Liked the Sylar/Elle bit again (I'm NOT biased lol)
Hiro was actually funny this episode.
I love the ending of Matt's story, I did not expect that.
The Haitian rocks.

BUT THE BEST! Was the Ironman poster in the back of the "Sam's Comics" store

I can agree on all points and I was surprised that this time Hiro's story made sense rather than just being stupid.

This episode was quite well done, bravo to the writing and directing team... I can't wait for part 2 to see what happens and who gets there power's back (hoping Peter is one of them.)

I dont know why, but this is the first episode this season feels like it brought back the suspence, and drama and characterization from the first season...

i absolutely loved it

I forgot to mention the almost nakedness of Mohinder.. that's a plus smile.gif

I really liked this episode, even though it only felt like half of one, but that's probably because it's a two-parter (d'uh!), so it's Ok. The final scene with Daphne and Matt made it for me, it was really, really surprising.

I enjoyed the dark overtones of this episode, Very gritty feel to it

I wanted to point out that though even far fetched Daphne explaining that seconds seems like hours to her helps give a small amount of validity to her " I love you statement" which I think in the beginning of this episode it showed she said w/o fully thinking it through.

I really am liking the story better this season. I wish the show was two hours or an hour and a half. It always seems to just get rolling and it's suddenly over.

The Sylar/Elle scenes are once again a great highlight this week. Loved her pushing him to be his own man and the hilariousness that ensued.

"Where the hell is that guy?"

Because they showed Sylar screaming in the preview for Eclipse Part One, I had worried something particularly bad might happen. Luckily it just turned out to be a funny moment with Elle reseting his arm...then the cliffhanger happened just as my relief set in.

****..

You do not want to kill Elle, Noah. Sylar will drag you into his own personal hell, buddy.

Maybe that's what it'll take to get the old Sylar back.

I loved the episode. I loved everything it set up (quite a few jaw-droppers), I loved the darker tones, and I love Seth Green. *crosses fingers* Maybe he'll pop up for a few more seconds of Part II? Pretty please?

I thought I would post in this thread to share my love of this episode. It really was well done, not only was there great comic relief, but the suspense and the pure genious of making Daphne a cripple in her off time was fantastic. I thought that seeing how much the characters rely on their powers was fantastic and even seeing Claire and HRG learn a couple of lessons about each other was even more rewarding. Even thought the episode had a tough act to follow up with Episode 9 being such a success, it really thrived and surpassed my expectations. I also enjoyed the cameos by Seth Green and Breckin Meyer, always good to see new faces on the screen.

Overall I would say this episode was fantastic and would implore you Heroes writers to keep it up.

This is one of my favorite episodes this season!

- Hiro sort of turning back to his old self
- An explanation of Daphne's past and why her ability is important
- Peter & Nathan argument!
- Elle/Sylar biggrin.gif
- Noah being BAMF

The Sylar and Elle scenes were awesome (but too little of their craziness)-- I really loved their whole Bonnie and Clyde dynamic being set up there. LOL @ Elle's prank on Sylar. Claire got a talking to for being so goddamned whiny and stupid this season by HRG! Hiro and his corn with Matt Parkman (Masi and Grunny are the two funniest guys in Heroes so throwing them together like that was just genius)! Also, the powerless Heroes were a lot funnier than I thought they'd be! TOTALLY ****** HILARIOUS when Matt tried to use his powers and Daphne's dad looks at him like he's special (as in special ******). smile.gif

They didn't do too much explanation of the bombshells (Sylar being a Petrelli, how do the powers work, what's Arthur's master plan, etc) they gave us earlier this season but this episode was so entertaining that I didn't mind.

This episode is my favourite of the season thus far...

And it's gone a long way in reaffirming something I've believed since Season One:

Don't EVER mess with Noah Bennet.

True that. Seriously, Claire will never die and that's probably because of HRG.

I'm pretty sure that HRG was setting his sights on killing Sylar, not Elle, since he's been trying to find a way to kill Sylar the last few episodes but has had difficulty since Sylar could regenerate. Without his powers, Sylar is finally vulnerable again for HRG to try to take him out himself.

