder. His pants were too wet to burn off.

Dear God.. why are we on Page 2 of a thread about Sylar's pants?

It's not just about Sylar's pants..it's about Sylar's pants coming off his body.

Elle's electricity is always aimed and hitting his torso. Thus his shirt is burned off but his pants manage to stay on. If Elle wanted to be really cruel she would have zapped him below the waiste rolleyes.gif

She didn't do that because even at that moment when she hated him... she subconsiously didn't want to do any damage.

I think its kinda like a light saber. (lol I know tongue.gif ) She sends out a stream of lightning and it loops back to her and she provides her own ground for her power. This would mean that it would fry his shirt passing throught his torso and back out to her, but not through his legs to the ground.

This would also mean that she would be able to fry someone not touching the ground (and not seeing an arch to that ground) like we have seen her do.

Exactly. Then how are we supposed to witness the future cuteness of lil'Noah? (In all seriousness, I know regeneration would heal that.)

I'm sorry I don't speak Star Wars. Could you explain that in simple physics (or BSG or Harry Potter, whateve)?
