I have to question the writers on this one. A worldwide total solar eclipse that lasted, im gonna guess around 6 or 7 hours, is a bit far fetched, especially since theyve turned to the whole scientific stand on everything. I just think that Mo would have noticed that it was a bit stranged, being a scientist and all

I also loved that the sun had to be completley uncovered. Like the moon covering 5% was still enough to cancel the powers.

worldwide?
the only places we were shown were america and haiti, weren't they?

i do get your point about the length though - and yeah, i thought it was stupid that claire only healed when the whole of the sun was revealed

Considering the eclipse in the pilot was seen in both America and Japan, it's not too far of a stretch to believe it's "worldwide" this time as well. And considering we go decades between full solar eclipses IRL, you have to suspend a lot of disbelief here.

I vote for these eclipses to be "not occurring naturally".

I was about to post that I didnt think the Eclipses were natural, but you beat me too it. Obviously the show is going to get a whole lot deeper as the seasons move on, so the idea that a greater power is at hand is not out of the scope.

Really? Is that obvious? Judging by the way each subsequent season has been more and more superficial I have a hard time agreeing with you.

Well, either that, or this is a world where: a natural or artificial genetic predispostion with a strong heritable component can manifest itself in ways which include#: enabling the human body to create vortexes, fire, electrical charge, ice, magnetic fields, telekinetic fields, atomic radiation, atomic restructuring, invisibility, memory-wiping fields, poison, flight and superspeed; enabling the mind to read other minds, control other minds, locate people, understand intuitively, dream the future, see the future, project illusions; it enables people to be able to restructure their own DNA and thereby instantly confer on themselves the associated power; it enables one to travel enywhere in space or time and to heal spontaneously,..

AND...

It's a world where worldwide, day-long solar eclipses occur every year.

The "moon" is really a spaceship piloted by members of an intergalactic Company, emitting power-cancelling beams.

Just had to throw that out there... biggrin.gif

We'll call them... Haitian beams!

Again...I don't need the eclipse to be 'scientifically accurate'. Really.

This is a story we're being told. An exciting adventure told about a bunch of people trying to deal with outrageous circumstances. Yes, they're bending 'science' until it breaks.

All the science I need is the knowledge that it's an eclipse. If they were bringing in aliens, or magic wands or artifacts, I would be annoyed, because that would be stepping out of the 'real world' framework.

An 'all day eclipse' is just not something we should be getting worked up about.

I can hear it now..."BUT SCIENCE! THEY SAID IT WAS BASED IN SCIENCE!"

Yes. And it is. LOOSELY.

As I've said since first season, it can't be based in hard science, because it's a show about people flying around, and teleporting, yadda yadda. It's not Law and Order, or Rescue 911 or whatever.

Relax, stop prying into it, and enjoy...please?