Yeah but you know how these things usually work out in movies/TV.

They catch the sight, "oh no! look out!", pushes the other person to the side and ends up getting shot.

Oh definitely, and Zach Quinto definitely isn't getting killed off the show, so if anyone gets shot there, it's probably Elle. But as far as his intent, I don't think there's much question which one of the two that HRG is attempting to shoot.

What a perfect episode! I loved it! Action, characterization, plot advancement, humor, and a very cool symmetry woven through the whole thing.

The symmetry between Elle and Sylar is phenomenal. Elle spent years being a company girl, only to have her father murdered, after trying to impress him and win some real affection from him at every turn. Now that Sylar's found his father, he's trying to do the exact same thing.

Loved the take off of Nathan and Peter. And loved the splashdown later. They do make pretty great brothers. Their fight in the jungle was fantastic. My compliments to the writers, because a good deal of why that was an awesome scene should be attributed to what the actors were given to work with.

Interesting how up until now Mohinder's scaly transformation completely avoided his gorgeous face. ;-) This is a Hollywood kind of disease mutation, keeping you pretty where people see you most for as long as possible. Oh, and apparently, the mutation also completely strips you of what acting ability you previously had. Because his "Why don't you have the catalyst! You said you were going to cure me!" was pretty awful.

The eclipse is such a wonderful visual! I always thought they didn't do enough with it when the series started. This is a really beautiful episode, shot in that daylight darkness, with an almost blue hue over everything. Very pretty.

"Aren't you dead?" Hiro's scene with Matt, Daphne, and Ando was adorable, with Hiro thinking in Japanese (as HRG did the last time Claire got shot) and his synchronization with Turtle's head bobbing. I also liked the look Matt and Daphne gave the door when Ando knocked. Very cute. However, I'd also like to renew my complaint that I don't believe Matt and Daphne's realtionship at all, not at this point in the game. And if Matt is going to continue this relationship with her, he's going to need a good chiropractor. He has to bend at the waist to look her in the eye, and she's in four inch heels!

I'm pretty confused by Elle's motivation now... First she saves Gabriel's life and wants to keep him sweet, then she tries to kill him--twice--gets gooey over him, and now is back to being a take-what-I-want brat, trying to make Sylar into a killer again? ...wha?

Seth Green and Breckin Meyer were perfect. Loved their faces when they saw Hiro and Ando in their comic book store in Lawrence, Kansas, and their short guest appearances were absolutely lovely! I'm looking forward to the part they have to play in the conclusion of this delicious two-parter. I love these two actors.

A very long time ago, when I first started writing these episode reviews, I wrote that I try to be professional with my reviews and not just sit and drool over the pretty actors I see on screen. There's more to an episode than just the boys. I also mentioned that the one actor on this show who makes me want to break the rules and go gaga during my reviews is Zachary Quinto. I state again for the record that I think he's beautiful, the kiss with Elle was (sorry, fangurl moment) hot, and now I'm going to go back to being mature about things. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Oh, poor Daphne. What does she have? Cerebral palsy? CMT? MS? ALS? Spastic paraplegia? No wonder she was freaked out by Arthur's threat to take her power away. She doesn't go back to being normal, she goes back to a perceived confinement... After gaining speed, I'm sure this must feel like she's chained in a single spot. I actually love the fact that Matt thought he'd fallen in love with the Hare, but he'd actually fallen for the Tortoise. Cute.

Bits and Pieces:
  • Claire's wig continues to bother me. Please let her have the same haircut as Hayden does now!
  • I love Angela's admission to thinking of locking Claire up.
  • Fabulous line: "My absence does not give you license to act like a brat!"
  • Eww... Mohinder cocoons himself? ...And then comes out normal? That was very Ace-Ventura-coming-out-of-the-rhino. Still, I don't understand why the eclipse affected synthetic powers.
  • Everyone was interesting as they realized their powers were gone. The look on their face every time was fantastic. Especially Matt, but I also loved Sylar's confusion after his little finger twitch.
  • "This is part of the Hero's Quest! Can you triumph without powers? The corn will keep on coming!" Funny, funny, funny, fabulous episode. How I adore thee!
  • Oh, Nathan, your French... c'est terrible. But I'm excited for Peter and the Haitian's new task: rescue Peter's brother, and stop the Haitian's. Again, a very symmetrical episode.
Okay, off to work,
GG

Of course.

