I agree - I think Peter saving Nathan is actually very believable and legitimate, very in sync with Peter's character. Puppy & all, like what Charles Deveaux said, that's probably the redeeming nature of Peter- that he's able to love unconditionally.
I totally said Peter's lines together with him when he told Nathan he loved him 8D it was really very predictable. But I think he does genuinely love Nathan, despite everything; like Claire, who still loves HRG despite all the cupcakes HRG put her through.
Yeah, I'm not saying any of those things (His love for Nathan being predictable and unconditional) are bad, they are very true to Peter. I'm just commenting on Peter as a person, not as he is written.
Of course he should have saved his brother, that isn't what makes him Peter. What makes him Peter is that Nathan just assaulted him with a led pipe for 5 minutes, and it got to the point where it looked like he was going to give him one hell of a black eye with the thing (And made Peter cry out all tearfully "NATHAN NOOOO") and the only thing that stopped the fight was a huge fiery explosion.. after which Peter saves the brother who had just spent the day insulting and battering him,and he doesn't speak up for himself at ALL even when Nathan acts like a tool yelling "Why did you save me!". He just repeats again "Because you are my brother and I love you".
With Nathan acting like such a jackass, I'm just rooting for Peter to have a moment where he speaks up that does NOT end with the two of them punching each other or angrily flying away.
