I may have missed something but in one of the early S.3 episodes, didn't we learn that Daphne had a trophy she won in a race from before she had her powers? How is this now possible? Again I may have missed something here...

Simple.. the answer is in last week's Graphic Novel.
The medal (not a trophy) was her mother's. Her mother won those medals and everyone sorta expected Daph to be like her mom. They mean all the more to her because her mom passed away from cancer and her last words to her mother are the ones she regret.

Being that they were her Mom's medals explains even more why she would want them back as it is obvious her mother passed away.
