were they fireproof and electrical proof?
well i thought they should have burn marks and little shred holes in them. if his shirts were singed and all gone, at least his pants had at least some tattering.
i hope i'm not the only one who caught that.

That was your only problem with that scene or Elle's power? The better question is how does electricity fly through the air and not just go into the ground like normal... Electricity finds the shortest path to ground, meaning Elle should be able to shock somebody touching her, but not shoot lightning across the room...

its all static electricity.

maybe he was wearing silk shirts and denim jeans?
whatever it was it had to be really hard to move in. it looked like he was on stilts the way he propped himself back up after falling forward when his shirt was blown off.

It was the same phenomenon as when Daphne ran from the nuclear explosion. The back of her jacket and shirt are burned all to h*** but
there's not a mark on her jeans. Or maybe she stopped by The Gap on the way.

The same thing always happens with DragonBall Z, even though Goku's pants and shirt are clearly the same material. My guess would go along that Elle shot him in the chest most of the time.

The electricity went to ground, through Sylar. Electricity often arcs. It goes to the ground, in order to complete a circuit, and theoretically, it would travel through the ground, back to Elle. The more power, the father it wil arc. She can power a small city, I'm sure she has no problem throwing an arc across the room.

lol, girls can be as perverted as boys! LOL

But they won't show that, stop dreaming ladies!

Or, well, ok, you can dream!
But that's the thing, they won't show that, so the fabric of his pants doesn't matter. I guess you may call it a plot hole, thought! lol

As for the electricity thing and all, it's simply that Elle has control over its movement. With enought power, she could create a thunder going from her body to the sky if she wanted to, which would of course be different than laws of physics. That's just how her power work. Never assume that a power would follow some law of physics, or you're sure to find plot-holes anywhere!

Yeah, but in the original japanese footage of DBZ, isn't there actual nudity that's edited out with computers by either pants or strategically placed items in the american version? I've got no idea if that's true or not, but that's what my friend who loves the show told me once.

That is likely true, though I haven't watched the American version.
That said, the nudity in the original Dragon Ball Anime and in the manga is actually pretty limited: a few naked kids running around (like when Goku transformed from his 'monster' form back into a little kid), or Bulma flashing people to get her way. By the time DBZ started (when Goku is grown up) the nudity was pretty much gone. In a couple of fights where Goku would have lost his pants, even in the originals he managed to keep strategically covered. Of course, his underclothes are made of some outrageously heavy metal-like stuff -- so he has that going for him.

There is a difference between an arch, and a shot across the room... I am not saying I have an issue with it, or even Sylar pants being bought at Super-Walmart, I'm just saying enjoy the story becase if a small thing like that scene bothers you, there are a lot more things that are bigger that should... Its fantasy/fiction, no need to explain the physics to death, just watch and enjoy...

They didn't fry his pants off because it was network tv. Chances are they would have filmed from behind or with strategically placed objects on cable or above.
Then again, they did have a side boob earlier...

His pants would had definately get destroyed since you even see him turning in like small pieces in the one scene in which she is giving him the full force. After that scene you see his body pieces "moving together" again through claires ability and the pants are "healing" with the rest of the body.

Only the poor T-Shirt "didn't make it" awwww.

First thing that came out of my head when I saw that scene. It may as well be a homage to the upcoming Watchmen movie, I'm sure some guys working on Heroes are fans.

Elle's electricity is always aimed and hitting his torso. Thus his shirt is burned off but his pants manage to stay on. If Elle wanted to be really cruel she would have zapped him below the waiste

I think its kinda like a light saber. (lol I know

) She sends out a stream of lightning and it loops back to her and she provides her own ground for her power. This would mean that it would fry his shirt passing throught his torso and back out to her, but not through his legs to the ground.
This would also mean that she would be able to fry someone not touching the ground (and not seeing an arch to that ground) like we have seen her do.