He's not the kind of man to waste an opportunity.

He'll kill whoever he perceives to be a threat to Claire.

I think he is trying to line them to finish both with one bullet.

Another great installment. I'd tell the writers to "do it again", just like Hiro told Matt, if I had them right here with me. The episode opens with Arthur sending Sylar and Elle away to capture Claire the Catalyst and then we see Doyle and Danny Pine once more.

The montage with everyone losing their abilities and the drawings being fulfilled was pure genius. Peter and Nathan falling into the water in Haiti reminded me a lot of the Order 66 scene in Star Wars Episode III when everyone starts to lose.

We learned a lot about Daphne in this episode and the subsequent graphic novel. A little Daphne backstory is always nice. I felt really sorry for her when I realized what was happening (knew about the crutches while browsing 9th last night, but didn't know the circumstances of her having to use them). I liked all the Haiti and Kansas scenes.

Once again Masi Oka has proved that he can play a 10-year old without losing his touch. The corn throwing, the turtle the comics, everything was great.

Seeing the Haitian again in the present timeline was great too. He's one of my favorite characters and I liked his role in the episode. Introducing a brother we've just heard of for the first time and hiding from him with Peter while Nathan took the fall.

Regarding the Elle/Sylar/Claire/Noah scene, I liked it when Elle discovers her ability is gone and looks at her hand with an expression of confusion on her face, which is exactly what happens with Sylar seconds later.

Last but not least, we got what's probably the most suspenseful cliffhanger of the season. After seeing Noah leaving his house and not expecting him to appear in the episode anymore, he pops out with a sniper aiming for Sylar and Elle.

Keep it up, writers. Keep it up.

There are a lot of things that were awesome in this episode. First thing I noticed was the difference in the directing and cinematography, it really added to the suspense and the brilliance of the episode. The shaky camera when HRG was carrying Claire and the multiple frame sequences of the Arthur's drawings and how their prophecy is slowly affecting the characters, those were some very good stuff. Kudos.

Daphne is officially a favorite, now that I know exactly who she is (just like Matt said). I love the twist in her story.
The Sylar/Elle fight scene with Noah was great and everything else with the pairing was just as good.

Overall, great episode. I think the writing just keeps getting better, I don't know how they're doing it, it's just so much more compelling than the previous episodes.
Neuromancer
I found that the previous seasons of Heroes started off quite slowly and then picked up pace towards the end. Volume 1 was quite gradual and volume 2 was a steep curve because of the strike. After the relatively slow Villains episode the pedal is being put to the floor now as Volume 3 draws to a close with It's Coming and now The Eclipse. It's a shame they couldn't have put part 1 and 2 back to back in a special double episode but it does mean that we have some good cliff hangers to end the episode with.

I think the writing for this episode was clever in a subtle way, you can see the little tensions starting to develop in the Heroes that have lost their powers, over reacting and at each others throats. They're almost like kids having their favorite toys taken away in some cases, then we have 10 year old Hiro who seems to be handling it pretty well biggrin.gif

I liked the effect of the eclipse and although I found it a little hard to see some things* it fitted very well with the themes and visual style of this season. All those dark blues might be a huge contrast to the explosive finale in War.

I loved the twist in Daphne's story, it filled out her character which I think she needed. It explains why she sees her power as a gift when others might see a power as a curse, she zips around everywhere and I'm sure she uses her power more than any other Hero on the show.

Can't wait for part 2!

* [The Darkness] I noticed a few other people mention this, I think it might be because I have an LCD TV. Anyone else experience the same thing with an LCD TV?
